When you,

Assuming,

Meditate,

And of course most of the time when we meditate,

It isn't because we are being drawn into a stillness for the purpose of a certain unspeakable kind of pleasure,

But we meditate because we want to know something about a world within ourselves that is not subject to the vagaries,

The whims,

And the whims of this world,

Meaning of thoughts and feelings and all of the things that are associated with them.

So we know that when we meditate,

If we're meditating properly,

Part of the meditative process is the relationship that we have between a part of our self that is still and that sees movement,

And that by the very fact that we're aware of the movement of thoughts and feelings within ourselves means that what is aware of those thoughts and feelings is in fact still and timeless relative to their appearance.

We know that,

That's part of meditation,

Of an interior divided attention in which I am aware of myself and all of those qualities that I have taken to be myself as they act and move through me.

The living meditation,

The one that we speak of when we talk about conscious double attention,

Is the exact same parallel,

Only your eyes are open.

Now you sit and you are aware of yourself,

Of I,

But you are also aware of all of the movement of things around you,

All of the things that you call passing time,

When in truth whatever it is in you that labels an event is itself part of passing time.

The true I doesn't label anything,

It is authentically impersonal to the appearance of all that comes into it.

That impersonal relationship,

That meditative life in which there is a stillness and an awareness of movement doesn't mean that you are without action,

It means that action is now provided for you by the relationship between this stillness that isn't in time,

That isn't conditioned,

That acts from and knows what is loving and compassionate and it's present to the appearance of life and what it requests,

What it's asking of you.

So the meditation with eyes closed is really just a precursor to the meditation of life,

Which is to be still inwardly to all that moves outwardly and to understand they are not different things,

They are two expressions of the same nature.
