This meditation is designed to form a bridge between your waking and sleeping mind.
It's an invitation to transition gently from the activities of your day into a deep,
Restful sleep.
Make any adjustments you need to find a comfortable position,
Ideally lying on your back with your arms resting at your side.
Take a deep breath in and let it go.
Relax your shoulders and neck.
Release the muscles in your face and jaw.
Soften your forehead and the space between your eyebrows.
Now give yourself a moment to think.
Anything that was on your mind before you came to this meditation,
Let it hold space in your mind for a moment.
Now visualise yourself collecting these thoughts.
Each thought becomes a small glowing ball of light as you pluck it from your mind.
Imagine placing these glowing lights into a pouch made of soft,
Beautiful material,
Velvet or silk.
Feel your mind slowing down as you store your little light thoughts inside this pouch.
Take the pouch filled with your thoughts with you into this visualisation.
Imagine you are sitting on soft green grass and before you is a beautiful lake.
You sit on the edge of the lake and watch sunlight dance on the still surface.
The pouch with your little lights of thoughts is laying on your lap.
Take it now and feel the softness of the fabric.
Take a deep breath in and as you exhale drop the pouch into the water.
Watch as the fabric disappears beneath the surface along with your thoughts.
The ripples of water roll out and out.
They gradually fade away and the surface becomes still once more.
Feel the lightness of your mind as you let go of all you do not need right now.
Feel the stillness of your body and mind like the stillness of the lake.
Notice that your thoughts only disturbed the surface layer of water.
Beneath in the deep calm there is constant stillness.
The same stillness exists in you beneath your thoughts.
You are the stillness,
Your thoughts merely the ripples on the surface of your mind.
Return to your breath.
Inhale deeply and exhale completely.
Feel the weight of your body sinking into the surface beneath you.
Feel the heaviness of your legs,
Your arms,
Your head,
Your whole body.
You are completely relaxed and ready for deep rest.
Enjoy the sensation of entering into a sound sleep.
