This meditation reconnects you back to your breath and Earth. We don't live "on" Earth--we are a part of Earth, we are Earth breathing. Through this meditation, you connect into the heart of Earth and breathe yourself back into interconnection with all that has ever been on Earth.

Hello and welcome to this meditation.

As we enter into today's practice of meditating with Earth,

The invitation is to engage with nature in a way that is available to you.

Maybe going outside or sitting with a plant or even putting your feet on the ground or laying down,

Your back supported by the Earth.

I invite you to close your eyes or soften your gaze if that feels comfortable.

And feel your body here on the Earth.

Noticing where you touch the ground,

Where Earth supports you.

And how does it feel in your body to notice this support?

This is called the felt sense.

How it feels inside when you sense this support.

Now I invite you to begin to take a few deep breaths in and out.

And with each conscious breath,

You're breathing yourself back into your body,

Into the moment.

The here and now.

As you rest here on Earth and are held by gravity.

And maybe one more breath right here.

Just nourishing yourself in this simple contact with the Earth.

And with your breath,

I invite you to send roots down from your feet into the ground.

Feel the Earth now reaching up to your grounding cords and pulling your roots down deeper.

Deeper through the nourishing soil and the layers of minerals and rocks.

Dropping your roots all the way down to the center of the Earth.

The crystalline heart of Earth.

Wrapping these roots around the core of Earth.

And feeling this connection to the Earth Mother.

And as you rise,

You can maintain this connection.

And feel the power of all creation that rises with you,

Layer upon layer.

Feeling it rise through the bottoms of your feet,

Into your shins,

Up into your knees and thighs.

All the way up into the channel of your breath.

And as you breathe here,

You are a channel for the Earth's perceptions and her breath.

As you breathe in and out.

In and out.

You might realize that you're also being breathed by Earth.

All beings,

All plants and animals and microorganisms and humans.

We're all breathed by Earth.

We are Earth breathing.

We often think of ourselves as on Earth,

Separate from Earth.

But we are in Earth.

We are a part of Earth.

And as you're breathing,

I'd like to invite you to visualize yourself as a channel for the Earth.

A channel for Earth's perceptions and breath.

And so as we breathe in and breathe out,

We're a channel for Earth.

I invite you to follow the channel of your own breath as it rises and falls.

Connecting the inhale with the exhale.

Each molecule of breath that you receive and give out is part of Earth.

Is Earth breathing?

So how could we be separate from the ecosystem?

From nature?

We are nature.

And as you breathe in,

I invite you to connect the top of your inhale to the exhale.

Letting the breath fall naturally.

And with every breath,

We are nature.

The air that we breathe out is then taken in by the birds and pets and trees.

We are embedded into the singular matrix of air through our breath.

And so we are embedded into Earth.

We are Earth.

All the destruction.

The pain.

The grief.

And also all the creativity.

All the connection.

The bliss.

Light.

All here together.

Carried in the molecules of breath.

Perhaps notice where your breath touches you.

Your belly,

Your chest,

Your throat,

Your lips.

And Earth is always breathing.

Through plants and animals.

Rocks breathe.

The dirt breathes.

And clouds are breath in the sky.

And as you breathe,

You take in millions of argon atoms.

And as you exhale,

Those same atoms are released unchanged into the air.

So in this exhale,

These atoms distribute through every breath.

And eventually circulate throughout Earth.

We're all interconnected,

Breathing them in and out.

With this inhale now,

You breathe in the same argon atoms that were once breathed by Buddha.

By Joan of Arc.

By Gandhi.

By the dinosaurs.

By all of your ancestors.

With every breath,

You touch them.

And through time,

They touch you.

And all together,

We are creation.

Every being is part of this singular matrix.

This ancient planetary mind that connects us and shares its wisdom in every conscious breath.

And so throughout your day,

I just invite you to consider this.

This breath matters.

This breath is a microcosm imprinted with the molecules of all of life.

And if you feel lost or overwhelmed,

Just close your eyes and breathe Earth.
