Hello,

My name's Ian Tucker.

I thought I would just record a short video to introduce you to a concept that I've built into my life.

Whether it's for my own well-being or when helping others over the last 20 years or so.

So I'd like to begin with a statement of fact.

Balance is the key to a good life.

Let me just repeat that balance is the key to a good life.

And you and I sort of understand this on a physical level.

If you and I just keep running,

If we just keep jumping,

If we just keep swimming,

If we just keep shouting,

If we just keep dancing,

Sooner or later something has to give.

And he does.

And yet on an emotional or a mental level.

We don't quite embrace it so much.

I'll come back to that.

Nature gets.

The importance of balance.

If we look at the world around us,

Most things that work well in life have a degree of balance to them.

If you look at industrial or domestic machinery,

We know if we just keep it running,

It burns out.

Let's return to nature for a moment,

The four seasons.

Nature understands there's always a time to rest,

A time to grow,

A time to shine,

But then to go back to a period of sleep and to become dormant again,

To reset.

And yet emotionally and mentally,

You and I don't seem to get it quite so much.

We think we need to push on,

To push through,

To keep going,

To be relentless,

And then we'll fix it.

Let me talk to you about the first signs of recognising that perhaps your life is out of balance.

Let's look at things like worry.

Anxiety.

Uncertainty.

The world seems full of these words at the moment.

My take on this?

Personally.

Is if I experience worry or anxiety.

It's because I'm investing too much of my well-being into something that doesn't serve me or that I can't control.

I think that's really important.

Let me say that again.

If you are experiencing anxiety or worry in your life at the moment,

Then chances are you're investing too much of yourself,

Your well-being,

Into someone or something that doesn't serve you or that you're looking to control a situation.

That ultimately is out of control.

Let's just park that for a moment.

So.

.

.

Balance is the key to a good life.

A good way of recognising if we're out of balance.

Is through the experience of worry,

The emotions of anxiety,

Because we're investing too much of ourselves into something that doesn't serve us.

So it's really important to become aware.

Awareness is always the first step on any journey.

Any journey begins with an awareness of where I am.

Where I've been and where I'd like to go.

So in this moment,

If you are worried or anxious about something,

You are out of balance.

So it's really important to just pause press the pause button on that if we can't fix it straight away if it's unfixable to just rest with that just for a moment to be aware of it and at the same time begin to grow awareness of what does serve us in life,

Where we can find balance in life.

And a great way to do this is to look at the holistic model of well-being.

So I'd like you,

Whether you pause this video now or just take a mental note and do it straight after,

But this is really important.

To imagine or actually draw a circle on a page.

And within that circle,

You draw a cross.

So you now have a circle with four quarters.

And around the circle you write spiritual.

In motion.

Mental and physical.

And then you pause.

This is awareness.

This is taking your foot off the accelerator just for a moment to start to reset and remember what takes care of you in life.

Now this holistic model takes in all parts of you.

So now a very simple but profound exercise is to go around each quadrant,

Spiritual,

Emotional,

Mental,

Physical and start to write down things that maybe you've done in the past that really lift you up in that particular area,

Something that you do now.

Or something that you would like to introduce into your life.

And you start to build a template of wellness around a holistic So for physical,

It doesn't need to be over physical.

It could be a walk in nature.

It could be fresh air or natural light each day.

Spirituality doesn't mean opening books and being with something each day.

It could be embracing a period of silence,

Just five minutes a day.

And in that silence,

The craziness of the world carries on outside.

But you've developed a simple practice,

A reset to find balance.

For mental,

It could be to read something that lifts you up.

Emotional could be to really set time,

Even if it's just a phone call or a text interaction with a good friend.

You get this.

But start to piece together what it is that takes care of you in life.

And spend more time doing that.

Invest less of your well-being in things that you can't control,

In people that don't give back,

Or in things that you just find difficult to be around.

You're not giving in.

You're taking care of yourself.

You're finding balance.

Because balance is the key to a good life.

And you deserve that.

See you again soon.
