Do you take care of me?
It is now the end of your first day at school and through the window you can see that everyone apart from you has left the class.
You watch as little you packs your bag and misbuttons your coat.
Suddenly they look up and you both smile exactly the same smile.
As you walk slowly into the classroom they sit down and you take the small chair next to them.
They reach for your hand and look up into your eyes.
You will know exactly how they are feeling.
How am I?
They ask nervously.
You're fine,
You're doing great you reply warmly with a smile.
I am,
They say excitedly a picture of innocence.
Do you take care of me?
Yes I do.
I take real good care of you.
Am I happy?
They ask now a little tearful.
Yes you are.
You're very happy.
What makes me happy?
They ask smiling as a single tear rolls down their cheek.
You smile back gently as you hand them a tissue.
Little things make you happy like thinking about how lucky you are to have everything that you have in life.
Why is that important?
Well it helps you to stop worrying about the future because you have so much to be thankful for already.
Do I have all that I need to be happy?
We all do.
It's just that some people choose to concentrate on all the things they don't have but happy people understand it.
What else makes me happy?
They ask.
Well making other people smile makes you smile too and giving things to your friends or someone who needs it more than you.
Now that makes you really happy.
Well that sounds easy.
It is but lots of people forget and think being happy depends on what they can get from others.
So I just have to be kind then?
They say with a smile.
I guess so.
You don't need much more because whatever you do for others they will want to do back to you.
So yes simply being kind brings happiness every time.
It's time for little you to leave class for today.
You remain seated so as they stand you are both at eye level.
Looking into your eyes they step forward and hold you close.
Thank you they whisper for taking care of me.
You're welcome you reply and when you come into school tomorrow be sure to remember the golden rules because as our teacher said they are for life.
The golden rules.
Just for today were you honest?
Just for today did you worry about things?
Just for today were you kind to everyone that you met?
Just for today have you lost your temper and got angry with people?
Just for today did you remember what you already have in life to make you happy?
All is well.
Should I worry about what ifs or feel regret about the past?
Let anxiety prevail in case this moment doesn't last.
Or can I relax,
Feel safe and know that everything is fine and let serenity and peace guide me through every time.
