The winter solstice marks the longest night of the year and the tipping point where we fall slowly back into more light.
This is a time for quiet reflection and deep insight.
We sync our own rhythms with Mother Nature and follow her lead,
Taking this time to slow down and catch our breath.
It's as though the world sheds its skin,
The roots holding deep but the old growth falling away,
Leaving room for renewed energy to come forth.
We begin the long journey of settling into our stillness and waiting to re-emerge back into the light.
Sit comfortably,
Allow the eyes to gently fall closed.
Take three deep cleansing breaths just to move some energy around the body and settle any tension.
Let the earth's calm,
Stable energy support you.
Allow any movement to cease into stillness as you match your energy with that stability.
Allow the active energy of the mind to steady,
Becoming more passive.
Is there anything taking up too much space in your mind that you can let go of?
Any self-defeating thoughts,
Tiredness,
Doubt?
Anything that you have collected over the past few months that feels too heavy?
Offer yourself permission to let that go.
Let any old growth begin to fall away,
Remaining deeply rooted into the earth's surface.
Fall into that quiet darkness,
Stillness,
And contentment.
Let yourself be passive,
Simply observing each passing moment and then letting it go.
Let your breath be your touchstone if you find you get distracted and let it guide you back to that stillness.
Begin to sense a warming deep within the chest and a soft glow emerging from that space.
Breathing in your stillness,
Not stirring the energy but waiting peacefully within it.
Allow that glow to grow a bit brighter.
Like daybreak,
Lighting the world from a blanket of darkness.
Feel that sunrise within the self.
Re-emerge fully into your light and allow it to seep into the many layers of your mind,
Your body,
Your spirit.
Find a moment within this peaceful space,
The seat of your soul filling you up with light.
Each breath that you take fills you up and sends that light back out.
Begin to reconnect with your roots and the support of the earth beneath you.
Reconnect with the breath to reawaken your senses and bring gentle movement back into the body.
And offer a deep cleansing breath to close your meditation in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Some musings for your meditation today.
How can I use this time to find deeper reflection into myself?
What old growth can I allow to fall away and release for good?
And what is no longer serving me moving forward in my life?
Happy solstice and make it a beautiful day.
Namaste.
