Title of the talk is What to Do When Life.
.
.
Fails to add up to your best equations.
So simple question,
Does life ever fail to add up to your equation of it?
And I know the answer is,
Of course it does.
But I have some really good news and I'm going to go much deeper into this particular idea tomorrow.
You might want to at least consider the fact that it's not life itself that's confusing.
Life is not confusing.
Isn't that amazing?
What if that's true,
That life itself is not confusing?
The problem,
Of course,
Is that if life isn't confusing,
Then where is the confusion?
And the answer is it lies within the way in which we look at life.
It lies in the eyes through which we see life.
So with that,
Let's bring up the first key lesson and then we'll get into a nice story.
And we'll get on with our discovery.
Kate,
When you're ready.
Key lesson number one.
When you no longer want to look at the world through the eyes of anyone else.
You will at last know what it means to see.
When you no longer want to look at the world through the eyes of anyone else,
You will at last know what it means to see.
We're so sure we see what is true.
And we're so sure that we never question whatever it is that allows us to arrive at that point,
Which is why in this simple key lesson,
Excuse the pun,
There's more to it than meets the eye as we're going to see.
So let's get into it.
I have a story to tell you.
Some stories I like more than others.
This is a new favorite story of mine,
And you'll understand why when we get to the exposition of it.
So here's a school,
We'll say for higher math.
Spiritual math and there is an awakened master that teaches this class?
And of course,
Quite a few students have this idea that they are up to it and they enroll.
But as you'll see,
Many get sorted out fairly quickly,
Because let's say several days,
Maybe weeks into the actual classroom students walk in and they're posted on this whiteboard at the front of the class.
There's this pretty long equation with an equal sign at the end.
And the master says to the students,
Those of you who are going to go on with the next lesson,
You are given this test and you are to solve it.
You have two days.
We'll meet back again where I want to see what you have come up with as the solution to this equation.
So two days later,
Class files back in minus about,
Oh,
Let's say seven students that don't bother to show up.
And the teachers provided there in front of the classroom a bunch of whiteboards and one by one the students get up in front of the class.
And they begin to write out their lengthy expositions,
Some of them two,
Three,
Four,
Five billboards,
Whiteboards long,
All in a solution to the equation that the master had written on the board.
And of course,
As you might imagine,
Some are one whiteboard long,
Some two,
Some five,
Some say they need more.
And each solution to this equation is different than the others.
Now,
At a certain point,
The last student to get up is a young woman.
Her name is Aramesh.
She gets up and walks over to the classroom's main board where the equation this teacher wrote out is written there.
And she reaches down and gets an eraser and erases the equation.
At which point you can imagine the whole class kind of gas,
The whole collapse.
The whole class collapses into a kind of gasp.
Because what does that mean?
She turns,
Eramesh turns to the master and says,
And not without some hesitation.
She says,
That is my answer to your test.
Another gasp goes through the classroom.
She says to the teacher,
The equation itself is false.
We could spend a thousand hours trying to solve it,
But no true solution exists because the theorem itself that you posted is flawed.
And the room erupts,
You can imagine,
She's insulted the master.
Surely he's going to fail her.
They all watch the master gets up slowly,
Facial expression,
Quiet.
And walks up behind Aramesh.
And points his finger toward the door.
And the students blurts out,
Yeah,
He's right.
You're done.
Another one says,
Get out of here.
And of general murmur goes through the whole classroom.
And then the teacher.
It's a silence.
And everybody falls quiet then.
Comes a shock that no one in that room suspected and I might add not even to this day.
And the teacher says,
I am not dismissing Aramesh.
It is the rest of you who must leave.
Please gather your things in silence.
And if you want to pick up this class again,
You may return tomorrow when the class will start again from afresh.
So murmuring and angry,
Most of the students wander out.
And the last student out the door turns around and walks back.
Walks up to the teacher and says,
Please.
I want to understand.
How?
Is Aramesh's answer the right solution?
And the teacher could see this student sincerely wanted to know.
Which by the way,
That student would go on to pass the next class with the next unique test.
And he explains to the student,
He says,
Only Aramesh arrived at and realized the answer to this test.
All of you assumed.
Because I wrote it.
That the equation was true.
And I might add,
Ignoring the fact that it could only be solved,
As we could see by evidence here,
By some ridiculous mathematical fabrication,
And that each of you were willing to stand up here and presume to defend what couldn't be defended because it didn't resolve the equation.
On the other hand,
Aramesh obviously having gone through the same futile iterations that everyone else did.
She could see the pain of trying to prove what was false.
And began to study the equation instead of looking for a result to answer it.
So she alone finally had the courage to question its premise.
Which is the solution to all false equations.
To question the premise is the solution to all false equations.
Only Aramesh passed the test.
The rest of you can come back,
Including you,
And you'll have another chance to solve this equation.
How many of you can grasp some of what that story is implying?
Just Terry,
Huh?
That's okay.
I'll explain it.
The story is not about mathematics.
It's about us.
Every day,
One way or another,
You and I wake up.
And maybe even when we're laying there in bed,
But certainly the day begins by a certain kind of struggle to solve a series of invisible equations that don't even appear to be solved until something triggers a thought.
So that we end up stretching ourselves out through endless iterations of ways to solve whatever it is,
Like,
Well,
What am I going to do?
And how's this going to go?
And what does that mean?
Believing that the solution to the fear of consequence,
If we don't get the right answer,
Means that somehow or other,
The question itself is based in reality.
That it's a true equation.
That I must answer the moment,
And I must answer it correctly,
And I haven't much time to do it in.
Can you see this with me?
I don't want to go on if we've reached an impasse.
That's all we know.
But is it all that's possible?
And the answer is emphatically no.
Kate,
Let's bring up the second key lesson.
It'll help us with the transition.
Read along with me,
Everybody,
Please.
No matter how many times we tally the outcome.
Our daily struggles keep adding up.
To zero.
The conclusion.
Is inescapable.
We are either looking to prove a result in a formula yet to be realized,
Or something few of us are willing to consider,
The real problem is with our equation itself.
The real problem is with our equation itself.
You know the definition of insanity,
Right?
What did Einstein say?
The definition of insanity is to repeat the same thing over and over again and expect a different outcome.
That's the definition of insanity.
Look,
I understand how difficult it is for us to be honest with ourselves.
But if we are honest,
In fact,
How many times every single day?
Do we look out at suddenly this moment comes and it says,
You must,
They should.
And there's this sense of action that has to be taken.
And we start to struggle with what that best action is going to be.
And no matter how many times we struggle with it.
If we're honest,
The result still turns out to be zero.
And I say it turns out to be zero because we keep having to repeat the same lesson over and over again,
Failing to see that there isn't a solution to the moment at hand.
But the solution begins with seeing that the parts of us that are presenting this equation of live or die,
Fail or succeed,
Will or won't,
That all of that belongs to a nature that keeps presenting equations that we look at as consequence.
And the consequence is if we don't succeed,
Then we won't achieve the result.
That something in us arrived at before the moment came.
So that I'm always trying to make life live up to a result I have in mind.
Instead of understanding what is right in front of us.
That the moment itself is the result.
Are you following me?
Let's make a transition.
Honestly.
What is most of our time filled with?
Whether it's in our bed,
In our office.
At the breakfast table,
Sitting there,
Whatever it might be.
What is most of our time filled with?
And we can simplify the answer,
Can't we?
Can't we just say that most of our time is filled with thinking?
Even when we're doing eating.
Walking from place to place.
Not in my body!
I'm thinking.
What is it the thinker is always working on,
One way or another?
Have you looked enough?
Have you studied yourself enough?
The thinker is always trying to make life fit into the equation.
Of what it needs to feel secure and happy or figure out why life isn't doing it.
Why did she do this?
Why are they like that?
Why is this moment that way?
And if you look at it,
You can't ask that question unless prior to that event,
Something that you had determined how that person should be.
This is the result of my conversation with you.
You go,
You're right guy.
I don't know how it could have been so mistaken.
We look at life through the eyes of something that has already determined the result.
And our confusion in life is when everything that we've added up doesn't bring out the result that we've already expected,
Become attached to,
And then want to live from.
Are you able to make that transition?
Can you see that with me?
So that in either case,
This nature is imagining what it must do or what it must be.
In order to achieve the result that it has named.
As being what must be realized if I'm ever going to have any kind of peace.
And so my mind is constantly calculating,
Calculating,
Calculating.
Isn't that what thinking is doing,
Is calculating?
And what is it calculating?
Is calculating what it must produce or create in order to bring about a result that it is already identified with and afraid not to experience.
So that it seems like we're thinking through a problem when really what we're thinking through is why the event doesn't match the result we'd imagined it was supposed to.
Is this too subtle?
Can you see it with me?
So that my aim literally every single day.
Is to look out at life.
And then begin to deal with these thoughts that come up.
As time triggers certain passages and I'm presented with conditions or circumstances,
Some of which I may have already prepared for so that the result would be given,
Or some that when they come up,
Bring up this consequence.
And now I'm terrified.
I think I'm terrified of the moment.
I'm not afraid of the moment.
I'm afraid that the consequence is I'll exit this moment,
Having made the wrong choice.
And the result will be,
I'm not going to be happy the way I've imagined the result is supposed to be.
So my aim every day without understanding it.
Remains unchanged.
And what is my aim that remains unchanged?
It is to ensure that the events of my life live up to and fulfill the result I've imagined they're supposed to.
Haven't you ever wondered?
Maybe not.
Why in the name of God am I suddenly afraid of something?
Why am I worried you're coming over or I have to go see?
What's the consequence in an event that hasn't happened yet?
I'm here,
The office is 42 miles,
58 minutes away.
And yet I'm already looking at a consequence of walking through and finding something on my desk or somebody staring at me,
Whatever it might be.
How can I be afraid of a consequence of a moment that hasn't unfolded?
Do you see it with me?
If one is going to have a genuinely different life,
It's not going to come through trying to manage the outcome.
Manipulate people,
Fight with circumstances to get it to align.
It's going to begin only as I begin to understand the nature that's forever seeking the results it has imagined it must have to have the results and a happy life.
So we see life through the eyes of an unconscious nature.
That never stops measuring moment by moment life by a yardstick of its own making.
And it's not even its own making,
It's depending on the culture and the conditioning of that life.
Which means that largely unseen,
And it is,
Most of our choices and actions are born out of trying to solve a false equation.
But we don't see it as a false equation.
So I've taken the time here.
I can't spend a lot of time here on this,
But I want you to see three examples of false equations that we don't yet see as false.
You know what 2 plus 2 is for,
Right?
So we go,
Well,
Fear.
Of this moment.
Plus.
Avoiding it.
Is the same as self-protection.
Fear plus avoidance equals self-protection.
Can you see that kind of math in your own mind?
How about anxiety?
Plus.
Extreme planning!
Is how to navigate those waters,
Which is like asking the captain of the Titanic to help you navigate a field full of icebergs.
Anxiety plus plenty.
What do I do when I'm anxious?
I start thinking,
What do I do?
What do I do?
And that's the equation,
Anxiety plus planning,
Two plus two.
Doesn't enter four,
Doesn't make four,
It makes fall.
How about this for a false equation?
Plus,
Blame.
Is the resolution of the moment.
That's how I resolve my resentment.
Blame.
Anger plus blame equals resolution.
Can you see that that's a false equation?
That I've got anger,
I bring in blame.
And blame seems to be the way to resolve my irritation.
Well,
That's nuts.
Anger plus blame turns out to be resentment.
Resentment plus the equation,
Resentment plus the continuation of that relationship turns out to be a divorce,
A broken relationship.
You can see it.
Can you not?
These are false equations.
Yes or no.
And yet we don't see them in our life.
You think about here,
Here I'm sitting.
Wait,
Here,
Here,
Okay,
So,
Oh my God.
Rushing.
Plus.
Running over whatever I have to to get it done.
Means I'll be free.
No,
Rushing and running produces a nature that never arrives at where it's going,
Which is to this result,
It calls freedom from the stress.
So if you can see these equations as false,
Here's three examples of false beliefs that keep false equations in place.
See this with me.
With all due respect,
You are sunk if you don't see what I'm describing,
Because why?
Because you'll just have to repeat the class where the equation goes up there and you believe because I have to answer the equation as it's written.
This mind writes out,
It does so that it can bring you to the same result,
Which is from time to time,
Oh,
I got it.
And then equally seeing,
I don't got it.
Three examples of false beliefs that keep these false equations in place.
How about this one?
The more you get done,
The more successful you are.
Isn't that an equation in this world?
The more you get done,
The more successful you are.
The less you see them sweat,
The cooler you are.
The faster you go,
The closer you get to your final destination.
Are these not false beliefs that keep these equations?
Isn't that the equation?
Fine.
Got to go.
Got to go.
Got to go.
Why?
Because then I'll get where I've got to get to.
But do I ever get where I've got to get to?
Or have I been taken by a nature that says,
Here's the problem.
Here's the consequence.
Do it,
Get it,
Get it over.
And I go,
Oh yeah,
Okay.
Because then the result will be what?
I can finally rest someplace.
And if you can see that you are not able to rest someplace,
Which you are not,
Except for when you've eaten too much food,
Had too much wine,
Or so tired from running that you finally collapse,
If I see that I can begin to realize this is a false equation.
Here's another one.
The more that we judge our shortcomings.
Or the shortcomings of others,
The less in common we have with them.
Isn't that extraordinary?
That's the equation.
If I can judge your shortcoming.
It proves that I have nothing in common with it.
When the fact is I wouldn't judge the shortcoming in another person unless it triggered in me a corresponding character that when it came up,
I had to deny it,
Which is what judgment is about.
Can you follow me with all this?
I don't want to go too fast,
But I also have a certain time constraint.
Where did I learn this equation?
I learned it from God love.
I did.
I love my father.
I love my mother.
I was surrounded by wildly successful human beings.
I won't go into it.
Human beings,
The whole world admires was my circle.
And every last one of them dysfunctional.
Every last one dysfunctional,
Why?
Because they were living out the equation of the industry,
The culture,
The environment that told them,
Here's the equation.
Sell whatever you have to sell to get whatever you imagine you need so that when you get it,
Your need will come to an end and you'll be a complete human being.
When the equation begins with a lie.
And the lie the equation begins with is that there's a result that you can create that's going to release you from this sense of being an incomplete human being who's still looking for the right result to bring an end to that pain.
Do shit!
Kate,
Let's bring up the third key lesson,
Please.
Read along with me.
It reads,
Put away your pencils and notebooks.
Your canvas and crayons.
You can't capture light.
Peace of mind is not an outcome any more than love is an equation.
You can't capture light.
Peace of mind is not an outcome.
Any more than love is an equation.
And yet,
Isn't that exactly how we meet it?
In a constant state,
A kind of race.
Where we believe that if we could just get everything in the right place at the right time in the right way,
Then at last,
What we did would match the result that we expected if we were able to pull all of that off.
Let's have the next key lesson,
Please,
Kate.
It helps summarize what we're looking at.
Human suffering is not produced because we fail to solve life's equation?
But because we never question whether the equation itself is true.
Human suffering is not produced because we fail to solve life's equation,
But I'll restate it,
But because we struggle to make what we've equated to be the answer to our suffering into something that we must have no matter what it does to the rest of the world or our relationships.
Our present master.
Is an unending sense of consequence born of measuring some moment yet to come.
Where our experience of it,
As wanted or not,
Has been determined by an unconscious reaction to it telling us what it means.
So here comes someone and they have a certain expression on their face.
Now,
I don't think to myself prior to you walking in the room that I know the result of our encounter.
But the minute what you're doing doesn't match something in me that has come into that moment,
Already figuring out the result,
Meaning the outcome of that moment,
How you should be,
The minute that does,
I have a negative reaction.
And I believe I'm reacting to your facial expression.
I'm not reacting to your facial expression.
I'm reacting to what my mind is telling me your facial expression means.
Far be it from me to realize you bit into a lemon prior to walking into the room.
Although a lot of people do make us sour,
That's a fact.
But to wet in the good of any of that calibration.
Have you ever found yourself,
You know,
Walking on eggshells around people?
Why in the name of God would you walk around on eggshells?
Other than if you don't,
The result will be something that you fear the consequence of.
They won't like you.
They won't do this.
They won't stop giving.
And so because of a consequence imagined,
You do everything you can to avoid the result that's imagined.
This is why so much of our life is spent measuring moments without knowing that something in us has gone before us to create this misery.
So instead of seeing a misery-making nature,
Which is any nature that compares what is incomparable,
You want to know what misery and conflict is?
It is this nature that never stops comparing an incomparable moment to what it was hoping could be produced in that moment.
So we're just constantly calculating,
Calculating,
Calculating.
And I don't know if you've noticed this.
Have you ever driven yourself crazy with your calculations?
And finally,
When you can't take it anymore,
You just decide on what ultimately turns out to be the lesser of two evils?
Well,
I ran it through the machinery.
I ran it through AI.
AI isn't the future,
It's the past regurgitated.
It's just a faster way to come to the same result.
That does nothing to release us from a consciousness that can't get where it wants to get to fast enough so that it can find what it never finds there.
So the result of all of our calculations,
Again,
Honesty.
What's the result of my fear?
Because isn't that what I'm calculating?
How do I avoid?
How do I gain?
How do I fix?
Has any of those calculations changed my experience of life or has my experience become the endless calculation of a moment that only exists because of my past conditioning?
We don't know how to deal with dark moments,
What we call a dark moment.
Like that's even a problem itself,
Isn't it?
Oh,
There's a dark moment.
Why?
Because it doesn't look like the light.
It's not revealing what I expected it to reveal.
And when that happens,
All I know to do is to turn my life over to some,
Some thought process going to come up with a new equation,
A new plan,
A new destination.
And then I identify with that.
And that's the result that I expect.
And then I run that equation and I write out my fabricated answers.
That's the part of the story.
Why did some of them write out seven boards long of fabricated answers?
Because that's how they got to a place where they could accept that they understood the equation,
When they never understood the equation,
Because the equation can't be understood by the mind that creates it.
The great invitation,
If you will,
In this life.
Isn't to discover some better psychological answer.
We've been doing that for millennia.
What do you think all of the laws are about?
They are the way in which they prop up answers that didn't succeed and then formulate some kind of authority behind them so that one group of people can make another group of people live out the result they expect while they,
By the way,
Don't have to live up to that result.
So the answer isn't to discover new answers,
But to question the nature whose unconscious equation of life keeps demanding that somehow the result look like what it expects.
Whenever fear appears or anger.
Isn't there this instantaneous questioning of the reaction?
I should restate that.
Isn't there an unending questioning of the condition that produced the reaction?
Isn't that what we do?
Suddenly I'm afraid.
My mind says,
Well,
Sure,
It's natural.
You've got this to do,
That to get,
There to go,
This to pull off.
And so the equation is,
I must somehow or other achieve the result.
Of being able to get through the moment.
Squeaky clean!
So that's the result.
I imagine that everything that comes along is a threat.
If you want to write something down,
Write this down.
It's not a key lesson.
The moment of revelation.
The moment that that revelation takes place,
The moment the reaction is revealed can't be wrong.
The moment of revelation can't be wrong.
The moment of revelation can't be wrong.
That's impossible unless you believe that flowers should only open in a certain way or that clouds should never be dark.
The moment of that revelation,
Of any revelation,
Can't be wrong.
I think I'm reacting to what's revealed.
I am not reacting to what the moment is revealing.
Which is always a new form of creation.
I am reacting to a moment that my mind says doesn't match what that same mind created as the necessary result if it was going to find a way to escape its restlessness.
And if the result.
.
.
Of the moment is always the only way it can be given.
Please try to see this.
The result of the moment is the only way it can be given.
I'm looking out at a bay,
The tide's going out.
That's creation.
It is the result of an endless series of intersecting forces and laws.
It is what it is.
It can't be other than that.
But if I'm sitting here and saying,
Oh,
Wait,
The water's going out,
The deal of blah,
Blah,
Blah,
Blah,
Then is,
Am I reacting to the result of the moment or am I responding to what I,
My mind says the consequence of that bay going out?
And if you do this with me,
If you can see it,
Then if it's time to question,
The parts of us that resist anything that doesn't add up to its equation of what it means to be a profitable human being in that moment.
The master in that classroom,
The master of math.
Never wanted his students to solve the impossible.
I'm gonna let that sit with you for a minute.
Your present master is always telling you to solve the impossible.
Get rid of your anxiety.
By making plans to be free of it when everything else happens the way you expect it to.
The impossibility of bringing an end to anger.
By trying to control the conditions or blame the people you see as responsible for it.
The true master never asks the student to solve the impossible.
The true master,
In this case,
As is given in that story.
Wants the student,
Wants you and I to see that as long as we keep looking for a solution to a false equation,
All we will ever come up with is false answers that we have to recalculate and protect.
Can you see it with me?
That means that when that sudden stress comes up,
That instantaneous resistance,
You cannot escape the resistance.
The resistance is the result.
The resistance is part of a creation.
But when that resistance comes up,
That nature that is responsible for that negative reaction then says,
Aha.
This doesn't match the result we've been expecting.
Therefore,
We must re-imagine,
Re-examine,
And redo the whole thing.
Do whatever you must to everyone you know in order to get them to look like and act like you need them to look like and act like.
So the more false answers.
.
.
The more false actions.
The more false actions,
The more false results.
The more false results,
The greater the need to recalculate and come up with once again what will be what we believe is a solution to our suffering.
When the suffering is the result of believing in and acting out an equation that has no answer.
And that is the answer in that ultimate paradox.
Because that's the lesson when everything is said and done.
There is a peace that passes understanding.
Because it was never the product of calculation.
You can't calculate your way into contentment.
It's impossible.
You can't calculate your way into a life that's fearless as it's intended to be.
Because calculation begins with fear.
What happened?
Oh,
I know.
What do I do?
Here's where you are.
And fear is the master.
Whereas the real master is saying the problem,
The equation that you're looking at begins with this false.
Equation.
The peace that passes understanding appears naturally when the mind stops trying to prove a false equation true.
So it's not about something to do.
Not how to deal with.
It certainly has nothing to do with how do I get through this moment.
What's the moment you're trying to get through?
Something the mind projects as being an interference with the result that you are seeking,
Which you say is to be a peaceful,
Contented human being.
Like asking a fan to straighten out a stack of papers.
Kate,
Let's bring up the.
.
.
The last of the key lessons,
Please,
It serves as a summary and a kind of exercise.
And then we will open up this room for four or five,
Six minutes where we can have a dialogue if any of you want to share any ideas or ask any questions.
Follow closely.
Study this.
There is no answer to any psychological fear.
And as all such fear is the creation of some imagined consequence.
There is no answer to any psychological fear.
And all such fear is the creation of an imagined consequence other than to see that it is the creation of a false equation.
That's the answer.
To see that it is the creation of a false equation and then leave it at that.
Dare to add nothing to any unwanted moment is how you make nothing out of it.
A mind that is making moments into something mountainous.
Is making you into the one that has to climb it or get through it or avoid it.
There is no answer to psychological fear and all fear is the creation of some imagined consequence.
So the answer to psychological fear is to see that it's the creation of a false equation.
And if you see that,
Even if you just can a little bit,
You leave it at that.
Well,
See,
I'm terrified.
I have to go talk to somebody today.
I've got this meeting.
Oh,
I'm going to see a doctor in 10 days.
What if they this?
And how about that?
What's this strange bump?
You fill in the blanks 10,
000 times a day.
Without knowing it,
Something goes consequence,
Danger will rob us and consequence.
And you can't understand that the fear of that consequence doesn't exist without a nature that has decided,
A,
No such consequence should take place in your life,
Because the real answer is that you will,
If you don't already have the peace that passes understanding.
Add nothing to these moments and you will make nothing out of it.
The cost of making nothing out of an unwanted moment is the sacrifice of that nature that doesn't know what else to do,
Except build a mountain out of a molehill.
So we've got four,
Five,
Six minutes that we can talk if you want to.
If you have something you want to bring up,
A question of some kind,
Anything,
I'm happy to share the time with you.
I intend to do it from now on.
Even if we just sit and I look at the screen and you look at me.
Anybody is welcome to add what they wish.
Now is a good time if you want to do it.
Where do you have in your life?
A false equation.
We went through them.
Rushing leads to rest.
Isn't that a false equation?
Anger is the same as control,
Isn't that a false equation?
Yes,
All these things that you're writing on the chat here,
They're true,
People.
But it's not true unless I find it in my life in some specific way.
It's always presenting itself.
How many of you put on a brave face?
That's a false equation.
What's the false equation?
Putting on a brave face.
No,
Nothing flusters me.
Why is it a false equation?
Because I wouldn't put it on if I weren't afraid.
So I'm actually embracing the nature that fears by putting on a fearless face.
Add nothing to a moment where you missed the mark,
Yes.
Here I am and I suddenly,
I see,
Oh my God,
I just acted out.
Exactly the thing he's been talking about.
I saw it and I saw myself do it.
In that moment.
Don't add anything to the revelation.
The result is complete.
What's the complete result?
Seeing that I could not live up to what my mind says it understands.
Now I have new understanding.
I'm not this self that passes itself off immediately as being some master of the moment.
Going into thought about a tormenting event.
Is the continuation of the event.
But thought doesn't say that.
Thought says,
I'm going to calculate my way out of this trouble.
You can't calculate your way out of trouble because the trouble is the calculation in this nature that brought you into that moment.
No examples.
Do you just listen to these talks and feel like you understand?
Or do you want to understand your feelings so that you can begin to finally escape that trap?
Why can you see what is wrong with others but not see what is wrong with you?
Yes,
Of course.
Because that's why I see what's wrong with others.
When Christ said,
Those of you who are without sin put the first,
Drop the stone.
And when he did that,
He showed them the consequence.
Of being identified with some ideology,
Some religious rule that says if this person sins,
You should punish them.
Christ is saying,
Don't punish the one that you see as the problematic.
See the parts of you that want to punish them as being problematic,
Because that's the problem,
That you think you're superior,
Better than,
Other than those you would judge.
There's nothing easier in the world than to judge others.
We do it all the time.
How about that for a false equation?
I said it when I was talking.
If I judge myself,
It must prove that I'm not the one being judged.
No,
It doesn't.
Why do I need to judge anything other than,
And you need to see this,
Seeing something in that person brings up a character in me I simply deny.
So the denial of this character that is similar in quality is what judges the other person,
Not intelligence.
Dee writes,
Creating a drama in my mind of a future event.
Yeah.
Well,
Why,
Why does my mind do that,
Dee?
Why does,
Why do I think about what something means when the event hasn't happened yet?
Because the measuring mind is looking at that moment and deciding that if it doesn't end in the result anticipated,
Then whatever else is part of not being anticipated turns out to be a big problem that I'm going to have to then calculate something over again with my mind.
So fear plus avoidance does not equal peace,
Of course not.
Why do I say no instantly?
You say,
You want to do something?
Will you go?
And I go,
No.
The thought comes,
Should you get out of your chair?
No.
Why?
Well,
Because there's a consequence.
If I do that,
I might have to do something I don't want to do.
Now I haven't been asked to do anything yet,
But my mind says,
Well,
You know what?
You've had this experience before,
So best you just avoid it.
So fear doesn't bring an end to what I avoid,
It ensures a nature that never stops trying to avoid life,
Remains in charge,
Remains my master.
