I'm not a life coach. I just play one on the internet. Yeah. Yes. So there's a lot of those. Yeah. So we've been, We haven't been in contact that much with like communication that much in the last couple of weeks. How is the, We got a chance to speak yesterday for a little bit or two days ago. How is life in the Dominican Republic, Dude? That's pretty darn good. I gotta be honest. Yeah. It doesn't suck. Yeah, No, It's, It's, It's a completely different vibe, You know? I mean, It kind of sounds weird, But I was, I was kind of trying to explain it today and I was like, I try to live mindfully and with, You know, Meditation daily and, And, You know, So I think my pace is slower than a lot of people's because of that, Because I try to make it. Right. But it's like the, The United States is going at a hundred miles an hour and I'm going at like, I'm going at 70. Yeah. You know? So it's like, I'm like, Yeah, Man, This is, You know, Not bad. I'm more peaceful than most, You know? And then I get here and the Dominican Republic is doing 50 and I'm doing 70 and it's like, Oh, I thought I was like, Chill. I'm really not that chill. Like, You know, And so it took me a few days just to lower my energy, My speed. Like the first couple of days I was literally doing things in slow motion. I was like, I'd like go to get a drink of water and I was like, It was just so calm. Like I just had to get used to it. Yeah. It was wild. So that's the, You're going to be there for a while. And and you know, I mentioned this to you briefly on our call. What is the difference now that you're working? Right. So, So the first week you were there, First 10 days you were there, Whatever it was, You had your birthday there, Which is awesome. Happy birthday. Thank you. And you're welcome. And then so you had your like vacation, Vacation where you're there and you're chilling and you're walking the beach and you're doing that. And now you're working, You're back to your full time schedule. But your surroundings have changed. So how has that been this week? You know, Doing the doing the Dominican still, But you know, Also having your normal life to some degree. It's been good. I mean, I, You know, To be honest with you, I think like, Like what I was talking about before about slowing down, You know, I slowed down even more and, You know, So I'm living more presently and more calmly and more with more awareness. So I think if anything, I think I, I think I enjoy my work even more, You know, Like I was sitting there going, Oh, I, You know, I have a day filled with clients tomorrow and I was like, Oh good. You know, Like it's because I enjoy what I do. So it was like, Oh yeah, That'll be fun. You know, I was like really looking forward to it. Whereas back in the States, It wasn't, I mean, I never dreaded working. I enjoy my job, But like, I never, There was like a little extra added excitement because I was more present and aware of the excitement, You know, Maybe it's already, It's always there, But I'm just kind of moving too quickly to realize it. So I think it's enhanced things, You know, Just like, Which doesn't surprise me. I mean, It's any, Anytime you become more present and more aware in your life and, You know, Really take things in the way they are, It enhances your life. It doesn't diminish your life. So, So yeah, I think it's, It's, It's, It's been an upswing in the relaxation and also with the work. Yeah, Absolutely. Um, That's, That's awesome. And I, You know what, It's going to be nice to sort of check in every week live and see how you're doing and, And see if you're ever coming back. And my money is on no. So so anyway, My, Our first question tonight is about, Um, Adulthood. So our first question is, That somebody wants to know, You get to a point where you want to actually feel like an adult. But I haven't been there yet. A lot of my focus right now is going on savings, Purchasing a home, Having a real job, Stuff like that. Um, How do, How do I stay motivated while, While being serious and not tying myself down too much? How do you stay serious without being, How do you, How do you stay motivated, Motivated without being too serious? I think it's structure, You know, It's kind of, That's a tough, Kind of a tough question to navigate because it's like, The answer is always spiritual. You know, That there's always a core answer that works in every situation all the time. And so of course, I'm always looking for that. So as you're reading it, I'm like, It's just surface, Surface, Surface, Surface, Surface. And like, There's no substance there to latch on to. So it's like, I mean, You know, So I'm looking at like, How do I make money being an adult? An adult is just a mindset. Buying a house is, You know, I mean, It's not complicated. You just put money in the bank till you have enough in your buy house. Like, You know, Like I'm looking for the substance there. So the piece, The only piece I can find is how do you stay motivated? And it's like, Okay, Well then motivation. You know, Motivation is that the more you're doing what you like, The motivation just comes because you enjoy doing what you do. That's why it's so important. Like, If you think you're going to just stay motivated doing something you hate, Well, It's going to be very difficult. You're going to have to stick yourself with a cattle prod on a regular basis because it's all self-induced. It's not like you're going against life. So it's not going to be easy. So how do you keep your self-motivated when you're living in a direction that doesn't bring you joy? It's hard. So I mean, I would recommend not doing it. Stopping, Putting some energy to figure out what you do want to do and then ride the wave of the enthusiasm that comes with it and life gets much easier. That's what I would recommend. So yeah, The motivation just comes. But I mean, You know, And from a, I do consider myself a spiritual realist. So that's why I mentioned structure. It's like, You know, If you have things that you want to accomplish, There's nothing wrong with that. So bring some structure and, You know, Look at your paycheck. You say, Hey, This is what I make. If I stay on this path, I can put, You know, Budget your money, Say how much you can put aside, Stick to it. If you don't want to get too serious with life, Then structure fun time. That's something a lot of people don't do. Structure fun time. I work too much, You know, So I've gotten pretty good now, But I structured fun time for years. I didn't have to structure work time. I always work. I had to block off times where I could just, And I didn't necessarily have something to do. It was just like, Don't work. Don't do anything serious during this time. Don't work. Don't clean. Don't run errands. Don't do anything responsible during these blocks of time, You know, And that helped me bring in some balance. I think that's really fun. I definitely think that that's probably part of time that I'm missing right now personally is, You know, So my father passed away last week or week and a half ago and everybody was like, You need to take time off. You need to take time off. And I had a ridiculously busy week last week and I was like, Well, Next week I'll take time off. And then I woke up on Monday morning and I didn't really do much until like a little before noon. And I was like, I am not taking time off. I don't want to. I'll take like, I want to take time for myself, But I don't want to take time off and I don't think that that's a bad thing. Like I like what I do and there are people that, You know, There's a church that depends on me. There's the government of Rhode Island in some ways depends on me to do my job every day and I don't really want to. And I kind of created this thing where I'm the only person that does these things. So I didn't want to take the time off and I didn't feel like I needed to, You know, With the craziness of this. But what it did make clear was that I don't set aside a lot of time for, You know, I have friends that I live with that I haven't seen in a couple of weeks. And you know, So stuff like that is just very apparent to me at the moment. And so structuring some downtime I think is really important. Yeah, And I think that makes a lot of sense to me right now. Yeah, I think your situation is kind of, It's a good one to learn from because like, Because your life has shifted a lot and not even with your dad passing, But like with this, With COVID, Your business is taken off and you you're doing 10 times more than you were. And like life does that sometimes. And oftentimes I think we don't understand what balance is. Like it's okay. It's okay sometimes to go through a busy stretch. It's okay to work a ton when there's a wave, You know, Every once in a while. Like, I don't think there's anything wrong with you working as much as you have, You know, You do enjoy it. And this is a unique situation. It's a new unique opportunity to expand your business and do all kinds of wonderful, Amazing things. And you're taking advantage of that. And there's nothing wrong with that. And for your personal life to kind of take a back seat a little bit to some degree for a while, It's fine, You know, But you just don't want to stay like that forever. That's where people get in trouble is when they go through one of these waves and then they never get back to the balanced point, You know? So now, You know, You've been through this stuff and it's like, Okay, You know, You now it's time to start bringing in some balance, Start bringing in some downtime. You just had a tremendous loss. So, You know, Make sure you take some time to go in and allow yourself to feel the feelings and process some of that a little bit at a time, You know, But there's not one way for people to grieve and there's not one way for people to live. It's just, We have to find that, But you know, It's not complicated when we go, You know, All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, You know? So we have to get that balance back at some point and we do have to give ourselves time to grieve and to feel and, You know, We can't run away from that stuff, But there's nothing wrong with, You know, Doing, Riding that wave of opportunity when it comes and putting a little effort into one area of your life. We do it in family life too. Sometimes our failing family needs 100% of our time and the work needs to be put on hold. It's okay to do those things. It's just trying to get back into balance after not too long of a period. Speaking of sort of the theme, I guess at the beginning, And you guys can ask questions about anything you want, But so far the theme to this day has been like adulthood. And so my next question is you are, I'm running from adulthood. You're quite a bit older than me, A little bit. And a little bit. Yeah, Just a little bit. You were an adult before I was born. That's a fact. So my question is, Like, Do you, Is there ever a point where you actually feel like, Okay, Now I'm an adult and like, I'm, Or is there like, Or do you always just kind of like, Feel like you're making it up as you go along? I think it's a little bit of both, You know, Like, I mean, At some point it's like, You're like, Okay, You know, I get it. I mean, Been there, Done that, Bought the t-shirt, You know, So, I mean, There is kind of a, A certain aspect of acceptance. I think it comes when, I think it comes the 11th time somebody calls you sir at a store. The 11th time someone calls you sir. Okay. I haven't been to a store in months. Yeah. And then also, So this, Yeah, This pandemic is delaying it for everyone. It's wonderful. But yeah, There comes a time when you're just like, Yeah, All right, I guess I'm an adult, But you never know what you're doing. I mean, You never have it all figured out. I mean, You, You want to test that theory, Just become a parent. I mean, You know, You're in a way, You're kind of a parent, You know, You've, You've taken care of a small child. So it's like, Like, Do you ever know what you're doing with it? Take care of a child for an extended period of time. You don't even have to become a parent. That'll make it real clear that we never know what we're doing. That's true. Yeah. When I'm taking care of the child, I, Which is how I will refer to him from now on, When I'm, When I'm taking care of the child, I'm like, Ah, You know, You're weighing it. I think I got this. You mess it up and then you realize what you did and then you try to do it a little better the next time. Right. So I think it's a good, Um, You know, Good mirror for life because that's kind of how life is when we look at it. The price, See, The problem is, Is in life, We actually were so habitual and society is so habitual that we can put enough things in alignment. We can control enough things where we actually think we have control more than when we're with a child, With a child, It's pretty obvious. I mean, They're just, You know, They're going with the flow of their own energy, So it's constantly changing and we can't really control what's happening. So it's more obvious in life. We're like, Oh, I'll just buy a dependable car. And then most times when I turn the key, It'll start good. That's one less thing I have to think about. Okay. And then if I put gas in it, When it's a half a tank full, I never get to the point where it's close to running out and then I have to panic. Okay, Good. And we set all these things in place in our lives where we think we actually can control our lives. And so it gives us the illusion that we can, And then we go, No, I think I got this life thing. I think I'm pretty good. And then what happens is when too many people do that, A pandemic hits. It goes, No, You don't. No, You don't. That's all an illusion. You don't have control over anything. You guys really don't know what you're doing and it's okay. It's okay to not know, You know, And then we start learning if we're, If we're open to it, We start learning how to function in a different way. So I think that's part of the, Part of the adult thing is, You know, It's reflected in a very famous spiritual saying. You know, The more you understand, The less you know. So it's, But that we're not supposed to know everything. We're, You know, We're just supposed to go with it and do the best we can. We have a comment question here. I once told my mom that I felt like someone was going to realize I'm not an adult enough to have these nearly grown children. And when would I feel like a real adult that knows what they're doing? She leaned over and said, I don't know. I'll let you know when it happens to me. She was 69 at the time. Exactly. Exactly. That's, That's exactly what we're saying. Like you never know. You know, You never know. And you never, I don't think you ever feel like your age. Like, You know, I mean, I feel, What am I, I just turned 52. I mean, I don't know. I'm like in my 30s somewhere in my head. You know, I don't, What I thought, You know, What I like, I don't know. It's just mental conceptions, You know, I mean, I think of you as if you're in your thirties, Cause I think of myself as if I'm, You know, 18. So right. That's kind of how it works. You know, My grandmother was 96 and she was saying, She's like, You know, I don't know, Maybe I feel like early sixties or something late fifties, You know, It's just, Just how we feel. And, You know, We have a mental perception of what old is. And then all of a sudden we started aging and we're like, Well, I'm not that I'm not what my perception was. Like when I was a teenager, I didn't think I was going to live. I probably told you this before, But a lot of people probably don't know. I wrote a will when I was like in my late teens and I taped it up underneath my coffee table that everybody carved their names in, In my apartment. And somebody was laying on the floor and saw it and they pulled it down and they're like, What the heck is this? Your will? They're like, This is your will, Glen. You're 19. Like why do you have a will? And I was like, Well, Do you think I'm going to make it to 95? I mean 25. And he was like, Oh yeah. All right. And everybody in the room was like, Oh, I got it. Yeah. Good point. And then, And he put it back, You know, Like, Yeah, We, He read it and then he was like, Yeah, We better save this. You know, Because it's a general consensus was I wasn't going to make it to 25. Okay. You know, So, So like when I hit 25, I'm like, Huh, This wasn't supposed to happen, You know, But like then you hit 30 and you're like, Oh my God, I'm not a kid anymore. I'm I'm, I think I'm supposed to do it, Be doing something with my life. And I wasn't, You know, That was actually the beginning of my real spiral before I had my awakening started when I was turning 30. It was really traumatic for me, You know, Cause I could make excuses for being a loser in my twenties. But like when you're hitting 30, It's like pretty obvious. Like you can't kind of just go, Oh, Whatever, You know, I'm young, I'm in my twenties. Like, Like, Eh, You're kind of a loser, Glen. Joni says, I wrote my bucket list when I was 14, Before that was even the face. Well, I mean, It depends on, It depends on you know, Like how you perceive a bucket list. That's not necessarily a bad thing. You know, If it's just a list of things that you want to do in life, That's a wonderful thing. You can write that at any age, You know, For younger is probably better because like you don't have these blocks that you create as you get older, You know, You're like, Oh my God, I want to go to Egypt. And that's just as possible as going to the next town over tomorrow. It is. Yeah. I was watching. So last night I watched a, Last night I watched a movie from the seventies that is about westerly. It was made in like a small town film about the town that I live in, But it was from the seventies about 45 minutes. And it was all about like the main narrative of the movie. It's a documentary. The main narrative of the movie was these two guys who were like in their early twenties, Maybe late twenties. And they were talking about like, You know, How everybody in this town just stays and they want to like go out and do stuff. And the whole thing was like, Don't get married. That's a trap. It was the seventies and they made a plan like halfway through the movie to go to the train station and get a train. And they were like, In like 10 hours, You can be 2000 miles from here, You know? And and they were like, We're going to do that. And then one of them went to the train station, Spoiler alert. One of them went to the train station, The other one didn't. And and I was like, Yeah, When I was like, I totally realized when I was younger, Like, Oh yeah, You can just, It's really not that big of a deal. Like once you're 18 and like, You can do whatever you want, You know, It doesn't cost that much money to go to the Dominican Republic for months, You know? So yeah. Yeah. So, Yeah. You know, And I'm being exposed over here to people who live like that, You know, It's really cool over here because I mean, There's a definitely a strong indigenous population in my area, But there's also a lot of expats, You know, There's a lot of expatriates from all different countries all around the world. And there are many different situations, You know, So some of them, Like, Some of them are younger and they live different lifestyles. You know, Like I'm talking to these people that are, You know, Late twenties, Early thirties, And they're talking to me about their lives and they're like, Yeah, You know, I was, You know, I was in Europe for a while and then I, And I was surfing over there and then I decided to, You know, Make some soap. And so I was selling some soap and that helped out. And then I, You know, And then I met a girl from there and then we came over here and then we're in Thailand for a while and it's like, What, Huh? You did, You're doing what? You did, You've been where? It's like, It's so cool to meet. I don't know. Like, I mean, When you meet somebody my age or older that's doing it or that has done it, There is an aspect of them being older and it's like, Oh, Okay, You've lived an interesting life, You know, Good for you. But when you meet younger people doing it, You're like, They're, They didn't live one. They're living one. Like they're, They're doing this at young ages and they're having so many experiences and experiences and places and cultures expand your mind, You know? And I just think it's such a wonderful thing. I know it's not for everyone, But boy, For the people that it is for, What, What a wonderful experience that they're having. On the other side of that, I produced a high school entrepreneurship challenge today where the where they were getting like top prize was like $5, 000 in scholarship money. And the bottom prize was a thousand dollars in scholarship money. So everybody was, Everybody was great. And they were, And these kids were like, The winning kid was 14 and developed a new tech company that was phenomenal. And he was like, He had a bow tie on and he was so well-spoken and he like, And I was just like, Man, That, First of all, That made me feel old. Cause I, Cause I'm more than twice his age, You know? And and it's funny because one of the sponsors were a bunch of people from a, From a group called millennial Rhode Island. And all of us looked like dinosaurs to these kids, You know? And and I thought that that was hilarious and it was, They were so professional, All five of the participants that, That did it today, They were so professional. They were so like, They, They felt like adults to me more than I do, Which was really interesting. And so I think it's, I think like it's, It's really cool to see all versions of what the experience is. You know what I mean? Yeah. And I think that's a, That's a good example of, You know, That I have yet to hear of a generation that doesn't worry about the generation that follows them. It's never happened. Every since the beginning of time, Everybody looks at kids and goes, These damn kids, You know, That's what they do. So but of course it's no different in this day and age. But I mean, I think that, You know, A lot of times we look at kids and the problems and the learning curves that they have and their, Their generation. And we go, Oh my God, These kids, They don't do what we did and all that stuff. And it's like, But what you saw today was kids that were aligned with something they found interesting, Something they had enthusiasm for something that they were invested in, You know, And that's not a generational thing. That is a human being thing. That's a spiritual being thing. When you are aligned with, You know, With something that you have interest with, With something that you are invested in, You, You care about it and you're putting effort towards it and you want to, You know, You, You want to give your best to it. Like that's your best comes out. Of course your best isn't going to come out when you're sitting on your butt playing video games all day, You know, But you, You know, That's not, It's not a problem with the kids. It's, It's a problem with aligning them with what brings them joy, You know, And when, And there's nothing wrong. I get very excited, You know, And I work with kids and I get very excited for what our future holds because I love the way they think. I love the way they look at the world. I love their enthusiasm. And I, I think I can't wait to see what future they build. It's bound to be better than this. I mean, We really haven't done a bang up job, Especially to be criticizing others that haven't even had a chance yet. We're over here going, Oh, We're much better. Look at the world you live in. Like what do you mean we're much better? Let's lighten up a little bit and maybe we can give them a chance. And all of that being said you know, You also like the other day when we were talking, You were talking about your own son, How he's like really into being like an adult and like a man now and never like every new responsibility that comes his way. He's like, No problem. Got it. You know, And how cool that is. It's amazing, You know, And it's because, You know, From, From my perspective, Like I saw, You know, I don't, I hate to criticize things publicly, But I don't like the way the school system is set up. You know, The changes, Not all the changes, But some of the changes I really don't, I've never been a big fan of school anyway, But like the biggest problem I see with my son was that, You know, They, They like, You don't do a paper and then turn it in and get a grade. You turn, You do a paper just to, And, And my son's intelligent, Which is another word for manipulative. If somebody is intelligent, They manipulate situations for their benefit. It's it's what they do. You know, I did it and he did it. And he learned really quickly at a young age that you just turn something in that's crap and you don't get in trouble. And then the teacher lays out what your corrections are. And then you just follow their instructions and they tell you what to do differently. So you don't have to think. You just do what they tell you and then you turn it in again. And then they give you a little better grade and then they say to do this and then you get the paper back and then you do that. And eventually you get a good grade and they'll just keep giving you tries until you do that. Now, You know, Maybe that's not supposed to be the system. Maybe there's some other mindset behind the system, Whatever. That's what happened. And he got used to not doing his best at things because of that. He never applied himself to stuff. You know, Fortunately he had some opportunities to apply himself on the soccer field, But he never applied himself to doing things. And because he didn't experience the joy of applying himself and the self pride that comes with it and stuff like that. So, You know, Fast forward to now him being an adult and he's out in the work world. Like he doesn't have a choice. Like you go do your damn work, You know? And all of a sudden he's like allowing himself to apply himself. It doesn't even matter what he's applying himself to. Doesn't even matter if he likes his job. He's just getting the feeling of putting effort forth and doing something well. And that exchange of energy feels so good. His self pride is just shooting through the roof and he's just capable of everything. You know, As a parent, You always know that your kid's capable of amazing things. All kids are, But when it's your kid, You can really see it, You know? So you're like, Oh my God, They can do so much and they don't even know. And then when you see them blossoming and opening and doing it and you're like, Yes, This is what I was trying to tell you. You know, It's exciting. So yeah, It's wonderful seeing him participate in his own life and just blow the doors off and be able to handle just like anything that life throws at him. He's amazing. Hey, Speaking of what I think, This is perfect. We're talking about adults and kids. That's my niece, Kelsey. So to me, She's a kid, But she's an adult now. We have one last question. Cindy says, I have a question about forgiving and moving on. I'm trying to resolve problems with a family member that took my mom's inheritance and clays my mom gave it to her. I'm wanting to forgive her, But it's so hard. We're talking on the phone. She is willing to talk. How do I approach this? She's not owning it and making excuses. Uh, Well, I mean, If you want to forgive somebody, You have to, You have to base your forgiveness on your perspective, Not their actions or their perspective. That's the only real true forgiveness. People think they need somebody to take responsibility for something so they can forgive them, But that's not true because if that was the only way to forgive people, 90% of the stuff that happened on this planet, We could never forgive. And then what would we, Everybody would be walking around with resentments, Just horrible. We would not be in control of our own happiness. So that's not the system. That's not how it works. You know, We have to understand that forgiveness comes from us, Through us, For us. It has nothing to do with the other person. You know, Forgiveness is not about saying what they did was right. It's not about saying that they shouldn't have any consequences for what they do. It's not about saying that I want to be best friends with you again. It's not about any of that. Forgiveness is just about, Whenever I say it this way, It's interesting because to me, Forgiveness and acceptance are basically the same thing because forgiveness is not wishing that the past was different. I heard Oprah say that once and I said, Isn't that interesting? Because that's the exact same thing I say about acceptance. Forgiveness is not wishing the past was different or the present for that matter. You know, Forgiveness is the same thing. So it's letting go of the wish that something else had happened and just accepting the reality that whatever did happen, Did happen. Doesn't mean you have to like it. Doesn't mean you condone it. Doesn't mean you wish it to happen again. It just means that you accept the reality that it happened and you let go of the resistance thinking that it shouldn't have happened. That's all it is. That's all forgiveness is, You know? And then that frees you up. And then once you're free, Whether they acknowledge it, Whether it gives some of the money comes back, Whether it doesn't, That's all external. So I think somebody just put within. So yeah, It's all within. Everything that we need to live a peaceful, Happy life is contained within us. It's accessible within us. Anything external is not required. So for them to acknowledge it or for some money to come back or whatever, That's external. We have no control over it. So therefore it's not required for our peace and our happiness or our forgiveness. Awesome. All right, Man. Well, I hope that helps. I do too.
