I've had it in France for a long time.
Yes,
Yes,
Yes,
Yes.
Of the former colonies,
Yeah.
So that is what a wrong perception of Eastern wisdom says.
Eastern wisdom always focus on the right knowledge.
So when we say talk about the right knowledge,
We say that right knowledge is always present,
Whether it is past or present or the future.
So you see that when we talk about it,
And I normally talk that Eastern wisdom is 6000 years old,
We have 3000 masters and 3000 texts.
So the masters in every text declare that don't believe that a teacher is teaching.
That is not important.
It is not important that it is 6000 years old tradition.
What is most important that the truth is spoken there.
The truth is spoken there.
So it is that is the beauty of the Eastern wisdom.
You see that you say you have found the truth.
Yes.
Are you in a state of permanent peace and happiness?
Yes.
Did you discover that?
Through all the books,
Don't create any cult and dogma and belief and religion.
Our masters have been so,
So open,
Straightforward.
So normally what happens that you know,
And that people stick to one text,
And then they say,
Okay,
Then they create a cult and dogma and belief.
That is an insert to the teachings of the Eastern wisdom.
They say whether,
When it is spoken,
In which book it is spoken,
Who spoke is not important.
What is very important is the truth.
And what is the truth that that is beyond the time or that is present in the past,
In the future,
In the present,
That is beyond the location.
That is beyond the Himalayas in the terrain.
So after seeing this,
They explain that these masters say that,
Find out there are only two things in the world.
What are these two things?
One is the matter and other is the consciousness.
Whether I say there is a smart remote or my computer or my house or my car,
Essentially,
They all are made up of the matter.
Essentially,
What is not me is made up of the matter.
What is seen in the world?
I see your body,
You see my body,
Body is also made up of the matter.
That is the,
They say only two things and the other is consciousness.
And the other is consciousness,
So consciousness manifests life.
It means all living beings have consciousness,
But they do not have a proper instrument to manifest.
You give the human five sense organs of the human to an aunt,
They will also start expressing themselves.
So they say where the consciousness is the life is manifesting.
So one is consciousness and other is matter.
Now they go further.
They say the matter is inert.
Science also says matter is inert,
But our masters,
They take one step more.
They say just see the attributes of the consciousness.
Because our goal is to find our true nature.
So what they say?
So just see that,
Ask the matter,
Ask your right hand,
I see my right hand,
But does the right hand say that I also see you?
No,
It doesn't say.
Why it doesn't say?
Because it is matter.
So what are the characteristics of matter?
The matter does not know itself.
The remote does not know itself,
One characteristic in the second,
This remote does not know me.
So all the matters have the same characteristics,
Whether it is body,
Whether it is remote,
Whether it is my house,
Your house,
Your computer,
My computer,
Where we are virtually talking to each other.
But the moment we say consciousness,
I am consciousness.
So I know myself and I know you.
You see the second factor.
So now comes,
I know you as a human being.
Human being,
But the mind says,
Our master says,
Don't go outside.
Find out who you are.
What is your true nature?
When you say,
I know you,
There are two things,
I and you.
So because your goal is to find the real self,
So see that who you are.
Now come back,
Am I the body?
No.
Body is a matter.
Am I the breath?
No.
Am I the mind?
No.
I always say I possess mind,
I possess intellect.
It means mind and the intellect are my possessions.
I am not the body and the mind.
And then who am I?
And then who am I?
So ultimately,
We step back,
You know,
To get success in the material world,
You have to step forward through your mind and intellect and ego,
You gain prestige,
You gain recognition,
You work hard and you get money.
But in meditation,
We step back,
Step by step from the body,
From the world to the body,
From the body to the breath,
From breath to the mind,
From mind to the intellect,
From intellect to the ego,
And the ultimate source we find,
It is pure consciousness.
And that is our true nature.
Can consciousness be divided?
No.
One characteristic of the truth is it cannot be divided.
That is what we have seen in the last four years.
The truth has been altered.
We started using alternative facts.
It cannot happen.
The truth remains same.
It remains undivided.
Truth is of the nature of the knowledge.
So we say,
Our Master says that this truth is of the nature of the knowledge.
The Master says,
Consciousness,
Either you say consciousness plus knowledge,
Or you say that very knowledge is consciousness.
So they say our real nature is of the nature of consciousness,
Knowledge.
A beautiful statement comes from the Upanishads.
They say,
Satyam jnanam anam tam brahma,
My real self is truth.
It is infinite and it is knowledge.
So because if the consciousness does not have that right knowledge,
If it is not all-pervading,
If it is not truth,
Then it has no value,
Then it becomes a part of the world,
Then it can be divided.
So what we say that our truth,
That real nature,
Discovery of that real nature is the goal of meditation,
Mindfulness,
Yoga,
Mantra,
Tantra.
Leave aside those,
You know,
The tricks and the magics people like to play and demonstrate and to show.
That is a very lower level of the teaching.
Even the Buddha says,
Know thyself.
He said only one knows thyself.
Buddha was inclined towards all these practices and he was the only son prince of his father,
King.
So he said,
The father said to ask the Buddha,
Now is the time to become a king and I want to retire.
So Buddha said,
I am ready to be the king provided if I do not become old.
Tell me,
If I become a king,
Can you be sure that I should not become old?
That I should not become old,
I should not become sick,
I should not die.
So his father said,
What a crazy question.
Son said,
Buddha said,
It is not crazy,
It is the reality.
Why should I take any action in my life that does not help me to reach to the truth?
So that was one interaction between Buddha and his father.
Even though he married,
He had a son and one day he said there is nothing in it and he left and ultimately he reached to that state of the mindfulness.
Now see that there is another way to understand this process.
We say just think of it,
Waking state,
Dream state and sleeping state.
Now say pay attention,
We experience pain and pleasure,
Sorrow and happiness in waking state and in dream state.
But do we experience pain and suffering in sleeping state?
No.
No,
There is only one state in the deep state of the sleep that is peace,
That is calmness,
That is happiness.
So in a waking state,
The mind is active,
In a dream state,
The mind is active,
In sleep state,
The mind,
The sleep state is going beyond the mind,
Mind doesn't,
We go beyond the body and the mind.
So from there our masters concluded that how we can transcend the mind in a conscious state.
So two things emmers out of it,
It means all meditation and mindfulness practice should be done in a waking state.
If I become lazy,
If my mind have a sleepiness,
That is an obstacle,
If the mind is distracted,
That too is a problem of in meditation.
So just see that,
Imagine,
Think of it,
Reflect.
In sleep state normally I don't experience,
In deep sleep I'm talking of the deep sleep,
That is what the real sleep state.
I don't experience any pain in the suffering.
Why?
Because I transcend the body and I transcend the mind.
But I experience duality,
Opposing pain and pleasure and sorrow in the happiness,
Hate and the love,
All either in a waking state or in a dream state,
That is because of the mind.
So if I understand the nature of the mind,
Then I can easily enter into a mindfulness or meditative state.
Enter into a mindfulness or meditative state.
You see how they arrived at step by step conclusion.
Now mind,
So you have heard from me couple of times,
That this mind,
If we transcend the mind in a waking state,
That is known as Turiya,
The fourth state of the consciousness,
There are three states of the mind,
Waking,
Dream,
Sleep and the fourth state is known as Turiya,
Fourth state of meditation.
Turiya simply means the fourth state that transcends the mind and the fourth state is known as the state of pure consciousness and once the mind lives into that,
Reflects that,
We say we are in the state of meditation,
We are in the state of higher state of mindfulness.
But it is the same mind that causes the problem.
Which mind?
Same mind.
Why mind causes the problem?
Because mind has created so many wrong notions and what are the wrong notions?
Pleasure happiness.
See one example of pleasure happiness.
I eat pasta because I like pasta,
Because I like pasta it gives me happiness,
But when I eat pasta daily that happiness,
Pleasure,
Goes on decreasing and if you give me pasta only every day in breakfast,
Lunch and dinner,
Even if I like pasta it does not give me pleasure.
But then what happens?
The mind creates a habit or attitude and that it means what is that habit?
The mind is seeking the pleasure and the happiness from the person,
From the people,
From the objects and location that distracts the mind,
That causes the impurity in the mind.
So until the mind that is running outside is distraction,
The mind obsessed with something outside,
It is still running outside,
That is another state of the mind.
So until the mind changes itself with the right understanding,
With the right knowledge,
With the clarity and conviction,
Then the mind is ready to move inside and it helps us to enter into a meditative state.
And that leads to mindfulness and meditation.
But what happens?
People say focus on the breath and you will go into meditation.
Without understanding how can you enter into meditation?
Without having your address,
I understand where is your address?
Your address is in New Jersey,
In Princeton,
In this tree,
This is the number.
Now I understand so my mind can help me reach to that exact location.
So people normally go without that understanding what exactly is meditation.
As if meditation is a material activity,
Close your eyes,
Focus on the breath,
Chant this mantra,
Stand on your head,
Stretch your right leg over your left leg,
Uh,
Neck and you will be meditating.
Some people say without practicing postures you cannot enter into a lot of wrong notions.
But once we have a clarity,
We understand here is the right path,
Then we can enter into mindfulness easily.
So after having that basic understanding,
We can say moving the mind within from outside to inside means I leave the matter.
Living within,
Consciously living within,
Mind is living with the mind itself without any object and that leads to awakening.
What happens in mindfulness?
We awaken to the knowledge of the reality.
Reality.
Let us start our practice of meditation.
Now eyes are closed and simply eyes are closed.
Sit in any posture that you like,
Easy and comfortable.
Just eyes are closed.
Any posture,
Any position of the body that is comfortable,
Will adjust and align the body to remove any discomfort and unease in the body.
Close your eyes gently without any pressure.
So,
Experience,
Look at the body mentally or become aware of the body.
Become aware of the body and see the body is steady now and the mind is facing within.
Where?
Mind is facing either inside the head or the heart.
Where?
In the space.
Why the space?
What we are searching?
We are searching the self that is all pervading and the space is all pervading.
So we are educating the mind.
Mind,
See the space so that you have an idea what the self looks like.
Become aware of any point in the space and remain there.
How simple it is.
Now being comfortable,
So we settle the mind to avoid any distraction.
See that,
To avoid any distraction that is why we want to be comfortable.
How?
Look at the neck joint.
So we return to the space again and again.
Why?
The mind returns to the object of the world again and again to seek the pleasure.
Result is pain.
So why not we ask the mind to return again and again to the space.
So look at the head and the neck.
Now look at the neck joint.
Be there,
Feel,
When you feel the sensation you experience the comfortable and the steadiness.
Looking at the shoulder joint.
Be there,
Feel the sensation.
Being comfortable and steadiness.
And what is above,
What is deeper than comfortable sensation and steadiness.
The mind navigates easily and becomes aware of the space within.
See that,
That helps the mind to move within.
Move the mind on the hip joint.
Be there,
Feel the sensation,
Experience the comfort and steadiness.
Simple.
I'm not guiding or giving any instructions that cause any confusion and a conflict.
What is conflict and confusion?
Absence of knowledge.
That is why we discuss before any practice of meditation.
So look at all the joints of the body from the neck joint,
Shoulders,
Elbows,
Wrist,
Fingers,
Hip,
Knees,
Ankles,
Toes,
Entire body.
And experience sensation being comfortable and steadiness.
Now,
Being carefree.
How simple it is being carefree.
Thoughts are coming,
Let it come.
Going,
Let it go.
Staying,
Let it stay.
That is like a traffic on the highway.
You are standing across the road.
What it means?
Mental traffic inside your head.
Thoughts are coming,
Going,
Staying,
Need not to do anything.
You simply watch.
Why you watch?
The moment you watch,
You separate yourself from all the thoughts that are entering,
Coming,
Going in the mind.
In the mind,
That is the state of being carefree.
There,
See that how easy,
How simple it is?
And then we move to the next step that is being casual and natural.
What is being casual and natural?
Somewhere deep inside the mind experiences totally a state of naturalness.
What is that naturalness?
In the state of being natural,
I remains I,
You remain you.
You,
Not swayed by any feeling,
Emotion,
Thoughts.
How come?
The way water remains water,
Whether it has waves or it does not have any wave.
No,
No,
But wave,
You see the mind asked the question,
But wave is also a water,
Flood is also a water,
So the essential nature of a water does not change.
Same way,
When we experience that something within us does not change,
Even if the mind becomes the wave or the flood,
That is being natural.
How simple it is.
And now we go to the next step.
So because the mind has a tendency to run outside seeking pleasure by habit,
Unconsciously,
Impulsively,
Instinctively,
It has created trillions of impressions.
A single impression destroys the meditative state.
But if we settle the body and the energy completely,
Then what happens?
The mind does not trigger the body and the prana.
So what we do?
Let us look at the head and the neck.
Looking means the mind is going there,
Where?
On the head and the neck.
What it is doing?
It is simply looking,
It is aware,
It is feeling.
So what it is feeling?
It is experiencing sensation,
Relaxation and stillness.
The mind is now going to the right arm from the shoulder to the fingertips.
It is touching,
It is looking,
It is there and experience sensation,
Relaxation and stillness.
I didn't understand that.
The mind going to the left arm,
Let the mind touch every cell of the skin of the left.
Why we are doing it?
When we become aware,
Those moments of the instinct,
The habits and trigger in the mind comes down,
Result is sensation,
Relaxation and stillness.
The mind is looking at the middle portion of the body from the shoulder to the wrist,
The entire rib cage,
Belly and the spine,
The middle portion of the body.
Be there and experience sensation,
Relaxation and stillness.
Now move the mind on the right leg.
Be there,
Awareness,
Feeling,
Experience sensation,
Relaxation and stillness.
Mind goes to the left leg,
Be there,
Feel sensation,
Relaxation and stillness.
Moving within,
Look at the entire body from the top of the head to the toes.
Mind looking the entire body from the top of the head to the toes.
Very good.
And be there,
Feeling the sensation,
Relaxation and stillness.
See that?
So this is what we say the moving within.
Very good.
Now living within.
Now living within,
So mind can only live within if it discovers.
What it discovers?
If it discovers calmness and quietness.
Very good.
Let us go for it.
So look at the head and the neck.
Very good.
You are looking at the head and the neck.
Now what is outside?
Outside is sensation,
Relaxation and stillness.
And then look inside the head and the neck.
Just be there.
So when you are there,
What do we find?
We find,
What do we find?
We find inside only the space and the sensation and that space and the sensation is nothing but the sensation is calmness and the space is quietness inside.
That is how we understand this.
Same way,
Look at the right arm outside.
So outside body is a matter,
But still because it lives with the consciousness.
So when we look at the body outside,
We find this right arm.
We find there is a sensation,
Relaxation and stillness.
Very good.
Now in that state,
Look inside the right arm.
Be there.
So what do we find inside?
Inside,
We find the space and the sensation,
Calmness and quietness.
Very good.
So in that state,
Look at the left arm.
When you look at the left arm,
You are there,
You find,
What do we find?
We find the outside is the sensation,
Relaxation and stillness and inside we find the sensation and calmness and quietness.
Simple.
Look at the middle portion of the body.
Looking at the middle portion of the body outside.
You see that?
Even if we look at any dress material that is made up of the cotton and if we look deeply,
We find it is made up of a thin wire-like thread,
Every cotton,
Every cloth.
So that is what happens when we see inside the mind.
That mind looks at only what it looks.
It looks at the calmness.
It looks at calmness and quietness.
Look at the right leg from outside.
Sensation,
Relaxation and stillness and inside.
Calmness and quietness.
Just be very clear about the knowledge that we discussed and that is what is happening now.
So right leg outside is sensation,
Relaxation and stillness and inside.
Look at the left leg outside.
Look at the left leg outside.
Sensation,
Relaxation and stillness and then look inside.
Calmness and quietness.
Now look at the left leg outside.
Look at the left leg outside.
Calmness and quietness.
Now ask the mind,
Is calmness and quietness caused by any object that I like or dislike?
Does that calmness caused by eating pasta,
The food or the food that I like?
No,
No object is there and still we are calm and quiet.
You see this needs to be fed to the mind as in knowledge.
Knowledge happens in awareness when the mind is living within and it is happening in awareness.
The mind then knows why I should always move my mind within,
To live within,
To discover that calmness and quietness.
The entire body from the top of the head to the toes.
Outside sensation,
Relaxation and stillness and inside.
Calmness and quietness.
In that state of sensation,
Relaxation,
Stillness outside and calmness and quietness inside.
You are a waker at this time but little deeper than the waker.
What is waker?
A waking state.
So we see the world outside is different from me.
The world outside the feeling,
Thoughts,
Objects,
All is taking place in the waking state.
But I am totally dissociated,
Unattached with whatever is happening in the world,
In the body,
In the breath,
In the mind.
The waker,
The waking state where the mind attach ourselves with objects outside.
So remain as you are,
Live consciously,
Separating the world is outside and I am inside.
So we are stepping back from the waking state that identifies itself with the body,
Breath,
Mind,
Intellect,
Thought,
Pain,
Pleasure,
Problems,
Suffering.
So in one,
One master says that in that state when the mind is living within,
Imagine in the mind and see as if the body and the mind is sleeping in deep sleep.
But you are aware the body and the mind is sleeping.
You are aware.
Why?
You are neither the body,
You are not the mind.
How simple it is to know and understand that.
Just imagine,
Mentally see and feel and imagine the body is sleeping deeply and the mind is also sleeping.
If any thought comes,
No worries.
You simply become aware,
Mind is sleeping,
Okay,
Body is sleeping,
But you are awake.
When we follow this step of imagination of a sleep of the body and the mind regularly for three and four weeks awakening takes place,
That is one method.
And now look at the breath.
Follow the three-pointed awareness of the breath.
The breath is going in and out.
You're feeling the sensation.
You're not changing the rate and the rhythm of the breath.
Simple three-pointed awareness of the breath.
You're just a weirdness of the breath.
Three-pointed awareness that helps the mind to continue to live within,
Look within and in the state of a dispassion.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Bring your mind to the right hand,
Your mind to the left hand.
Lift your boot,
The palms,
Place it on your eyes,
Open the eyes inside the palms.
Now bring the hands down.
We will share our experiences now.
How are you?
I feel good and quiet.
Quiet,
Yes.
Yes.
You see that the more and more we need to contemplate and reflect,
What is the point of reflection?
Is that,
You know,
Just today's talk,
Waker,
I'm in a waking state.
So I say I am a Waker.
Means what?
The moment I am in a waking state,
I identify myself with the body,
With the mind,
With the objects of the world outside.
So let me become aware.
Drop the identification.
So when I drop the identification,
The mind cannot run after any object for pleasure or pain,
Sorrow for happiness.
So what happens?
That mind steps back.
World outside,
Step back,
Body,
Step back,
Mind,
Step back.
Pure consciousness,
We are in the state of meditation.
This is what happens in meditation.
Easy to understand.
