Meditation is a powerful antidote to fear and depression. It is also helpful to quiet the everyday clutter of your mind. Mindful meditation is an awareness of the breath that stills the mind into the present moment. Georgiana Lotfy has studied and practiced meditation for over 25 years and uses these meditations as stress reduction tools in her work with adolescents and adults.

This is a meditation designed to open you to life's pace.

Start by sitting,

Straightening your back,

Putting feet on the floor in a comfortable position.

I invite you to make yourself comfortable whether you're sitting or lying down.

Find what's best for you and settle into that position.

I invite you to close your eyes if you're comfortable with your eyes closed.

This is a meditation of opening yourself to life's pace.

Begin by focusing on your breath.

Your breath is an important gateway into each present moment.

Your breath is the will of God.

Breathe in a natural fashion at your own pace,

Your own natural breath.

Focus on your breath.

Follow your breath in a natural fashion.

Focusing just on your breath,

Notice the brief pause between your breaths.

Notice the pause between your breaths as you inhale and exhale.

Notice the time it takes to pause between each breath.

Notice the pause.

Notice the end of one breath and the beginning of the next.

Notice as the breath stops and begins again.

Notice the breath as it pauses for this briefest time,

This brief time between each breath,

The power of each new breath beginning again.

Follow for a minute your inhale and exhale.

With no rush or attempt to change your breath,

Follow your breath at your breath's pace.

If you are having thoughts,

Know that you're having thoughts,

But know that you do not have to follow your thoughts.

Let your thoughts go like clouds in the sky as you refocus again on your breath.

More than thoughts,

You are breath,

The universe breathing through you.

Breathe,

Breath,

Breathe.

We'll take a journey into that place of your higher consciousness,

That space where the divine lives in you,

Your very best self.

This may be a place modeled after a divinity such as Buddha,

Jesus,

Mother Mary,

Or Krishna,

Or a place within your own heart where your light shines true and clear,

Where you are one with all there is,

Where you know in a very deep place to trust the universe,

The divinity of all that there is.

In this place,

You know the very best there is to know of yourself in total light and harmony,

In total love and unity with all.

Listen in awe to the stillness within you for a moment and rest in the deep being of this knowing deep within yourself.

This stillness in this place of all spiritual love.

Spiritual love recognizes the pace of your life is never just your own.

Your life is in harmony with all.

Your life is in unity with all.

In glorious harmony and unity,

You are not alone.

There is an entire symphony that supports your desires in ways unknown to you.

The plan of the universe,

The plan of divinity,

Unfolds for your illumination at a pace and harmony with all that there is.

Often in ways you might not imagine,

But what you are given on this path of life is the divine way for you.

The invitation to be with the light of the universe.

In every breath you take,

Love is there.

In your darkest moments or your highest triumphs,

Love is there.

Rest in this journey,

Allowing,

Accepting,

Accepting the grace of each of your feelings,

Allowing and accepting the unfolding of you at the pace that the divine is providing for you.

Breathe this in.

Trust that the universe and the power of great love provides the rest and the movement that is best for your unfolding.

Rest in the knowledge and the wisdom of all love and all divine light working in harmony with you with each breath.

Rest in the wisdom that all things are working in harmony for you.

When you are ready,

Begin to come back into your body and feel your body lying or sitting.

When you are ready and you hear the bell,

Open your eyes and come back into the space of your room.
