Transcript
You are invited to use this meditation when going to bed and also if you awaken in the night and want to return to sleep.
I suggest that you set an alarm for your wake up time.
Please do not listen to this meditation if you are operating heavy machinery like an automobile or if you need to be alert shortly after listening to this meditation.
I invite you now to begin the process of settling into your bed.
At this moment you are not called to do anything.
There's nothing to do but to rest your body.
The day is done.
Complete relaxation is the object of this meditation.
To rest and relax in the heavenly peace of our Lord's embrace.
You will become very quiet and at peace with all as you listen to this meditation and sleep may follow.
Know that in case of emergency you will be able to come to full attention from your restful state.
I invite you now to turn your attitude of I must sleep to an attitude of how wonderful it is to lie down at the end of the day.
How wonderful it is to stop all activity and to rest.
We walk upright all day caring for ourselves and others and now it is time to care for yourself.
It is time for you to relax your body and be nourished by this resting.
Now it is time to stop all that has occupied your mind and body.
Take a moment to focus on your body,
This wondrous body that God has given you.
Take a moment to focus on the breath that God has given you.
It's time to give your body this peaceful break.
Give yourself the gift of resting,
Of resting while lying down.
You are lying down on your cozy bed.
Your head is on the pillow.
Arrange yourself in a comfortable position.
Notice the comfort of the sheets touching your body,
The softness of the blanket on your skin.
Notice the place where your head is supported by your pillow.
Notice how comfortable it feels to be lying in this position.
There may be a fragrant aroma in your bedroom or place of rest.
Breathe this in.
Notice your body as it becomes more comfortable lying down after your day.
Relax any part of your body where there might be tension and is uncomfortable.
Notice your breath.
As you inhale,
Breathe God's love to the area of tension.
And as you exhale,
Breathe out tension.
Let tension melt into the bed.
Inhale peace.
And on your exhale,
Exhale tension.
Muscles unwind.
Muscles relax into the comfort of your bed.
Paying attention to your neck,
Your back,
The position of your legs,
And the position of your hands.
If there are sounds in your environment,
Let these sounds become background for my voice and come back to my voice.
If there are places where you experience discomfort or a place of tension or pain in your body,
Let this tension relax into your bed.
Let this tension melt into your bed as you breathe in and breathe out.
Pay attention to the muscles of your neck and let these muscles unwind like string coming off a spool of thread onto the pillow.
Now let go of tension in your jaw.
Let your mouth open gently,
Releasing your lips and jaw.
Let your cheeks become soft and the muscles around your cheekbones relax.
Gently relax all parts of your body,
Your neck,
Your back,
Your spine,
Your torso.
Relax your hips,
Your legs.
Relax totally your body.
Breathing softly.
Breathing your inhale,
The place where breath goes in your body,
And your exhale.
Notice the space between your breaths.
Notice your inhale,
The place where you take in your breath,
The place where you feel your breath arriving,
And the exhale.
Notice the pause between the breaths.
Now focus on your eyes.
It's time to let your eyes become soft and sleepy.
Feeling all tension in and around your eyelids and softening the space around your eyes.
You have sleepy eyelids that are heavy and peacefully closed.
Relax your eyebrows and the space between your eyebrows.
Focus next on your cheekbones and the area between your cheekbones and your mouth.
Relax all the muscles of your face.
Gently let your jaw drop open as you relax in and around your mouth.
Now pay attention to your hands and open the fingers of each hand and allow relaxation to flow through each finger.
Allow relaxation to flow through each finger of your right hand.
Then allow relaxation to flow through each finger of your left hand.
Each finger is totally relaxed.
Now in this resting place,
I invite you to find the quiet place in your mind.
At this moment,
You are not called to do anything.
There's nothing to do but to rest your body.
The day is done.
Sweet relaxation is the object of this meditation.
To rest and relax in the heavenly peace of our Lord's embrace.
With every breath,
You let go of the day.
You let go of your thoughts.
Your thoughts become slower as you sweep away all thoughts that remain of the day and rest into this very moment.
Breathe in peace and breathe out thoughts.
If thoughts of tomorrow come into your mind,
Know that tomorrow will come and trust God loves you and those you love today and will love and care for you tomorrow.
Take a moment to further quiet your mind.
Just as you turned off the lights in your home.
Now slowly in your mind,
Turn off the lights of your mind.
One by one.
In all the spaces.
And as you do this,
Your thoughts become slower.
And your thoughts relax into the comfort of your pillow.
Notice your breath slowing as you rest your mind.
Inhale and exhale.
Your breath becomes slow and gentle.
There is nothing to do.
You are resting peacefully.
Breathing softly.
Noticing your inhale.
The place where breath goes in your body and your exhale.
Notice the space between your breaths.
Notice your inhale.
The place where you take in your breath.
The place where you feel your breath arriving.
And the exhale.
Notice the pause between the breaths.
Notice your inhale.
The place where you take in your breath.
The place where you feel your breath arriving.
And the exhale.
Notice the pause between the breaths.
Notice your inhale.
The place where you take in your breath.
The place where you feel the breath arriving and the exhale.
Notice the pause between breaths.
Notice your inhale.
And your exhale.
Notice the space between your breaths where one breath stops and the next breath begins.
Notice your inhale.
The place where you take in your breath.
The place where you feel the breath arriving and your exhale.
Notice the pause between breaths.
Notice your inhale.
Notice the pause between breaths.
Breathing in this manner relaxes your body.
And as you breathe deeply of the moment,
You breathe in the miracle of this life.
Breathing in this manner relaxes your body.
And as you breathe deeply of this moment,
You breathe in the miracle of this life,
Of this peace,
Of this peaceful moment.
For some,
It helps to remember a beautiful place where you feel totally at peace.
This may be a special place in your home or a memory of a place where you have visited.
Just in the peace of your special place.
Surrounded by love and light.
Quietly in its beauty,
Breathing in the peace of this moment.
Surrounded by God's love resting deeply into this moment.
In this place,
You know you are loved.
You are safe.
You are loved.
Just in this place of God's love.
Totally relaxed.
Feeling the moment and the embrace of our Creator who holds us close as we sleep.
You are a child of God in the arms of God.
Resting safely in this embrace.
Take a deep breath as you inhale and exhale.
Resting now.
Your thoughts are slow and light.
The only movement is the soft inhale and exhale of your breath in your body.
Softly.
Slowly.
Inhale.
And exhale.
I pray that Jesus shines his face upon this house tonight.
That I am kept in Jesus' peace throughout the night.
I pray that God's light shines on me and on those I love.
Release my thoughts to your goodness.
Rest in me and keep me in your peace.
Hold my hand throughout the night.
You may fall into sleep or continue in this restful state.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Peacefully.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Sleep.
Sleep in the heavenly peace of slumber.
Sleep in the heavenly peace of God's love.
Sleep.
In the heavenly peace of slumber.
You may fall into sleep or continue in this restful state.
Quiet and steady.
Sleep.
Sleep in the heavenly peace of slumber.
Sleep in the heavenly peace of God's love.
Sleep in the heavenly peace of God's love.
Sleep.
Sleep.
Sleep.
Breathing in and breathing out.
In.
Out.
In.
Out.
Resting deeply through hours of peaceful sleep.
Resting deeply and peacefully while you nourish and refresh your body.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Resting.
Resting.
Resting.
