We have basically two choices when challenging emotions like fear or shame arise.
One of them is going to free us and one of them is going to keep us caught.
If we do the same old thing that when this inner discomfort arises,
We run to the cookie jar or we run to the bottle of wine or sex or scrolling on our phones,
We're just going to stay stuck.
That emotion is not going anywhere.
It'll keep coming back.
But if we can instead go down a different path of meeting that emotion with courage and compassion,
Running to ourselves instead of the pint of ice cream.
Then we're going to start to wake up out of our old patterns.
We're going to start to reclaim a tremendous degree of power.
And we're going to start to live much more deeply in the present moment.
And this choice is ours in every moment.
We can choose peace or we can choose pain.
