In this practice we think about the fact that each of us has unique and wonderful things about us that make us who we are. This session helps to build self-esteem and intinsic self-worth by looking at the things we like about ourselves. An optional practice is to write a letter to yourself listing some things that you like about yourself and then you can look at the letter from time to time to remind you of what a lovely person you are.

Hi,

Welcome to Peacebeam.

Let's begin.

Just make sure that you're sitting or lying down comfortably and close your eyes.

Step one,

Notice.

This is where we just begin to notice how we're feeling today.

Just ask yourself that question,

How am I today?

And just notice what comes back.

How is your mood?

Are you happy?

Are you sad?

Are you anxious?

Whatever it is,

Just notice it and let it be.

As we move to step two,

Breathe.

So just bring your attention now to your breath and just begin to notice how your breath moves in and out,

Either through your nose or through your mouth.

And if you can,

Maybe just put your hand on your chest and start to feel its natural rise and fall as your breath moves in and out.

And just be here for a couple of moments,

Simply breathing.

And now we're going to connect your breath to your heart.

And we do this by imagining that every time you breathe in,

You're breathing the air right down past your lungs and into your heart.

And when you breathe out,

It's coming out all the way up from your heart.

And the rhythm of your breath and the rhythm of your heartbeat are connecting with each other,

Saying hello to each other.

And as they do that,

They join and they create this lovely state of relaxation just for you.

And as we're in this lovely,

Still,

Relaxed place,

We move to step three,

Activate.

And today we're going to talk about all of the things that you like about yourself.

Each and every one of us has unique and wonderful things about us that make us who we are.

Sometimes we might want to be like someone else,

Perhaps because we admire them.

And if it's something that we really admire in another person,

Like kindness or generosity,

Then we can try to be kind and generous too.

But for other things like how they look or the particular talents that they have,

It's really important to remember that a daffodil and a rose or a dog and a cat are both beautiful,

Even though they look very different.

The beauty of a rose doesn't make a daffodil less beautiful,

And it's the same with us.

So now,

I want you to put your hand on your heart if you haven't done so already,

And take a few moments to think about all the things that you like about yourself.

And they can be anything.

Your smile,

Your laugh,

Your sense of humor,

Anything at all.

And now we're going to move to step four,

Peace beam.

Now that you've thought about all the things that you like about yourself,

I want you later on to write a letter to yourself as if you were writing to your best friend.

And write down all the things that you like,

Admire,

And appreciate about yourself.

And keep it somewhere safe,

So that whenever you are having a difficult day,

You can take it out and read it,

And remind yourself of who you are and how lovely you make the world.

Have a beautiful day,

We'll see you next time.
