Focus,
Attention and concentration.
During my life a good focus was everything and for many reasons.
A good focus during a training was needed to learn,
Perform and in the ring to survive.
As a man of challenge I never did choose the easy way.
As when I came across a new opportunity,
A changing possibility or whatever came by I took the chance of learning and experiencing.
For me it is a total normal to be a complete focus and of the world.
As around me I have seen the same behaviour of people really close to me.
All of my own family,
My children,
Have the same habit.
It was impossible to disturb my family members when reading,
Watching TV or any other thing they needed their concentration for.
But in the normal world I did encounter a loss of focus,
Lack of concentration and a very short attention span.
To understand it better let me first take a good look at the words as we have a need to understand them to build a final result.
A person has an attention span that is used time to keep a concentration on a topic.
The word attention refers to the time we can produce for the concentration.
Our concentration is the way that we can keep a focus on a topic.
You must use some concentration techniques to find a focus.
Finally we come to the focus which refer to a high concentration where you are disconnected from the surrounding environment and only keep the target in mind.
To understand it all even better I am going to ask you some questions and wish you to answer to yourself before moving on with this podcast.
Take your time for answering and I give you a few seconds break.
Question one.
What are the best moments to pay attention to something when you are tired or when you are fit and wide awake?
You are able to pay attention to something when you feel fit and wide awake.
This implies that to be able to pay attention to something your mind needs to be clear and if possible in a fit body.
When you are physically in a good condition you are more able to pay attention to anything of your interest.
Question two.
What will catch your attention more?
Something that is of your interest or something that does not interest you at all?
Also this question is easy to answer.
You pay attention to something of your interest much more than of something that you are not interested in.
This answer lead to the conclusion that it is often very difficult to get any attention to things that are boring,
Not of your interest or you don't like it.
When you cannot set yourself to giving a good attention to something it is hardly ever possible to focus on it.
This leads to question three.
Do you remember the last time you had a real focus on something?
What had happened at that moment?
Was it about something of your interest or did something serious happened?
This is an interesting thing.
Most people remember both events.
The focus when something serious did happen and the moment they were busy with something that made them happy and satisfied.
Here we enter the zone of possibilities and conclusions.
To have a proper attention we need something of interest.
Going from attention to concentration we also need something that is of our real deep interest.
And finally to have a good focus we again need something of our interest and in a moment of danger.
This is very interesting.
We can focus in the face of something dangerous.
From a historical point of view it is easy to explain.
To survive as a human being we needed fast reactions.
A perfect focus.
High and long concentrations.
The perfect attention for all what was dangerous for us.
This period could last from seconds to minutes but never into the hours.
That was impossible.
From this we can conclude that the standard possibility for focus,
Concentration and attention vary from person to person,
From seconds to minutes.
Only very rare people could keep a focus for hours.
These people are the perfect guards,
The hunters for large prey and the extraordinary survivors.
I followed many courses and training sessions of people teaching about concentration and focus.
They rarely mention the fact that the current person must be interested in what they do or just do not do it.
But in every job or study there are parts that do not interest you.
How can you make these topics alive in a way that they start to interest you?
The first step is to make them really alive and active.
Bringing a topic into your fantasy world.
Bring it alive.
Give it hand and feet.
Let it walk.
Understand things and connect with other things.
Just make a fairy tale or adventure story.
Do not let it be the dry and tasteless mud of knowledge or work for you.
But bring it alive with creativity,
Imagination and experience.
These are the first step to understand and next we will make a checkbox of other things you should do to create a special world of attention for you.
Our first problem is everything that takes our attention but is not worth the time we spend on it.
Most people have a constant connection with their mobile or their computer.
These things show every piece of information.
Things that keep demanding your attention or pop-ups that show you the offers that you cannot resist.
Put them out of reach.
Turn off sounds,
Buzzes or other attention demanders.
Block all pop-ups and advertisements.
Turn off social media on the computer and then stop listening to radio stations.
YouTube standard can deliver nice music but has so many pop-ups now that you better search for another background music.
If you wish music in the background,
Use old fashioned CD players,
Music players or search a continuity music station.
Try to avoid songs and keep it as instrumental as possible.
Classical music is still the favourite for most colours as it is hardly ever disturbs the mind but feeds it with more powers.
Keep the following in mind,
It is simple but clear rule of thumb.
Attention is possible to share with others and have it for each other but focus is something individual and cannot be shared with others.
The best friend of good concentration and attention is to take a rest.
Most tests on this topic show a period of 20 minutes of concentration and around 7 minutes of rest.
Rest is real rest without newspapers or any information carriers.
This also implies no chatting on your phone.
It is possible to talk to others but avoid talking about the topic of which you are working on at that moment.
Keep in mind 7 minutes is not enough for a long deep talk.
There is another hurdle on the highway of your brain power.
This is boredom with the topic of your work.
If the work has nothing to challenge you,
It becomes a routine and routine is a killer of concentration.
It is an automatic pilot of the job.
When you are bored it is easy to let the mind flow in any direction and not able to have any concentration.
The best way to build good series of attention,
Concentration and focus is by the following next guideline.
Take good care of your physical condition.
Your brain needs oxygen,
Good food and discipline to function.
Your exercise discipline by having regular daily workouts in physical and mental way.
Challenge your body and mind.
Find and mark your real interest.
Write them down and also why they are interesting for you.
Take one task each time,
Finish it and then move on.
Multitasking is no real option.
Create a work place where you are able to concentrate and focus on your task.
Do not take your personal problems into the job.
If you have problems,
Solve them first,
Otherwise you will not be able to pay full attention.
We are living in a very intensely dense information world.
Everywhere you are confronted with information,
Try to find your channels and only look around when you are free of these tasks.
Keep in mind to make yourself free of all tasks once in a few months to look around and open your mind again.
Take a break,
Take a holiday,
Take a leave,
Go.
If you want to survive,
Do not drown yourself into work because nobody,
Nobody will survive that.
Warm greetings.
