We are emotional creatures.
On any given day,
We may feel everything from happiness to surprise,
From sadness to anger.
Throughout the day,
We may feel all kinds of emotions.
There are some emotions that we all enjoy and others not so much.
Anger is one of those emotions that I'm sure many of us wish we didn't have to deal with.
But we do because anger that's not dealt with,
Anger that's not processed,
Anger that is allowed to fester can have a devastating effect on our mental and physical health.
If anger is visiting you,
I invite you to sit with it.
Don't try to repress it and pretend that you're not angry.
We sometimes do this as a defense mechanism,
But in the long run,
Whatever we resist will persist.
Besides,
All your emotions are valid,
Including anger.
Take a deep breath in and mentally tell yourself,
There's anger within me.
And when you exhale,
Say,
And that's okay.
Breathing in,
There's anger within me.
Breathing out,
And that's okay.
Try to move closer to the anger and see if there are other emotions underneath it.
Maybe fear or sadness.
Explore what is lying underneath the anger.
Stay here and see where the anger is manifesting in your body.
Is there tightness in your chest?
Or tension in your shoulders?
Relax your jaw and all your facial muscles as you continue to slow down your breathing.
Breathe into every part of your body.
Learning to be with your anger allows you to control it,
Rather than letting your anger control you.
Allow the anger that is visiting you to be a teacher.
Learn whatever it is you need to learn from this teacher,
And then make whatever changes you need to make.
Thank you for sitting with me.
See you next time.
