Hello,
My name is Tracy Seawright and I will be reading the story Detective Pancake by Tracy Seawright-Dibert.
I awoke one Sunday morning to the smell of breakfast filling the air.
I thought about my eggs and ham as I headed down the stairs.
But when I finally got there,
I was taken by surprise.
The kitchen was a mess.
Something had gone awry.
There was my plate laying as empty as can be.
No eggs,
No pancakes.
All of it was gone and it surely wasn't me.
My juice was missing as well as my cereal,
Bacon,
Grapes,
And bread.
This didn't make any sense since I had not been fed.
There my eggs were,
I saw,
Smeared upon my mother's wall and a half-eaten pancake with syrup stuck to the ceiling just about to fall.
I went to find my mother to show her this breakfast mess and to blame it on my sister Jenny and hope she would confess.
My mom came to the kitchen,
Saw what was wrong,
And stood there amazed that all the food was gone.
Remember,
Mom,
I said,
When Jenny eats,
She makes a real mess.
My mom called my sister Jenny who said in such distress,
I just got out of bed.
I didn't touch a crumb.
Don't listen to his nonsense,
Mommy.
Brothers are just dumb.
My tummy started growling at the thought of my sausages,
Eggs,
Bacon,
Waffles,
And whipped cream.
But when I looked around,
I realized now this was a crime scene.
As I stood in the kitchen not knowing what to do,
Jenny turned on the TV hoping for a clue.
News anchor Pam on Channel 2 decided to break through.
Sorry to interrupt your show,
But here's the latest brew.
A dripping of breakfast snatching has hit our tiny town.
So far not one trace of droppings can be found upon the ground.
It's a sizzling story,
Another case to crack.
The numbers are piling up,
Flipped up into a stack.
Hold on to your breakfast,
You better eat it quick.
The criminal moves so fast your eggs won't have time to stick.
Oatmeal,
Muffins,
And cereal,
It's surely clear.
You better eat your breakfast quick or your food will disappear.
Anchor Pam looked into the camera.
There's no time to contemplate.
Whatever you do,
Citizens,
Don't put down your plate.
Could this happen to someone like me?
It surely was a breakfast catastrophe.
Jumping up from the couch,
Jenny made the channel change.
There was a commercial and it looked rather strange.
There on the TV,
A face soon appeared and a hat with a trench coat,
His voice so sincere.
Your eggs are missing from your plate,
There's syrup on the wall.
If your breakfast is in crisis,
There is one name you can call.
Detect a pancakes on the scene,
It's a messy sort of crime.
But I promise to have the case solved before your dinner time.
There was the answer we had been looking for.
I grabbed my mom's phone.
I couldn't wait anymore.
There was the number 1-800-856-EATS.
I gave him a call hoping we could meet.
I gave the order measured and I poured and mixed my story out.
I am scrambled,
I am scattered.
I began to shout.
I have been battered and beaten and whipped and paraded.
My breakfast is missing.
Can you help me today?
Detective Pancake on the beat,
Slow it down,
Turn down the heat.
Set your timer,
I'm on my way.
I'm just a flip away.
Arriving in our kitchen,
His notebook in his hand,
He looked around the crime scene to find where it began.
There upon the table laid a lonely breakfast plate showing all the battered signs of what the criminal ate.
Detective Pancake investigated,
He was the one to make the call.
I think I have a lead.
There's no time to stall.
There is butter smeared on a chair,
Crumbs are scattered all about.
The kitchen door was left open and the thief has gotten out.
Detective Pancake started to bubble.
He was turning golden brown and slowly turned around.
We have something new.
We finally have a clue.
We headed to the backyard following a trail of syrup still so fresh it was sticky to the touch.
It was clear from the trail of crumbs showing what the criminal ate that he would not have room for lunch.
On the sidewalk there were even splats of breakfast grease.
Detective Pancake shook his head and said,
Wonders never cease.
Detective Pancake pointed and from behind a shaking bush I could barely make out the shape giggling on my breakfast grapes trying to escape.
Detective Pancake took control.
He moved the cereal box aside.
Put them up.
Hold your hands up high.
Drop that omelet.
Turn it over and reach for the sky.
All the neighbors came to see.
I couldn't believe this was happening to me.
Anchor Pam was on the site,
Her crew flashing with bright lights.
Good morning.
This is Anchor Pam right here to bring you some great news.
It seems we found the bandit who was stealing our breakfast food.
From behind a bush rose a sight that made the crowd just gasp.
There was a man responsible for taking our breakfast stash.
All dressed in white,
A baker's hat sat crooked on his head.
It was Danny Donut who appeared to look well fed.
He owned the local donut shop.
147 flavors in all.
I couldn't believe this had happened.
The crowd was just appalled.
Anchor Pam reported,
Straight off the burner I am reporting live from Whisk Lane.
It seems that Detective Pancake has it beat.
He has scrambled the breakfast bandit.
It's Danny Donut of the famous Danny Donut located on 350 degree street.
Why did you do it Danny?
She asked as the officer Teflon escorted him away.
It was all the healthy breakfast you all serve each day.
How can I make money this way with families making their own breakfast every day?
Remember if your breakfast is missing,
A Danny Donut would surely do.
Anchor Pam said,
Yeah,
I have to say that's true.
His marshmallow cookie dough cherry filled chocolate chip with rainbow sprinkles donut is a lot of fun to chew.
Well,
Danny Donut is off to jail leaving all 147 flavors of donuts to go stale.
I wonder if he'll try to use his donuts to make bail.
Detective Pancake pulled off quite a feat.
Now it's time to eat.
This is news anchor Pam signing off reporting nonstick stories that come off with ease.
Detective Pancake once again solved a breakfast crime.
I'm not only about breakfast,
I solve lunch and dinner too.
So call me anytime.
