Learning To Listen To Our Bodies
by Bodhi Samuel
This is a meditation to help us start to deepen into a conversation with our body. So much of my life, when people would say "listen to your body" I wouldn't know how. As childeren, there are very few role models (at least in my life) that show us how to really hear our bodies and to honor them. This meditation is a step in that direction. Through this journey, you will have the opportounity to connect with your body and begin deepening into a magical relationship as you learn its language.

Welcome.
Welcome to our meditation time together.
I'm so excited.
This is a really,
Really lovely meditation that I kind of dropped in today.
That I was sitting and I realized that throughout my entire life in all of the academic institutions that I've learned out my entire life,
I never took a class.
Nobody ever taught me to listen to my body.
And I realized how excited I would get if there was a class that existed that helped teach me to listen to my body,
To listen to the communication and start to identify the language that my body speaks through.
So that's the practice that we're going to explore today.
We're going to explore our body's unique way of communicating to us.
So we'll start with a story.
You can roll your shoulders back and sit up tall.
And we'll start very simply with sitting in a way that your body is wanting to sit.
So ask your body,
How do you want to be?
And whatever comes,
Comes.
Don't question.
It doesn't,
You don't need to figure out if it came from the mind or the body.
Just the first thing that comes.
Okay,
We'll sit like this.
Even if it looks super weird,
Especially if it looks super weird,
That's how we want to be.
We'll replace the word weird with unique,
With your signature,
Your expression.
So darkness comes to God to complain about light.
And darkness says to God,
God light is just too much,
Shining all the time,
So bright,
Blinding.
Would you mind having a conversation with light and asking,
Ask him to calm down,
To dim,
To dim a little bit.
God says okay.
And God comes to light and says,
Hey,
Light,
Listen,
I've been getting some complaints about,
About you and how loud you've been being like darkness came to me,
And the light says who?
And so we see here that,
That which is dark,
We often forget to acknowledge.
That which isn't loud,
That which isn't light,
We miss,
We see through,
We forget.
So as we explore the subtle body today,
Let's not forget that just because we can't always see it,
Or feel it,
Doesn't mean it's not there.
So let's start allowing the breath,
That subtle breath,
To pour into the body.
Let it pour out of the body.
And just like we would get to know a close friend or new friend.
Today we'll get to know our body.
This body that we've lived with our entire lives that we've lived within that we are the caretakers of that we are the stewards of that we are the guests in.
Let's just start to feel this home,
This body that houses us,
That protects us,
That cares for us as well.
Start to notice any tingles,
Subtle vibrations,
Pressure,
Even just the touch of the cloth,
Your clothing,
Caressing the skin.
Notice the fullness of this body,
The completeness.
Notice the calmness within the body.
As the breath starts to deepen,
We can ask our first question.
As we ask this question,
We listen for an answer but the answer may not come in words,
But more so in a feeling.
But what I want to invite is as we ask this question,
Instead of waiting for an answer just start to observe anything that changes.
If you're needing to know what it means,
Just feel and smile.
No need to interpret.
We're learning a new language,
A language of our body,
A language that nobody else can teach you,
A language that is unique to you and your body.
So whatever comes up,
You have the permission to trust,
To trust what you feel,
No matter what comes up.
So our first question,
We can ask our body please show me what yes feels like in me,
In my body.
What does yes feel like?
How does it feel to be a full yes?
A yes to life,
A yes to myself,
A full yes from my heart.
Scanning the body,
Scanning,
Observing.
How does a no feel like in my body?
How does it feel to be a no?
No,
That doesn't feel good for me.
No,
That doesn't serve me.
How does that feel?
No,
I don't want that.
No,
That's not good for me.
No,
Thank you.
Noticing,
Noticing any shifts.
Noticing any shifts,
Changes between our yes,
Yes.
And no,
No.
And we'll take a deep vibrational breath to release those two deep in you.
And with sound.
How does it feel to be in my center?
To be connected to my core.
To be deeply rooted in myself.
How does that feel?
In my center.
How does it feel to be out of my center?
To interact from a place of emptiness,
Of neediness,
Of needing,
Of wanting something that I don't have.
How does it feel?
To not feel whole,
To not feel enough.
To yearn.
How does it feel to be empty,
To feel empty?
And notice the shifts.
Feeling in my center.
Versus feeling depleted and empty.
Releasing both of those,
Taking a deep inhale.
How does it feel to fully trust?
To trust myself.
To trust my path,
To trust the process that's unfolding before me.
To know deep in my heart that everything is working out perfectly.
To feel my body to trust.
To know without a doubt.
I am here perfectly on time.
How does it feel in my body to step into fear?
To doubt myself,
To doubt this process.
To worry.
How does that feel to doubt?
Maybe things aren't right.
Maybe I missed something.
Maybe I'm too late.
Just feeling.
And noticing that shift between how does it feel to fully trust?
And how does it feel to doubt?
Taking a deep,
Deep inhale,
Releasing both of the sigh.
Allowing the heart to open as we roll the shoulders back.
Allowing yourself to jump backwards into the fall of spaciousness,
Of experience,
Of sensation.
As if you were to jump into a pool.
Allowing yourself to be caught by the nothingness.
And fully supported by everything.
When God said to the light,
Darkness was complaining about you,
Light said,
Who?
The light and the darkness together are encompassed by this never-ending spaciousness.
This ever-present expansiveness beyond light and dark.
May we continue to step into this world,
This spacious world of communication and love in our bodies.
To start listening to the messages that our body has always given us.
To turn down the volume of the external light material world and to delve into this very subtle quiet spaciousness.
May we become our own best friends,
Our own lovers,
Our own partners,
May we recognize that we are the other half of the cake that we've been looking for.
That we're the whole cake.
You're the whole cake.
The hands come to heart center.
Creating a wholeness that's always there.
The enlightened in me sees and honors the enlightened in each and every one of you.
The cake in me recognizes the full cake inside of each and every one of you.
May this journey be a beautiful and powerful one.
Namaste.
Thank you.

You are the whole cake! Deeply appreciate your soothing voice and style. We sadly learn so little about emotional awareness and what emotions feel like in the body. We need this awareness to move into emotional regulation. Thankyou for helping us do the work π
