Hello and welcome to Being Strategically Resilient.
Today we're going to be exploring how to navigate unpleasant emotions with intention.
Being strategic,
Again,
Means acting with purpose.
Resilience is our ability to adapt,
Adjust,
And recover.
Together,
Strategic resilience is an intentional practice for managing life's struggles.
While some stress helps us to grow,
Too much overwhelms us.
And if we don't prioritize our well-being,
Stress creates this almost toxic spread effect.
It starts in the body as exhaustion,
Illness,
And then moves up the body into the lower brain,
Making us emotionally reactive and traps us in our negative thinking.
Ultimately this internal dysregulation spills outward,
Of course.
What comes out is what's inside,
Harming our relationships and the environments that we live in.
We bring our energy into every room we enter.
The way of strategic resilience reverses this cascade by starting with the body in the breath.
When we are overwhelmed,
We harness both to say yes to the present moment and intentionally down-regulate our nervous system.
As the body calms,
Our emotions shifts and our thoughts reframe,
And we naturally return to a state of balance.
By regulating ourselves,
We don't just heal our minds,
We bring a grounded positive energy back to our families and our colleagues.
Without further ado,
Let's go into our practice.
Enjoy!
Okay,
Sit comfortably and see if your back can be straight and aligned.
Close your eyes if you feel comfortable,
Or you can practice with your eyes open,
Just picking a spot on the floor ahead of you or on the wall,
Wherever you are.
Place your hands comfortably on your thighs,
And now let's begin.
Now let's drop into the present moment,
Let's resource our awareness and feel our feet on the ground Moving up the body,
Feeling our sit bones.
Are back.
We're back.
Hands and arms,
Noticing any contact points of the body Just enjoying the sensation of sitting here and the background music.
Now we'll drop into our breath.
This enjoying its natural flow,
The ebb and flow of it.
No need to alter it or change it Enjoying this one breath As we sit here we remember the way of strategic resilience is by anchoring ourselves in the present moment using the body and the breath If you're carrying any stress right now,
Any negativity from the day thus far,
This is where we begin to reverse the cascade of its effects by tapping into the body and the breath As we focus more deeply on the breath,
With each exhale,
Settle the body Starting at the top,
Softening the forehead,
Cheeks and jaw On the next exhale,
See if you can soften the shoulder,
The neck and the back and the next exhale relaxing the rest of the lower body.
The hips,
The sit bones,
The legs,
The feet.
Consciously soften all the body.
So that we can down-regulate the nervous system and shift away from the activity in that lower brain If there's any unpleasant or restless thoughts arising,
Don't fight them,
Just simply acknowledge they're there Just stay anchored in the physical sensation of breathing.
Now let's practice some very deliberate,
Coherent breaths.
Equal breaths.
So we're going to breathe in to a count of five and exhale to a count of five through our nose only.
Begin.
Breathing in.
Holding at the top and then breathing out.
Again.
More times.
How slow can you go?
Now just return to your natural breathing after those two were done.
Just gently experiencing the breath as it flows up and down the spine Allow the body and the breath to calm the emotions,
Hopefully begin to open the mind to think a little bit differently about something By regulating this internal world,
You are generating a grounded,
Centered,
Positive energy That you can soon carry out of this practice and share with family,
Friends or colleagues Enjoy that one last breath Okay,
Now you can open your eyes.
Gently move your body,
Your neck,
Your toes,
Your fingers.
Noticing before you started to practice and now Thank you for joining me on this practice.
Until next time.
