And this is a short practice for bringing yourself back to equilibrium.
This is a meditation perfect for you if you're feeling anxious or keyed up and just kind of worked up for no particular reason.
Like you don't need to be so worked up anymore,
But you still are and you want to come down from feeling this way.
To begin,
Let's just give ourselves a little more space,
Patience,
And grace to find a comfortable seat.
And any shifting and fidgeting is totally welcome and allowed and it's very natural,
Especially if you're coming here to this meditation.
So lots of permission to fidget and just kind of be annoyed a little bit if that's coming up for you.
Just giving yourself the opportunity to,
However you'd like to,
Whether it's calmly making your way to a more comfortable seat or tossing and turning your way there,
Arriving at your seat in a way that begins to communicate to the rest of your body.
It's time to begin to settle down.
Taking the breath now to help us welcome this theme of settling down into our body,
Into our space,
And just attuning to what your system needs in each moment.
It's going to change a lot,
Especially if you're coming here really keyed up.
Maybe it feels nice to do some exasperated sighs,
Maybe some quick pants.
And you can feel when you breathe in more dramatic or more forceful ways,
In ways that reflect how your body,
How your system is feeling right now.
You're giving yourself room to express this nervous energy through the breath.
Again,
Lots of permission here to breathe,
Make sounds in weird or angry ways.
And as you breathe like this,
And in conjunction with what we did earlier with the way in which we settled down but gave ourselves room to fidget our way there,
We're giving ourselves permission to express the truth of our anxiety,
The truth of our exasperation.
And it's very natural for other emotions to begin to come up,
So lots of permission and understanding there for yourself too.
Perhaps below this surface-level irritation and tension is sadness,
Maybe excitement,
Or perhaps anger.
Whatever is true for you,
Whatever is the case for you,
Know that this state of being keyed up and worked up is a way of your body communicating to you that something's up,
Pay attention to me,
Notice me.
So what we're doing now is exactly that,
Space,
Time,
To be like okay,
What's happening here?
What would it feel like to turn towards yourself a little bit more in this moment,
A little more open and curious about what's going on beneath the surface,
Knowing that there doesn't need to be a reason,
Anything that's coming up.
There's no need to try to figure out where certain emotions or thoughts are coming from,
But really your only role right now is to behold and witness this natural processing of emotions and thoughts occurring within you right now.
We meditate like this with a lot of understanding and permission,
We give ourselves a lot of room to work things out and resolve things in a way that is very intelligent and not very needing a lot of effort on our end,
And this is the magic of meditating in this way.
Breathing a couple slower deep breaths here now and feeling into the increased space and flow that you've welcomed into your system.
Giving yourself some permission to enjoy this new sense of equilibrium that you've cultivated,
Savouring the peace,
Stretching out into really owning,
Claiming and luxuriating in your sense of equilibrium.
