So settling into the position that you're choosing for yourself at this moment today,
And exploring the attitude of mind,
The attitude of body that you're bringing to this practice at this moment,
Maybe inviting a sense of dignity,
A sense of curiosity as best you can,
And noting if there might be hesitation or dullness or doubt that are present at the moment,
And bringing some kindness to that.
And remembering perhaps what John Kapatin says,
That to practice as though your life depended on it,
Because your life does depend on it.
So gathering in the intention to be aware in this moment,
Being close to your experience,
Moment by moment,
On purpose,
In a particular way.
And turning your awareness into breathing.
Sensing your body doing this breathing for you.
Almost creeping up upon it.
As though you were walking behind a pavement artist,
And talent you recognise,
But don't want to disturb.
There is the breathing just going on.
Just being alongside.
Acknowledging your persistence with these practices.
Or whatever barriers or hesitancy or hesitations or challenges.
Here you are.
Here you are right now.
Being with the breath.
And maybe now also thinking.
And maybe now also bringing to mind other things that are important to you in your life right at the moment.
What makes your heart sing?
What is it that matters?
What is the best in you?
The answer to that question isn't necessarily accompanied by fireworks.
Sometimes what we most need to do is just to ask the question and listen.
Just listen.
Ask the question with open heart without assuming you must know the answer.
And if you do know the answer then staying with that.
Holding it close.
The most important thing is to just listen.
The most important thing is the most important thing.
And maybe there are levels of the most important thing for you.
There can be the most important thing you have to buy for dinner.
But there is also the most important thing in the sense of what calls you.
What fundamentally matters.
And maybe what matters is the willingness to ask.
To ask yourself.
Giving yourself that dignity.
Recognising that your life matters.
As Mary Oliver asks,
What will you do with your one wild and precious life?
What will you do with your one wild and precious life?
