The idea of this type of breathing is based on a yogic breathing technique ~ Pranayama. 'Prana' may be translated as 'vital life force' energy and 'ayama' refers to 'expansiveness', 'elongate', and 'breadth.' Practice in silence for 1 minute at 2:07 together with me. Please enjoy this simple and so very important breathing practice to induce calm and an inner-dwelling focus. ~ Namaste and love to you

Transcript

The idea of this kind of breathing is based on a yogic breathing practice called pranayama.

Prana meaning vital life force energy,

Yama meaning control,

And ayama meaning extension or expansion and thus to free the energy of prana.

The breath is symbolic of prana and pranayama is understood as the various methods to extend and expand vital force energy through the deliberate control of respiration.

So here's how to breathe deeply.

Inhale through your nose with your mouth closed.

Witness your diaphragm move down first and then feel your chest expand outwards.

Hold your breath for a moment or two and then exhale through your open mouth.

First empty the chest and then let your diaphragm rise back up.

Count the number of counts as you inhale.

Hold breath for,

If you can,

The same number of counts.

Release breath for one or two counts longer than your inhalation breath.

Aim for ten deep breaths a day,

Just like this.

Feel free to breathe deeply far more of the time and notice how you feel.

Notice what changes.

It's incredibly extraordinary and so simple.

Thank you for joining me.

This is Dorothy.

Namaste.
