Guided Meditation for Improving Relationships.
This guided meditation will help you improve your relationships by shifting your perspective.
Let's begin by getting into a comfortable position,
Either sitting or lying down.
Close your eyes and breathe deeply.
With each in-breath,
Fill up the lower belly,
Then the chest,
And then the head.
With each out-breath,
Just relax and let it go naturally.
Let's breathe like this for one minute.
Now I'd like you to imagine that you are in your spaceship exploring the galaxy.
You come to an attractive planet that looks somewhat like the Earth,
With separate continents surrounded by blue oceans.
Your instruments tell you that this planet is inhabited by an advanced civilization,
So you decide to make contact.
Your first communication with the alien species goes well,
And they invite you to beam down for a visit.
You are greeted on the planet by a group of friendly aliens.
You are very happy to meet such a nice race,
Especially when you remember the last planet you visited.
That didn't go so well,
But you are confident that this time will be different.
After several hours of exchanging information with the aliens and enjoying their hospitality,
The conversation turns to the problems on Earth.
The aliens are very concerned to hear about the conflicts on your home planet.
Their race has progressed beyond such conflict.
They have a peaceful planet where everyone is accepted just as they are.
You ask the aliens how they achieved this level of peace.
They reply that they have a process for conflict resolution that they teach to every child at a young age.
Over the many years that they have been doing this,
Their race has evolved to have a high level of empathy.
They also have increased awareness,
Intuitive abilities,
And inner peace.
The aliens offer to teach you the process,
And you gladly accept.
One of the aliens who reminds you of a kind-hearted counselor says,
I'd like you to think of someone in your life with whom you were experiencing conflict.
Imagine this person sitting in front of you.
See their face in your mind's eye.
Now answer the following question in your mind.
What do you need and desire to improve the relationship?
Take two minutes to think of an answer.
You you you you The alien continues.
This is first-person perspective.
Now I'd like you to shift your perspective to second person.
Put yourself in the place of the other person and see through their eyes.
What does this person need and desire to improve the relationship?
Take two minutes to imagine their perspective.
You you you you Now I'd like you to shift your perspective to third person.
This is the perspective of an outsider,
Someone who doesn't have any bias or personal attachment to either you or the person with whom you are in conflict.
You could imagine a therapist,
Spiritual teacher,
Or any wise person whose opinion you respect.
Put yourself in their place and imagine what they would recommend to improve the relationship.
Do this for two minutes.
You you you you Finally,
I'd like you to leave all individual perspectives behind and become a non-judgmental observer.
This is a state of pure witnessing.
It's also called zero perspective because it transcends all other perspectives and simply observes without judgment.
Take several minutes to meditate in the witness perspective.
You you you you you you you you you you When you finish the exercise,
The alien smiles gently and asks you how you feel.
You reply,
And then you thank the aliens for their help.
It's time to go back to your spaceship,
But you look forward to keeping in contact and learning more from this friendly race.
Now it's time to come back from the meditation.
Breathe deeply and feel your body.
When you are ready,
Slowly open your eyes,
Stretch,
And come back to the present moment.
