Namaste and a very warm welcome to all of you in this daily live meditation session with me,

Dhyan Sai.

We're going through Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in the current series.

If I ask you,

Where are you right now?

You will ask back,

Maybe it's an absurd question,

Because I am here,

I am in this city,

I am in this place,

I am in this house.

But ask yourself again,

Where are you right now?

Are you just in the physical place that you are referring to or are you somewhere else as well?

We exist on several different realms.

Our body is existing in the physical realm that we call as I am here,

I am in this place,

So and so address.

But we never pay attention to where we are in this realm,

Which is non-physical.

In the intangible realm,

If you pay attention to where you are right now,

You are in your million thoughts.

You are in your million imaginations,

Dreams,

Plans.

You are in this realm of mind,

Which is such an intangible.

If you ask where this realm is,

You cannot point out where this realm is.

Yet it exists,

Yet you exist in this realm all the time.

How much of you is really existing in the body where you can say I am here,

I am right now located in this and this place?

And how much are you always in the mind and somewhere else?

So ask yourself,

Where are you right now?

That question is already putting you back into this very moment.

Then the interesting thing about this realm,

This realm of mind that we are always in and always getting carried away with,

We think that this realm is somewhat individual,

Somewhat isolated.

I am thinking something,

I am in my own imagination,

I am in my own dreams.

Nobody knows what is going on in my head and all what I am in,

All what I am projecting,

All what I am in this manifestation of this intangible realm of the mind is my own.

We take some sort of entitlement of this realm and we just like our body,

We say this is my body and this is not somebody else's body.

We think the same for the mind.

But again,

If you pay attention,

If you are sensitive enough,

You will see just like we share this earth,

Just like we share the air,

Just like we share the water,

It does not matter if I do something bad to the environment,

It affects everybody else as well.

It's the same for the realm of the mind.

In fact,

The realm of the mind,

Which is an intangible,

It is even more common,

Even more a ground that we share than the physical ground.

At least in the body,

In our daily experience,

You can say this is my body,

This is your body,

Your pain is your pain,

My pain is my pain.

But in the realm of the mind,

This is ignorance.

This is misunderstanding to think that what I am thinking,

What I am experiencing in the mind is just my own creation.

It's just my own place.

Your mind is not your own place.

We share this realm across everyone.

For a moment,

Open yourself up to the possibility that all what you're thinking,

All what is going on in your mind is a shared content that we all are going through,

That we all are in that realm.

Somehow we are ignorant that we think that there are boundaries to it,

That we think that this is our own space.

Somewhere there is an unconsciousness about this realm of mind,

Which makes us feel there are boundaries to it,

Which makes us feel that this is some sort of an isolated bubble that we are in.

The reason why I'm saying this to you is this mind that we share,

We share one mind,

We don't have individual minds,

Especially when I say this shared mind,

I'm talking about this realm of thought.

The thought that you're having right now is never really yours.

It is of everybody.

It comes to you.

It is in your reception that makes you think,

That makes you convince,

That makes you believe that this is your thought.

But if these thoughts are all over the place,

We share this realm of thoughts and this common realm,

We are all responsible for it,

Whether we are having positive thoughts.

So we not only share this realm,

We at times in the state how we are,

We contribute to this realm,

Just like the boiling water has then those vapors rising up and forming clouds is the same here where the state of your being,

The state of how you are,

Is contributing to this realm.

How you are is contributing these bubbles of thought into the realm of thought,

Which we all share.

So this realm of thought,

Which we share,

Can be positive,

Can be negative.

And while we are experiencing this realm of thought,

There is something that we can do about that.

What we can do is we can,

If we see that we are experiencing negative thoughts,

We must do something about that because we have to contribute.

We have to also clean this realm of thought,

Which we have now put together for ourselves.

I'm just shocked by one of the events that happened in the past in the game of tennis,

Where in,

You must be knowing this,

A few days back where Djokovic,

One of the greatest tennis players,

He just accidentally hit the ball in the flow of things.

He threw the ball and it hit the line watcher at the back.

And how much negativity we all carry in us that we are blaming the person as his act is somewhat negative,

As he is not in control of his emotions or his mind and so on.

So much negativity we are carrying in us that a casual act we are unable to discriminate between whether this is something positive,

Negative,

Intentional,

Unintentional,

Could be forgiven or not could be or has to be punished and so on.

The negativity on us is so much in these times that we must do something about this because out of this negativity we are running into things.

We are deciding about things in life,

Which is not out of the right place,

Which is not out of the Viveka of the Budhi of the real intelligence of the real consciousness within us.

But we are just acting out of impulses of negativity,

Which is amplifying this realm with all the darkness.

Patanjali also has in his sutras while talking about Ashtanga Yoga,

Which is the step by step process towards transformation,

Towards purification is also touching upon this point where he says,

When disturbed by negative thoughts,

Opposite ones should be practiced.

This is Pratipaksha Bhavana.

Here in this sutra,

He talks about a technique called Pratipaksha Bhavana,

Which is very simple.

It's not even a technique.

It is so simple.

It's so logical.

It is something that you can practice wherever you are in whichever situation of life you are.

He says,

When disturbed by negative thoughts,

Opposite ones should be practiced.

Basically,

He's encouraging us.

He says,

When you come across negativity,

When you see that you have your mind is now receiving,

Is now is getting carried away in negative thoughts.

What can you do about that?

Substitute them with positivity.

Make an effort to call in the positive thoughts to think of positive thoughts,

Encounter this negativity.

So it is not that you have to always remain victim of the negative thoughts.

It is not that you always have to contain these negative thoughts in you.

You can change them.

You can,

Through your positivity,

You can not only bring these positive thoughts to you.

You can not only attract these positive thoughts to you,

But also contribute to this realm of thought and bring more positivity into the world.

In another sutra,

He says,

When negative thoughts or acts such as violence,

Etc.

Are done,

Caused to be done or even approved of,

Whether incited by greed,

Anger or infatuation,

Whether indulged in with mild,

Medium or extreme intensity,

They are based on ignorance and bring certain pain.

Reflecting upon this is also Pratipaksha Bhavana.

Here Patanjali says that it does not matter what is the source,

Whether it is greed,

Anger,

Infatuation,

Whether these negative thoughts are mild,

Extreme in intensity.

They are based on ignorance,

Which is they are based on you not being connected to your consciousness.

You not acting out of consciousness.

When you're not acting out of your awareness,

Your consciousness,

Your light,

Then chances are in that ignorance,

You call in negative thoughts,

Your negative actions result in producing new negative thoughts and everyone has to suffer.

He says they bring certain pain,

Negative thoughts bring certain pain.

So we must for ourselves and for everyone else who shares this realm of thought also act upon moving towards positivity,

From negativity to positivity,

From darkness to light.

This movement we have to take as long as we are in the realm of the body,

We are in the realm of the mind.

If we are meditativeness grows beyond the realm of the body,

Beyond the realm of the mind,

It does not matter.

You are in bliss.

There is no pain.

There is no pleasure.

You are above the clouds.

But as long as you are in the realm of thought,

As long as you're in everyday life functioning in the realm of thought,

It is important to move towards from negative to positive,

From darkness to light.

Very simple.

It's also the foundation of this whole modern positive psychology.

You have the choice to transform the negativity into your positivity.

How to do that is you reconnect with your consciousness,

With your light inside.

Everyone has light inside.

Everyone has also a sense of darkness.

You have to see that sense of darkness is just the absence of light.

It is not something that is real in you.

It is just the absence of you really being there.

You're being really active,

Alive,

Your consciousness shining out of its purity,

Shining its light on your body,

On your mind,

On everything that you do,

On everyone else that surrounds you.

So through this meditation today,

We will reconnect,

Ignite the light of our consciousness.

And we can do this by a visual meditation,

Visual imagination where you will imagine that you have a source of light in you and that source of light is expanding.

It is filling your entire body,

Your mind with light,

Leaving no place for darkness.

And that light then expands further.

It touches everyone else in the world.

Very simple imagination.

Try it.

Be open for this imagination.

It can take you places.

It can transform whatever you're negatively,

Whatever you're experiencing.

In your life right now,

Be it thoughts,

Be it emotions,

Be it situations.

It has the power to transform even your situations because your situations are the manifestation of your thought.

And if the thought is positive,

You will have positive situations in life.

With that,

Let us close our eyes and take a posture that is comfortable.

That is comfortable.

With back straight,

Shoulders down,

Breath flowing in and out naturally.

Allowing the body to be here,

Allowing the mind to be here.

Any awareness to turn inward in your inner space.

Has you become aware of your inner space?

Sense light in your inner space.

See that there is light in your inner space.

It is not anywhere in a physical location.

Yet,

There is light,

A sense of light,

Brightness in your inner space.

It does not matter how thin it is.

Give yourself time to tune in to that light in your inner space.

Don't look for that light with your eyes.

Don't look for that light with your eyes.

Don't look for that light with your thought.

Don't even have to imagine it.

Become aware of the light in your inner space.

And with every breath,

Tune more and more into this light.

And with every breath,

Tune more and more into this light,

Allowing it to become brighter,

Slowly,

Gently,

With every breath,

With more and more awareness.

This meditation effectively shifts focus from negativity to positivity. I would omit the lecture from the start and go straight to the meditation from ca. 10 minutes onward if I’m in short of time. It is an excellent resource to fight against negativity. Love it. Thank you πŸ™

A beautiful meditation on light. It would be great if these meditations could be available as stand-alone meditations separate from the talks as, though the talks are interesting and useful, it is distracting to sit through them repeatedly in order to practise the meditation. again.
