Welcome.

Today is a special treat for you.

For today we journey with Pele,

The Hawaiian goddess of fire,

Lightning,

Wind,

Dance and volcanoes.

She will help to cleanse your soul and let go of anything no longer necessary for this earthly journey you are on.

As we walk through life we absorb whatever is around us.

Our senses are like sponges bringing in sights,

Sounds and smells into our soul space and into our body.

Our senses are like sponges bringing in sights,

Sounds and smells into our soul space and into our body.

Along with the beauty in this world we absorb loud noises,

Noxious smells and images burned into our retinas and burned into our souls that we would rather forget.

But today we call in the help of Pele to burn away anything holding you down,

Holding you back and let your soul soar.

So close your eyes and let's begin by taking three deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.

In and out and one last time in and out.

You are standing alone on a beach looking out over the ocean.

It is early morning.

The sun is still low in the sky but strong enough you can feel the warmth of its rays touching your skin.

You are wearing a simple outfit and as you gaze towards the horizon you can feel the light cotton swishing in the gentle breeze and flowing over you like the waves in the ocean before you.

You hear a shrill sing-song voice in the distance and turn to look reflexively behind you in the direction of the sound.

Before you is now sparse vegetation growing out between black volcanic rocks and the rocks are like the roots of the volcano stretching up from the beach,

Tangling and melding with other roots for miles before finally rising as a majestic volcano out of the earth.

You can feel the strength of the volcano,

Auspicious,

Proud,

Determined and unwavering.

You see the red mantle of lava flowing from its mouth and down the sides like unrelenting red rivers but you are not afraid.

You are mesmerised by the sight and you know you are safe.

You hear the voice again laughing and singing and are drawn to move in that direction.

You turn and walk along the beach between the ocean and the volcano and like a book between bookends on a shelf you feel held between them.

As you walk you can feel the black sand shifting between your toes speaking in whispers of millennia,

Of years being witness to those that have walked before you.

You walk around a rock outcrop and see the silhouette of a figure dancing around a fire.

As the flames of the fire lick up into the sky so does the figure,

Skipping and dancing,

Arms reaching for the sky just like the flames.

She circles the fire one more time and then looks up as she circles towards you,

The bright smile on her face lighting even further when she recognises who you are and she calls out to you,

Her voice high pitched and flickering in tones like the flames.

Welcome traveller,

We have a special treat for you today.

Come and sit down with me by the fire.

She speaks in her trill voice as she gestures towards a couple of rocks nestled in the sand.

She looks you over with a penetrating stare deep into your body and continues,

You look tired my dear,

I see the stress in your life covering you like dust on a table and the troubles of the world have got caught in your aura like leaves in a storm drain.

She turns and skips away and sits on one of the rocks and you are drawn to follow her and settle in on the rock facing her.

She looks at you with dark mesmerising eyes flickering with excitement,

Her black hair with bright red and gold streaks falls in thick waves around her shoulders and down her back.

A red robe tied in a knot over her shoulder drapes down to just above her knees.

She shifts excitedly,

Picks up a tempered metal bowl and kneels before you.

You peer into the bowl and watch her use a slender piece of driftwood to stir a deep black coloured liquid that shimmers like the sunlight on the ocean.

She puts the metal bowl onto the sand beside her.

She gestures for you to put your feet on her folded knees.

You comply as you curiously watch her use the material in her robe to gently wipe off every grain of sand.

Once she is satisfied she dips both other hands into the bowl,

Cupping and filling them with the shimmering black liquid which she then gently pours over your left foot.

You gasp slightly at how wonderful it feels.

Her gentle hands begin massaging the liquid into your foot,

Releasing tension and creating a shimmering coating.

Her fingers move in circular motions around your ankle,

Down the top of your foot towards your toes.

And then starting with your big toe,

She massages each toe in turn.

And then she continues to massage underneath your foot,

The ball,

The instep,

Your heel and finally returning to your ankle.

She reaches down into the bowl,

Cups her hands a second time,

This time pouring the liquid onto your right foot.

And she begins to repeat the process again,

Massaging your foot.

Her fingers move in circular motions around your ankle,

Down the top of your foot towards your toes.

And then starting with your big toe,

She massages each toe in turn.

And then she continues to massage up underneath your foot,

First the ball,

Then the instep,

Then your heel and finally returning to your ankle.

The liquid soaks into your feet,

Dissolving any tension and stress and leaving your feet shimmering with a gold sparkling protection.

Now you are ready,

She exclaims as she gently places your feet back onto the sand.

She takes your hands and gestures for you to stand up as she leads you around the fire and to a shallow pit about four feet wide and extending about six feet in length.

The pit is filled with dark coals.

She bends down and stirs the coals with her bare hands and you see the disturbed red embers immediately reaching up with a few quick licks before settling back into their crimson home.

You look at her in wonderment.

Her hands and arms are not even red.

Now she gestures once again for your hand and she gestures for you to stand beside her,

This time both facing the hot coal pit.

She confidently takes a step onto the coals and reflected in the red embers you can see the glistening on her skin just like the glistening on your feet.

She turns to you and says,

Do not be afraid my dear for you have been called here today.

You are ready for this.

She smiles and continues.

We cannot move forward without taking a step.

She now stands with both feet on the coals looking back and smiling at you welcomely.

You take in a deep breath and ever so gently begin to place your foot on the coals.

Surprisingly there is no heat and even when the flames lick up from below there is no heat.

You both begin to walk slowly along the coals and she speaks again.

We cannot leave something behind without moving forward.

You both now move forward and as you do you can feel the flames against your skin like a gentle lapping of waves on the shore and you feel a soft pulling towards them.

Then you feel all the weight of the stress you carry in your body,

The frustration,

The disappointment,

The anger,

The exhaustion all pulling together in your core and all now dissolving into a black smoke.

The black smoke starts to spiral downwards,

Pulled down through your torso,

Down through your legs,

Your thighs,

Your shins,

Your ankles,

Through your feet and out into the burning coals below.

As you continue to walk the flames are intensified,

Feeding on the darkness,

Draining through the bottom of your feet.

And as you continue to walk white light begins to replace the black smoke and as you take the last step and move back onto the sand you hear the last wisps of smoke crackling into the flames behind you.

Pele is still holding your hand.

She turns to face you and grasps both of your hands in hers.

Sometimes we collect things and we don't even realise but the volcano has taken all those pieces that you no longer need.

They are gone,

Dissolved back into the fabric of the universe.

Now you are lighter,

You may continue your journey.

She smiles again and gently squeezes your hands,

Acknowledging your bravery to come here today and to let go.

You look into her eyes and say thank you for this wonderful gift and this experience.

You do feel lighter,

More confident and at peace.

You close your eyes reflecting on this wonderful feeling and while your eyes are closed the sound of the crackling fire begins to fade and then the sound of the ocean begins to fade and you realise you have returned.

When you are ready,

Slowly open your eyes,

Wriggle your fingers and wriggle your toes returning to your body.

You will always remember this journey and always remember Pele.

And when you look into a mirror and look into your eyes you will see the crackling flames of bravery for you have walked beside Pele and you are forever changed from having walked through the fire.
