Taking a moment to take a breath. In this short and sweet practice of pranayama we will be counting out the breath in a box like style : in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4. This type of breathing creates a balanced rhythm and also helps to calm the nervous system.

So we're going to take a little breath break together and we're going to use something that's often referred to as the box breath.

It's equal in parts and so we end up breathing in the same amount that we breathe out and we also have this aspect of holding the breath full and holding the breath empty.

And so if you were to use your mind's eye to trace lines,

You would create almost a little box or a square with the breath.

We're going to start with the count of four and we'll move to the count of five and then I'll give you some space,

Some time to do it a couple of rounds through on your own.

And we'll start with four so it'll be an inhale of four.

You'll hold it at the top so you'll hold your lungs full to the count of four and then you'll exhale for four and hold it empty so without any of the breath being in your lungs.

So we're going to start just with a reset breath by taking a big inhale through the nose and just sighing it out of the mouth.

And then I want you to inhale two,

Three,

Four and hold it at the top two,

Three,

Four.

Exhale two,

Three,

Four.

Hold it at the bottom two,

Three,

Four.

Repeat so breathe in two,

Three,

Four.

Hold it at the top two,

Three,

Four.

Exhale two,

Three,

Four.

Hold it at the bottom two,

Three,

Four.

One more time.

Breathe in two,

Three,

Four.

Hold it at the top two,

Three,

Four.

Exhale two,

Three,

Four.

Hold it empty two,

Three,

Four.

Go to five now.

Two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Hold it at the top two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Exhale two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Hold it at the bottom two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Inhale deep two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Hold it full two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Exhale two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Hold it empty two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

And big inhale and just let it go.

And then I just want you to check in with yourself.

Notice the feelings to feel.

Notice the sensations.

Notice your breath.

Notice your heart.

And so we'll go through that one more time together.

I'll take you through a count of four and then I'm just gonna leave some open space for you to try it out on your own.

You might keep the count of four.

You can move it to the count of five.

You could take it lower to the count of three or six if that's better suited for your lung capacity.

Find something that works for you.

Just take a reset breath in so nice and deep through the nose and just let it go.

We'll do the first one together.

Breathe in two,

Three,

Four.

Hold it at the top two,

Three,

Four.

Exhale two,

Three,

Four.

Hold it at the bottom two,

Three,

Four.

Find your own rhythm now.

And then I want you to take another cleansing breath in through the nose.

And release.

And just turning inward,

Checking in on yourself.

So happy to have taken this breath break with you from my heart to yours.

Namaste.
