The term dyad generally refers to a pair of something,
Sometimes two elements or two people.
In music,
For example,
It means two notes or pitches played simultaneously.
In sociology,
It refers to two people who have a close relationship,
Such as a parent and a child.
More specifically,
It is two polarities coming together to complement one another.
Yin and yang,
Savory and sweet,
Winter and summer.
In Wicca and paganism,
It references in particular a divine pair,
The god and the goddess.
Wicca views the divine as having two components or natures,
Masculine and feminine.
This duotheistic concept has been with us since Paleolithic times,
In which there was a god of hunting and a goddess of fertility.
Each plays a different role,
Yet one is not complete without the other.
At the Sabbath of Beltane,
Which is celebrated on May 1st in the Northern Hemisphere,
We see the god and goddess symbolically coming together,
Their union being that which brings new life to all of nature once again.
The full moon in June,
Known by many names including the strawberry moon,
Is also recognized by pagans as the dyad moon.
Some will celebrate this full moon in May to coincide with Beltane,
But it is often associated with the full moon in June.
Regardless,
Its essence is the same,
Two polarities coming together in a sacred union of oneness.
It also coincides with the summer solstice,
Honoring the height of light and life.
Accordingly,
Many practitioners will refer to this as the Boon Moon,
Viewed as a time quite favorable for invoking the assistance of the god and the goddess,
And adding an additional layer of life force energy to workings.
In so doing,
We are seeking to bring about harmony,
Partaking of the energy of a time in which the two aspects of divinity are seen as balanced.
All in all,
This is another joyous time of celebration,
Particularly for Wiccans and pagans.
The term Boon means a timely benefit or blessing,
And what we see all around us in nature right now,
Particularly the rebirth and promise of abundance,
Is very indicative of a point in time in which great blessings are all around us.
With this in mind,
What follows is a meditative working for inviting into ourselves harmonious oneness while calling upon the energy of light and life that is abundant at this time.
And while this practice comes from a Wiccan perspective,
It is by no means limited to only practitioners of the craft.
It is a celebration of powerful pairings from which anyone can benefit.
Begin in a position that is comfortable for you.
This can be sitting or lying down,
As long as you are in a place free from distractions.
If you wish,
You may close the eyes.
Create a sacred space for yourself by taking a slow,
Conscious,
Deep breath in and releasing it slowly.
Do this again.
Allow the neck and shoulders to relax completely.
Allow the body to become loose and soft.
Allow the eyes and jaw to soften.
Release any tension being stored in the muscles.
Bring the awareness to the breath as it flows naturally in and out of the body.
Maintain awareness of the breath and simply observe it without attempting to alter it.
Feel the natural flow of the breath.
Allowing you to establish a connection with the earth.
Feel yourself rooting into the earth.
Drawing in energy from the core of the earth.
See,
Sense,
And feel that energy entering you through your feet.
Traveling up through the body like a tendril of light.
That very same light,
Which is at its fullness at this time,
Rising up through you until it reaches your crown chakra.
Take another deep breath and release it slowly.
Attune again to the energy of the breath.
As you do so,
Bring awareness to each inhale and to each exhale.
Giving both equal amounts of awareness.
Feel one complementing the other.
Recognize how the union of both sustains life within us.
Creates strength within us.
Creates peace within us.
How there is an equal level of importance to each.
How one without the other simply cannot be.
Just as the God and the Goddess come together at the sun's peak,
So too does this divine union exist within us.
By practicing awareness,
We find this pairing within each breath we take.
We call upon the God and the Goddess,
The energies of the sun and the moon.
We invite these two aspects to join us now and lend their boon to this working.
We draw upon the balancing of these two forces to bring balance to ourselves and all that we do.
Gracious Goddess,
The lamp of night,
The creator of all that is wild and free,
Mother of woman and man,
Lover of the horned God and protectress of the Wicca,
Descend with your lunar ray of power as I welcome strength and balance.
Blazing God,
Lord of the sun,
Master of all that is wild and free,
Father of woman and man,
Lover of the moon Goddess and protector of the Wicca,
Descend with your solar ray of power as I welcome strength and balance.
Spend a few moments now feeling both vibrance and contentment,
Strength and nurturing within yourself,
Allowing them to complement one another for the highest good.
The awareness returns to the breath once again.
Listening to the natural flow of the breath,
The mind begins to become external now.
You begin to recognize the sounds around you,
The sounds within this room,
The sounds of the near distance,
The sound of my voice,
Acknowledging them without any judgment and without attempting to change them.
Begin to allow any excess energy you have gathered for this practice to slowly return to the earth,
Knowing that it will be there for you whenever you need to draw upon it again.
Begin to invite subtle movements into the hands and feet,
The fingers and toes.
Take another slow,
Conscious,
Deep breath in and release it slowly.
And when you are ready,
Open the eyes.
May the full moon and the summer solstice bring both joy and a sense of oneness to you.
The crow flies from me to thee to send the message,
Blessed Be.
