Mountain Meditation.
So I spent the week looking at mountains and really thinking what we can learn from them.
And there is a mountain meditation but this is my version of it from what I learned during that week so sitting in an upright position for this one as if you are the mountain.
So your head is the peak and your arms can be anywhere they feel comfortable.
We're going to bring in that kind of solidity of the mountain.
Okay,
So you might want to close your eyes or just soften your gaze.
And let's just start by just noticing the sounds around you.
If you're listening on headphones,
You might be able to hear the birds in my garden.
Or maybe you can just hear other noises around yourself.
And just bringing your attention to your breath.
Just noticing how that feels today.
Sometimes if we're a bit stressed,
It might be a bit raggedy or shallow.
Or perhaps you're feeling calm.
And you can easily just settle into that rhythm.
But just noticing how it is for you today.
Okay,
So just bringing an image of a mountain,
Any mountain.
It can be one that you've seen in real life or maybe you can see right now.
Or maybe it's just a picture of one.
Just noticing its qualities.
In this image.
Bringing the details.
To mind.
And as we sit in that upright position,
Just trying to bring in.
.
.
That's solidity.
Of the mountain,
As if we are the mountain.
Might seem a bit strange.
Might be a bit tricky.
But just almost as if you're bringing it in.
To your body.
So your head is the peak.
Arms and shoulders at the sides.
Bringing that in.
And as you sit here,
With that feeling,
With that solidity inside you.
Just bringing to mind that image of the mountain.
And how.
It changes.
Throughout the day.
With different weather.
Even when the sun is on it.
It looks so different.
And there might be wildlife.
The different seasons coming and going.
So one maybe with buds and spring flowers blossoming.
New creatures,
Life.
All around the mountain.
And then in summer,
It gets hot.
Maybe dry.
And how all of this is peripheral.
To the mountain.
And then in autumn.
.
.
The leaves changing.
Some trees losing their leaves.
The weather changing around it.
And the mountain just sits.
And then in winter.
.
.
Be snow and winds,
Rain and hail,
Storms.
And all the while the mountain is this solid.
Immense thing.
If we can be more like that mountain.
Even as our thoughts change and our moods change.
If we can still be this solid.
Person inside.
To weather the storms.
Will help that feeling of strength.
And resilience.
We're just feeling that solidity of that mountain.
Conjuring up an image You have your mountain.
Feeling that strength that's always inside you.
And another thing from the original mountain meditation was that Sometimes people.
.
.
Will come to look at the mountain.
Maybe.
Observe whether they like it or not or different aspects.
But the mountain doesn't care.
That's another way in which we can.
.
.
Keep that learning.
If we have that inner strength.
That we don't need to be swayed by other people's likes and dislikes.
Feeling that solidity.
Within yourself.
Bringing that image to mind again.
I'm trying to just keep that there.
As you go.
About your day,
Having that intention.
To feel that inner strength.
And maybe when you're not feeling so strong.
During the day.
Just bringing that feeling in again.
And seeing how that works.
Okay,
So we're just going to finish this with Just noticing the position that you're in.
She sits.
Feeling your body as it sits on the chair.
Your floor and this feet on the floor connected with the earth beneath.
Just as a mountain would be.
And once again,
Tuning into your breath.
And then just finishing by tuning into those sounds.
Around you or my voice.
Your breath.
And gently opening your eyes.
Okay!
