Future you growth.
So this is part two of coming up with different life goals.
Yesterday was experiences and on Monday we're going to be doing contribution.
So this is growth.
And again,
We're going to split the practice into a practical exercise and then a meditation.
So if you can get yourself a pen and paper,
Or just your reminder on your phone if need be,
But I just like to have that kind of freedom to scroll on a piece of paper and,
You know,
Write a list and maybe connecting different things with one another.
So however you want to do it.
Okay,
Just bringing yourself to the present moment.
Let's just start today by gently closing your eyes and noticing any sounds.
That are around.
If you're listening on headphones,
It might be limited.
To the sounds that I have got in my background.
Or if you're not,
Just noticing what's there today,
Right now.
OK,
And then gently opening your eyes and writing down at the top of a piece of paper,
Growth.
So hopefully you can keep it with yesterday's and the next time as well,
Which is contribution.
So just write down growth.
And this is looking at all the different ways that you might like to develop yourself in your life.
So maybe thinking about your intellectual life.
So anything you'd like to learn about.
Maybe you've just always had a desire to learn about something quite obscure.
Allowing these thoughts to just come to the forefront and then get them down on that piece of paper.
Are there any skills that you would like to learn?
Any languages perhaps you'd like to master?
And how would you like to deal with stressful events in your life?
What character traits do you admire in other people that you might like to master?
Do you have any health and fitness goals?
For example,
How long would you like to live?
And how would you like to feel?
And what would you like to do in your old age?
How would you like to show up in social situations?
And is there a particular aspect of your spiritual life that you'd like to develop further?
So,
This is all about growth,
Just allowing anything.
Imagining,
You know,
Money is no object,
Time is no object.
How would you really like to develop yourself in this lifetime?
Okay,
And then just looking at your list,
Just choosing one,
And we're just going to go into the meditation part.
So choosing one,
Gently closing your eyes.
And just imagining a scene.
Where you have either mastered something or you're actually learning it.
It's a future visualisation.
So,
For example,
If you learn a language,
You could imagine yourself speaking it in a different country.
Whatever your first one that you chose is.
Really making the details vivid in your mind.
Using all the senses.
What can you see?
What can you hear?
What can you touch?
What can you smell or taste?
And most importantly,
How is this making you feel,
This future visualization?
How does that feel in your body?
Remember,
The brain doesn't know that it's not quite real,
So we'll respond to it.
Does this feel like a feeling of happiness?
OK,
And just letting go of that and just looking at your list,
We're just going to choose one more.
Try not to overthink which one you choose.
Again,
Gently closing your eyes.
Imagining it's something that you've already done or that you're doing.
Bringing the details.
Vividly.
Imagining the sights,
Sounds,
Smells,
Tastes.
Things you can touch around you.
How does it feel?
Okay.
So we're just going to gently let go of this visualisation.
And while you're just sitting calmly,
Just imagining something that you could do today that would be a step in this direction.
Okay.
And once again,
Just tuning into the sounds.
Around you.
If you are listening on headphones.
Perhaps imagining.
What sounds might be.
In your home or the garden.
I can hear the birds tweeting.
And the whir of the boiler.
My own breath.
And just gently opening your eyes,
Perhaps looking at your list,
And if something came to you that you would like to take a step in that direction,
Then perhaps setting time aside to do that either now or a designated time a bit later on.
Okay,
Well done.
