The rain is falling outside.
Let's relax for a few minutes and let it fall.
Begin by finding a comfortable position.
You may choose to sit upright with an alert yet relaxed posture,
Or you may choose to lie down.
Whatever your position,
Be sure you are warm and comfortable and won't be disturbed for the next few minutes.
Close your eyes or keep a soft focus ahead.
Start to tune in to your breath in this moment.
Notice the quality of your breath today,
Now.
Maybe it's smooth or rough.
Maybe it's deep or shallow.
However your breath is,
Is just fine.
There is no need to change it,
Merely notice what is already here.
Allow a few moments now to become aware of the state of your body.
Gently scan your body from your toes up to your head.
Notice where there are areas of tension and where there are areas of ease.
You don't need to change what you find or become involved in a story about your body.
Simply notice what is already here.
Aim for a kind and accepting approach to how your body is feeling in this moment.
Follow your breath in and out for the next few moments.
Picture yourself in a cozy cabin.
This might be at the seaside,
Near a lake,
Or in the mountains.
You are inside and warm.
Outside,
You can hear the rumblings of a distant storm.
You look around your cabin and are comforted.
You have everything you need right here in this space.
You have food and water and wood for a fire.
The cabin is built from solid wood beams with windows with thick panes of glass.
You are safe here.
You settle easily into a cushiony armchair and hold your favorite hot drink in your hands.
You put your nose to the mug and inhale the scent.
The steam feels soothing and you sigh in contentment.
Your armchair is positioned just to the side of a large window that looks over a covered veranda.
Sitting here,
You are snugly sheltered and you have a perfect view of the storm rolling in.
All around the cabin,
You hear smatterings of raindrops beginning to land.
There is light upon the horizon and you are ready to settle in for a peaceful summer rain.
The raindrops pick up in intensity and you smile happily.
The sound of falling rain is so comforting,
So soothing.
You feel your body relax even more.
You close your eyes and listen to the rainfall.
The life-giving rain.
You imagine the rain soaking into the ground and nourishing the earth and the plants nearby.
It calms you.
You feel content.
You feel connected and whole.
Sit awhile.
Listen to the rainfall.
Listen closely to it.
The rainfall continues and you are glad of the downpour.
It allows you to simply feel and be present for this time.
Eventually you hear the rain begin to ease with a softer beat upon the windows and the roof.
Outside you notice a slight lightening in the sky.
You begin to stretch your arms and legs and ready yourself to move about again.
You are relaxed and refreshed.
You are ready for whatever comes next.
As you hear the chimes you can open your eyes and begin your day again.
