The Gifts Of Humility
How great are the Gifts of Humility. A talk with quotations on Humility, plus a meditation on the role humility can play in your life. Humility is not practiced or talked about that often, but it can be a very useful tool for learning how to let go of your Ego. Rick Warren said, "True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less" According to Mother Teresa To pass over the mistakes of others To accept insults and injuries andTo accept being slighted, forgotten.

Aloha,
I'm Cindy Palos and I wanted to talk about a subject that doesn't get talked about hardly at all anymore.
It's humility.
I think part of this is because of social media.
There's always such a desire to post good things about yourself on some of these social media sites,
Right?
And also,
I think there's an element that doesn't get discussed often,
Which has to do with the fact that women for a long,
Long time never really got their fair due and often they had to take a back seat to others and men.
And so to work hard and really fight for yourself sometimes made you be more aggressive in trying to assert yourself and be recognized.
And that's a hard one,
Right?
That's a difficult subject.
I know because I've been in radio all my life and when I began in radio,
There was hardly any woman involved and it was kind of doing a man's job,
A woman trying to do a man's job and not getting recognized for it.
But I started thinking about humility the other day and I looked at some quotes about humility.
I'm surprised on this one from Ernest Hemingway that says,
There's nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man.
True nobility is being superior to your former self.
Now that's an interesting thought,
Isn't it?
And there's another quote here that I found from Rick Warren,
True humility is not thinking less of yourself.
It's thinking of yourself less.
Now that's a very interesting one,
Thinking less of ourselves,
Right?
And so that's kind of turning our own ego aside and trying to work for the greater good.
And we don't often see that as much as we might have and sometimes.
Humility is an interesting term that kind of has almost gone out of style,
Right?
Think of nobility as an ancient term,
Right?
But the wonderful Mother Teresa wrote in The Joy in Loving,
A Guide to Daily Living,
She wrote about humility in this way,
To speak as little as possible of oneself,
To mind one's own business,
Not to want to manage other people's affairs,
To avoid curiosity.
Well,
That's an interesting one.
To accept contradictions and corrections cheerfully,
Oh my,
To pass over the mistakes of others,
To accept insults and injuries,
To accept being slighted,
Forgotten and disliked,
And to be kind and gentle,
Even under provocation.
So aren't those interesting thoughts some interesting thoughts to digest there?
So where does humility play a role in our world today?
I wrote this poem about it.
Humility is not a word that often comes to my mind to seek to observe in any given time.
When one seeks for recognition needing self-esteem,
Being humble does not quite fit in the ego's greater scheme.
And yet I'm humbled every day by the grace God shows to me in so many interesting ways.
Ah,
Nature,
The beauty of a sunrise can stop me in my tracks,
Even a rooster rising early to announce the given fact that there's a new day to face life while still intact.
In moments of gratitude,
Some humility will slip in when I wonder at the synchronicity of so many coincidences that remind me to look within.
Then I stop and wonder,
How did God do that?
And I bow deep to the deeper side,
Some part of what it learns,
What we can learn from the teachers that we might lack.
Lord,
Help me to show humility for what's greater far than I.
For I am the student of life struggling on the path as you help me to get by.
So this is not so humble me,
Your servant.
Don't ask why.
I ask for forgiveness if I may in not recognizing with humility the grace you show each day.
So humility is an interesting thing.
I've been working on a book called The Sacred Tools of Life and I realized I hadn't put humility in there and I went,
You know,
I have to address that because humility is one of the great tools we need to learn when we turn our will over and let go and let God be in control.
And that's not an easy practice.
In fact,
It kind of takes daily reminders.
So that's why I'm talking about it.
Now let's go into meditation,
Doing some clearing breaths here,
Just kind of relaxing and going into your sacred site within,
Breathing in deeply and just letting go of any tension,
Boy,
If you're feeling any tension on your neck or your shoulders or your head,
Just breathe in and let go of that tension,
Any stress that might have occurred.
Breathing in deeply and holding your breath for a second or two and then just releasing and letting go and letting go and letting go.
Let that beautiful robe of peace come and be surrounding you right now.
Be completely surrounded by the beauty in the sacred robe of peace that you can put on right now.
And again,
Let your neck and shoulders let go of any tension right now.
Breathing in and going into your heart,
Breathing in deeply there.
Going into that beautiful area where all of your organs that need to be cleansed might be your liver and your kidneys and your spleen and your pancreas.
Just let all of that area be completely surrounded in a beautiful,
Beautiful circle of light and on down to any of the emotions and your second chakra and the base chakra.
Breathing in and seeing this beautiful light flowing up and down your spine as you breathe in,
Let that radiant light come up to the top of your head as you breathe out,
Letting that light come down to the base of your spine in front.
Now let's just take a couple of moments of gratitude breaths.
Gratitude is very,
Very powerful in releasing the ego and helping us to be humble because we realize how much we've been giving and so many blessings that we have.
So let's just breathe in gratitude and breathe out being grateful and letting the light of gratitude fill every single part of your body,
Mind and soul.
Breathing in,
Breathing out,
Breathing in gratitude from your place inside that heart of hearts.
Breathing in and letting everything go.
Let go of your ego.
Let go of any thoughts that your whole entire body be surrounded in a lovely,
Beautiful white light.
Letting that light extend out and put yourself in a place where you can totally be grateful,
Totally grateful for all the gifts others have given you.
Start with your young life and realize how many people loved you,
How many people helped you out,
Your mother,
Relatives,
Loving you,
Holding you,
Encouraging you,
Teaching you.
Be grateful for your first teachers in school and your friends.
Be grateful for all of those who are supporting you along the way as you grew up.
And gratitude out to all the people that might have been there who loved you and helped you along the way.
There were so,
So many people who were there to help you grow up.
And in your teenage years,
Who was there to support you?
Give great thanks to all the teachers and any relationships you've had that you need to be grateful for to let go of.
And continue to realize your soul was always there and take some time to be grateful for your soul of souls.
Always watching out there.
Any guardian angels that have been there to guide you along the way,
Send them gratitude.
And now let's go inside and find that space where we can connect with the one source of all creation.
The great teacher within and that part of you that's connected to the God source.
The creative source of all.
Let's be grateful and humble for our life when we look now at how we've been given all the tools we need to live and all the people we've had who've loved us.
Let's be grateful and share our gratitude with them right now.
And let's forgive anything that we've had in our life that's made us feel like we've had to fight,
That we've had to struggle to be recognized.
Take anything that you've built up in walls there and just open up those walls,
Break them down and see the love that lies behind those walls.
Send your love and light out to yourself from your highest place of your objective observer.
Send love and understanding and compassion for how you've lived your life.
And know that it's okay,
That it's okay to let go,
Let go.
Let God be in control.
Great grace,
Great gratitude,
Great humbleness can work wonders in life.
You don't have to fight your battles.
You don't have to struggle.
You can turn that all over to your soul and to your guardian angels and to God and just let those battles go.
And for a moment,
Find that peace,
That great peace that passeth all understanding.
When you realize you don't have to fight,
There's this wonderful peace that takes place within.
Spend a few wonderful moments of peace right here and now.
Breathe it in,
Absorb it,
Feel it,
Be grateful for it.
Now slowly come back to your mind,
Your body,
Your soul,
Believing in how great this power of humility really is,
How great the power of being grateful is.
And now just take a moment to realize that God's got your back,
That things are going to be all right,
That you can let go and let God and you can just be a humble servant of God's will.
It's not easy necessarily,
But you can do it.
Take the intention,
Practice humility and all gratefulness and humbleness.
I appreciate you so much for being there and listening.
God bless you always.
