Dealing With Resistance

Resistance often shows up when something important is trying to shift within us. In this meditation, we will gently turn toward feelings of resistance with curiosity rather than judgment. By listening to what resistance has to teach us, we can soften its grip and create space for greater ease, clarity, and forward movement.

So take some time to get yourself settled.

Relaxing into your space.

Letting go of everything beyond where you are right now.

Take a deep breath in through your nose.

And exhale through your mouth.

Allowing yourself these moments,

These minutes to come into stillness.

To connect with yourself and what you need.

To bring your attention now fully to your breath.

And just notice how you are breathing.

Without changing it for now.

Just notice your normal breath.

Notice the rise and fall of your belly and your chest.

Notice how the air feels.

Notice how you feel.

Now begin to gently deepen your breath.

Next time breathing in for a count of four.

Hold for a count of two.

And exhale for six.

Deepening that out breath.

Repeat this a couple of times.

Allowing the exhale to release any tension in your body.

Now allow your jaw to soften.

Your shoulders to fully relax.

Allow your belly to soften.

And with each full breath your nervous system is beginning to unwind.

You'll start to notice yourself settling.

Supported by the chair,

By the floor,

By the earth.

Now today we're going to focus on resistance.

We often feel resistance in life.

We resist the things that make us uncomfortable.

That scare us.

But resistance is just energy trying to protect you.

It shows up when something feels unfamiliar or uncertain.

And it shows up when you're starting to expand beyond where you've been.

So bring your awareness into your body.

And notice where this resistance might live.

Notice where it could be right now.

It might feel like pressure in your chest.

Maybe tightness in your stomach.

Or a heaviness around your heart.

Wherever it is,

Don't try to change it for now.

Just notice it.

Be with it.

And breathe into that space.

Inhaling gently into the area.

And exhaling.

Imagine your breath is softening the space.

Melting the resistance.

Loosening the grip of its control.

As you breathe,

You create more space within you.

Instead of pushing it away,

You're meeting it with compassion.

And tell your body it's safe to feel this.

But it's also safe to grow.

To change.

To do something different.

Tell your body it's safe.

And notice how your body responds.

Telling your body it's safe is offering your body permission.

And with this permission comes softness.

Now notice above your head a beautiful,

Warm,

Glowing light.

And allow that light to come down through your head.

Allow it to wash through your mind,

Washing away self-doubt.

And worry.

Down through your neck and shoulders.

Washing away the shoulds and the musts and the have-tos.

Down through your chest and your heart space.

Washing away any tightness around your heart.

Allow it to fill your stomach and your hips.

And as it does,

It's grounding you in more calm and stability.

Allow it to move down into your legs,

Down into your feet,

Grounding you.

And with each breath,

Allow more of this energy in.

This golden energy replaces resistance.

Bring more of it in,

Making sure some of it goes down from your shoulders,

Into your arms and hands.

Washing away any resistance in your hands,

These creative centres.

Just feel that golden light wash right through you.

Softening,

Releasing tension everywhere it touches.

Now,

Scan your body.

And go back to where the resistance was,

Where the tightness is.

And if it's still there,

Just see it as a darker energy.

A different colour to your golden light.

Bring more golden light in and watch how the golden light changes the darkness.

How it lightens the colour as it meets it.

How it softens it.

How the darker light dissipates as the golden light floods in.

We're not pushing it away.

We're bringing more love to it,

More acceptance.

And as we do,

It starts to recede.

This golden light is allowing movement,

Allowing inspiration,

Allowing more possibility.

You are no longer holding and resisting life.

You are moving with it.

Now,

As you rest in this space,

Repeat these affirmations.

I release the need to control what comes next.

I trust the timing of my life.

It's safe for me to relax and receive.

Remember,

Resistance is just a sign that you're growing.

A signal to allow you to step forward into alignment and into more flow.

So take a few nice,

Big,

Deep breaths,

Allowing all of this to settle into your nervous system,

Into your mind,

Into your soul.

And as we come to a close,

Notice how your body feels right now.

Lighter,

More present.

And if there is a little bit of resistance still there,

You can always repeat this meditation.

Because the goal isn't really to eliminate it.

It's just to meet it differently.

Accept it.

Embrace it.

And have compassion for yourself.

Take one final,

Big,

Deep breath in.

And in your own time,

Come back to your room and to your day.

And make that a beautiful inner day.
