See pain as your teacher - arrive at your power. In this meditation we contemplate pain - we scan back on our history becoming aware of moments or emotive charges which reside in our body - traumas that may be skewing our perception and capacity to live with joy. In progressively opening to these and emoting their unprocessed contents, we arrive at a compassionate viewpoint that embraces pain as a signal for growth and awakened living.

Welcome to this meditation,

Pain to power.

Today we're going to be looking into pain,

Anything we have accumulated within us,

Anything that may be causing imbalance and suffering,

And see how we can turn this into power,

See how we can begin to relate to pain as a teacher,

And in doing so discover what our heart,

What our soul is really calling out for.

So as we begin now,

We're just going to come into a comfortable seated position,

Straightening the spine,

And finding a relaxed rhythm of breath,

So really just slowing everything down.

Breathing,

Inhaling through the nose,

And exhaling through the nose.

And as you do this,

Just feeling how on the exhale you can really let go,

You can really relax into that motion.

And perhaps the mind drifts off a little bit,

Perhaps the mind wanders into thoughts or thinking,

You simply just bring it back here.

Into the breath.

And we're going to now become aware of the physical pain in our body.

So just touching base with any tension or anywhere,

Just having a little scan through the body,

Noticing anywhere that has accumulated tension or is aching.

And I'd like you just to focus on one area to start with,

Perhaps it's the shoulders,

Perhaps it's deep in the chest,

Perhaps it's in the pit of your stomach.

Wherever you feel that,

Just touch base with that,

And see if you can begin focusing your breath into that place,

Into that space.

Really allowing the pain to fully show itself to you,

To fully experience it.

And with every exhale,

Just bringing a little bit of ease into that space,

Breathing just a little bit more of nourishment,

Nourishing breath.

And keeping your attention on this same area,

Becoming aware of any emotion that may be intertwined or related to this area.

Perhaps it's a sense of anger,

Frustration,

Perhaps it's a shyness,

A fear,

Perhaps it's a sense of sadness or a deep sorrow.

Whatever kind of resonates with you from these words,

Whatever feels true to you,

Just allow that emotion to arise in connection to the pain.

Without fighting it,

Just experiencing it fully moment by moment.

Just letting yourself even be that,

Really emote that,

Feeling the energetic charge and texture of that emotion.

Taking a slightly deeper inhalation,

Exhale just breathing a little bit more ease into that area.

We're now going to shift our perception towards the past.

It's very often that as we go through life,

Grow and live many experiences,

That some things traumatise us,

Some things we hold on to,

Some things we never quite get over.

And so now is going to be an opportunity for us to reflect on these,

Be fully authentic with ourselves,

And just as with the same awareness and breath,

Come to release and let go of these past traumas and pains.

So I want you to first reflect on something that happened this week,

Something in the recent past,

Something in your life that caused you pain,

Physical,

Emotional pain,

Some kind of trauma.

And just take your time for that whole scenario to form in your mind.

And instead of looking at where the pain,

Or trying to look from where the pain came from,

We're just going to embrace the sensation of that pain.

Just really allow yourself now to feel how it felt,

How it feels.

And perhaps you even relate it to a part of your body,

Perhaps you even feel it in your heart,

In your lower back,

In your organs.

Just let it ripple,

Let that pain again fully show itself to you and allow yourself to fully express it.

This is a safe space now.

Staying calm with your breath,

But looking deeper into this wound.

And it's nothing you need to rationalize,

It's nothing you need to understand.

We're simply just feeling it now and going through this process.

Taking a deep inhalation and exhale.

Breathing now with a little bit more ease,

Breathing a little bit more nourishing breath into this realm of pain,

Into this narrative that we've opened.

And coming back into neutral now,

Just focusing on the breath again,

Letting that memory just kind of dissipate.

We're now going to think about a longer time period,

So perhaps five,

Ten,

Twenty years ago.

Just whatever moment comes to you right now,

Just trust really whatever comes to you.

Of pain in the past,

Something that traumatized,

Something that was very strong and comes to your mind now.

Maybe a couple of things calm or a series of events,

That's also okay.

Just kind of embrace the energy intuitively as you scan your perception into the distant past.

Just try to kind of recollect that time in your life.

Think about what was happening in your life around that and importantly now how it made you feel.

And just as before,

Is there an anger there,

A resentment?

Is there a sadness,

Sorrow?

What kind of emotions are entangled and tied into this pain?

And once again,

Just allow yourself to feel,

However uncomfortable it may seem,

Just to experience this pain.

Let it run through your body,

Almost like rain falling,

Dripping down on you,

Or like a waterfall running down your heart.

So really with your breath start to encode,

Start to create this direction.

So the pain is kind of flowing through you smoothly as you breathe.

And as you do this,

Slowly really surrendering and just letting go to the natural healing intelligence of your body.

Taking a deep inhalation and exhalation.

And we're going to do one final round now.

Really scanning back to further than we might even be able to remember.

So the birthing process can sometimes even be a trauma in itself,

Coming into this world,

Coming to this foreign land,

Being separated from the mother.

And many spiritual traditions also have the idea of karma,

Reincarnation,

Past lives.

So we're going to really go back into our genetic history,

Our spiritual history now,

With our intention.

So on this next breath,

Really begin to dream into the past,

Just lightly allowing anything that kind of trickles through into your consciousness in this moment.

It might come through in a visualisation,

It might come as a flash of memory,

It might come as a somatic and body anchored sensation.

Just let it arise.

Let it build in energy.

You can almost play with it,

Really revive it and give it texture and flavour with your breath.

And once you have it,

Once you have it there,

Really just surrendering,

Letting go.

And you can even bring your awareness now into your heart,

So you can rest in your heart and just imagine that all these attachments,

All these past traumas,

All these interruptions and degenerative aspects of our coding and life possibility can just kind of peel away.

And you're kind of just left floating with a feeling of nothingness,

With a slight unknown,

But you just trust this,

Just let go into this.

Breathing lightness into your heart,

Cultivating a sense of compassion and self-love for everything you have experienced,

For pain in the way it can be a signal,

A teacher,

In the path of unravelling our highest self and soulful nature.

And really just almost paying a moment of honouring for your process and appreciation towards the pain itself.

So whenever you face it,

Whenever you encounter it in your life,

You can almost just embrace it with this love and compassion,

With all the strength and will.

Just breathing with all of that.

And taking a slightly deeper breath now,

Inhale,

Exhale.

Gently coming into your self again,

Keeping the eyes closed,

But maybe you want to move your fingers a little bit.

Maybe you become aware of your body and the space on the chair,

However you're seated.

You become aware of the temperature of the air around you.

Very gently just coming back into your body in this place,

In this time.

Thank you very much for listening.

Namaste.
