Make yourself comfortable in your favourite position for falling asleep and gently close your eyes.
Take a slow full deep breath in and slowly let it go.
It's time to set the world aside,
Let go of your day and begin your gentle transition into sleep.
Now take another slow full deep breath and as you breathe out let any tension in your body slowly release.
All there is to do now is relax,
Rest and let sleep gently restore and rejuvenate your mind and body.
Imagine yourself standing on the shore of a lovely tropical island.
It's evening and the sun is just now setting and you watch as the orange ball begins to touch the horizon.
Casting a beautiful golden glow over the sea.
The light blue sky is beginning to glow yellow and pink where it meets the ocean.
Deepening into shades of dark blue and purple higher up in the sky.
You are more than ready to welcome the night time and the sky has begun to draw its curtain on another day.
A short stroll down the beach is a little hideaway cottage with a screened in porch where you can lie on a big comfy bed,
Listen to the waves and let the sounds rock you gently to sleep.
And so you begin your gentle stroll to this little secluded cottage which is set up just for you.
You work barefoot at the edge of the warm tropical water.
You love the way your heels sink in a little with each step.
It's a wonderful rocking motion that seems to go so well with the way the water thins out onto the sand and then recedes.
And then returns to wash your feet with its salty foam.
The ocean air feels so warm and pleasant on your skin.
And the smells of the ocean and the scents of the blossoming trees nearby are softly intoxicating.
Beginning to make you feel a little bit drowsy.
Soon you come to your cottage,
Open the screen door and sit on the edge of the bed looking out at the sea and the sky.
The first stars have begun to come out and you take some time to just sit there and watch them appear one by one.
As the last light of the day begins to fade and the sky darkens to a deep velvet.
Perhaps you can see the slither of the new moon set just so,
Not far above the horizon.
You slowly make your way to lying down on this beautiful big and comfortable bed that is covered in soft cotton sheets and a warm and snuggly blanket.
Your pillow feels as soft as a cloud and you sink deep into it.
The bed is the most comfortable bed you have ever been in and you start to feel your body relax and let go of any stiffness from the day.
Beginning with your feet allow all the tension to go out of them now.
They've worked hard for you all day and deserve a rest.
And so the relaxation in your feet begins to find its way into your ankles,
Your calves and your knees.
And now relax your upper legs,
Your hips and your buttocks.
And now feel this relaxation flowing up into your abdomen and lower back and your upper back and chest.
Feel this peaceful,
Relaxing feeling flowing down your arms,
Into your hands and out of your fingertips.
And then up into your neck,
Head and face you slowly feel this wave of relaxation wash over your face,
Your forehead,
Your eyes and all the little muscles around your eyes start to relax.
Your nose,
Your cheeks and then your mouth and your lips slowly begin to relax.
And this beautiful feeling of letting go travels onto your chin and along your jawline to your ears.
Now feel your whole body from your toes to the top of your head.
It is perfectly calm,
Relaxed and ready for sleep.
And just to make sure there's nothing left between you and a gentle full night's sleep,
Imagine the very top of your head opens and out floats any thoughts that might still be trapped inside.
To find their way into the beautiful starry night sky far above the sea and drifting out of sight.
Your mind feels clear of any worries left over from the day and you have no thoughts about tomorrow.
It's completely clear and ready to drift off to sleep.
Soon you'll be sound asleep off on a peaceful journey into dreamland that will carry you all through into morning.
So as you continue to listen to the waves outside,
Begin to follow your breath in and out and listen to the following words softly lulling you into a deep and relaxed state.
As you breathe in,
Say soft and as you breathe out,
Say sleep.
As you breathe in,
Say deep and as you breathe out,
Say peace.
Soft sleep,
Deep peace.
