You may be challenged with a task or situation at home, at work or somewhere else in life that you find hard to surrender to with acceptance, confidence and trust. This meditation aims to help you learn the art of surrender using a metaphor of a bird's flight. We start with a short reflective talk, breath awareness, and then move into a guided visualization. Much love and gratitude, Canel

Birds are widely associated with freedom,

Outlook and eternity because of their ability to soar into the skies.

However,

When we observe their flight,

We get to see another quality.

Surrender.

Birds have two main modes of flight,

Flapping flight and soaring or gliding flight.

Both rely on their wings,

But in different ways.

The former is controlled,

The latter is effortless.

They surrender.

The art of surrender is difficult for us humans.

Our natural inclination is to control everything.

We believe we need to analyze and predict every step to ensure it will go our way.

However,

The need to control every situation causes resistance to the natural flow of life.

It can cause great suffering when it won't go our way and when situations seem unpredictable,

Unstable and uncertain.

This meditation was designed for you to surrender to the unknown with comfort,

Confidence and connection to the unfolding present moment,

Creating an inner knowing that you have everything within you to deal with the situation at hand.

My name is Janelle and I'll be guiding you through your meditation today.

If you haven't done so already,

Please find a comfortable upright seated position with your eyes closed.

If closing the eyes is uncomfortable for you,

It's okay to leave them slightly open,

Keeping a soft gaze just in front of you.

You can let your hands rest on your lap,

Palm facing up or down,

Whatever you prefer.

Let's take one big breath together,

Taking in all the stress we accumulated today on our inhale and letting it all go on our exhale.

Inhale and exhale.

Letting it all go.

It doesn't serve us anymore.

You're here right now in this moment.

Non-judgmentally become aware of your body.

How is it doing today?

Become aware of your mind.

And how is your mind doing today?

Simply note whatever thoughts,

Sensations and emotions arise.

Become aware of your breath.

Simply breathe and observe with kindness.

When you notice your mind is drifting off to other thoughts,

Simply return to your breath or to my voice.

Just breathe.

On your inhale,

Feel your breath moving from your belly through your chest to your throat and out through the nose.

On your out breath,

Let your lips touch,

Making the sound of a humming bee.

Like this.

Inhale and exhale.

Do this for six more times in your own rhythm.

Synthetic enemy You You Now move your awareness to your forehead to your third eye the point between your eyebrows and visualize a flying bird It can be a swallow and albatross and eagle or any other how does the bird look like?

How tall is it What colors does it have Does it make sounds if so,

What do they sound like?

And how does the surrounding landscape look like?

Picture it in all its detail Picture it in all its detail Imagine your bird moving with grace through the air Maybe it looks like it's going in circles or back and forth Or maybe every now and then it needs to return to flapping wings mode.

It's of course correct due to strong winds In whatever way it's moving Observe its unique flight with joy How does its flight feel like to you?

Perhaps like freedom connection or flow Whatever comes up let it knowing you're surrendering to the unfolding of the present moment Now visualize how your bird is rising higher and higher without ever flapping its wings See how it's gliding effortlessly See how it's gliding effortlessly.

It surrenders to the unknown of its journey.

It surrenders to the unfolding of the present moment To be able to fly long distances Birds use a technique called thermal soaring where they find hot rising pockets of air and Use the currents to stay up and fly higher While this type of air is considered unstable or bumpy it allows them to save energy They otherwise would waste by flapping their wings They handle bumpy air as a free energy saving left They soar freely without the need to control how high or how fast they're going and how they look like in the process They let go of all their worries and rise above to explore the unknown the unlimited possibilities in the skies Now visualize a situation where you have a hard time letting go of control because you don't know what the future may bring Now visualize a situation where you have a hard time letting go of control because you don't know what the future may bring Observe any thoughts feelings or sensations that may arise and be non-judgmentally present with them Ask yourself,

What am I trying to control?

What am I really scared of?

What am I scared of?

What is likely to happen if I gave into fear?

Do I trust that the universe has my best interest at heart?

What could happen if I were to take on the quality of the bird surrendering to the unknown,

The field of unlimited possibilities?

What could happen?

Observe how your thoughts,

Feelings or sensations may change Surrender to your breath,

Inhale and exhale Surrender to your breath,

Inhale and exhale Surrender to your breath,

Inhale and exhale Now repeat to yourself silently or out loud,

I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be right now I let go of the need to control the how and surrender knowing that the universe will handle the how for me I invite you to put your left hand on your forehead and your right hand on your heart If you physically impeded or don't feel like doing so,

Rest in any position that feels comfortable for you Now repeat after me,

Dear mind,

I know you have an evolutionary interest to control every detail to keep us safe We are safe now,

I give you permission to surrender into the unknown because it holds unexplored opportunities for us Dear heart,

I make space for you to speak,

I make space for you to express the infinite possibilities you hold for me I trust and surrender to your guidance,

Knowing that you will provide me with the right actionable insight at the right time By connecting to yourself,

You tap into your inner wisdom,

Discovering that nature has given you all the tools to handle any situation Just like the birds,

We also move long distances on our journeys We don't always know what winds will encounter,

Some require us to flap our wings,

Some allow us soaring surrender Often,

However,

We get afloat with all our worries and concerns about the future We go into flapping wings mode when there's actually bumpy air that could give us a free energy saving lift if we only surrendered Sometimes we even try to avoid that bumpy air because it seems unfamiliar and unsafe But when we remember that birds use soaring as the art of surrender to the unknown to their advantage And that we can do the same,

We open doors for ourselves to experience flow,

To tap into joy,

Love,

Passion and equanimity of the present moment Surrender is the art of letting go with trust and acceptance of the here and now Of letting go of control,

Of letting go of expectations,

Of how the future and every step of our journey is supposed to unfold Surrender teaches us the skill to enjoy the journey of life and with practice we can turn it into a quality that comes easily and naturally to us Like it comes for the birds Surrender to your breath,

Inhale And exhale For a couple of moments rest in your breath,

Rest in existence,

Rest in the unknown,

Rest in the unfolding of the present moment When you're ready,

Slowly open your eyes Namaste
