Coming Home To Your True Self
by Canel Soul
Sometimes we get caught up in the outside world, taking care of yet another errand on our list, and forget taking care of our inner world, allowing ourselves room to breathe. This may be because feelings of unworthiness, not enoughness, or insignificance cloud the sun living in our hearts. But just like with the weather, no matter how cloudy it is, our sun is always there. This meditation aims to help you cultivate self-love and self-remembrance so you can come home to your true self.

Hi my fellow being,
I'm Janelle Thay and I welcome you to the coming home to your true self meditation.
Let's take a few moments to settle in.
Find a comfortable seated position that feels right for you.
Maybe you want to take a deep breath releasing the air with a big sigh.
Breathe however it feels right for you in this moment.
Give yourself permission to be here.
To be present with yourself.
Sometimes we get caught up in the outside world,
Taking care of yet another errand on our list and forget taking care of our inner world instead,
Allowing ourselves room to breathe.
Other times perhaps feelings of unworthiness,
Not enoughness or insignificance cloud the sun living in your heart.
But just like with the weather,
No matter how cloudy it is,
Your sun is always there.
This time is reserved only for your spiritual self care,
For cultivating self love and self remembrance,
For coming home to your true self.
In this meditation we'll walk through your different homes in order to release all limiting beliefs and to integrate new empowering ones.
If at any point in time it might be too uncomfortable for you,
Return to your breath and be kind to yourself.
Now if you haven't done so already,
Close your eyes and let's begin.
Gently breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth releasing all the accumulated stress.
Inhale and exhale.
Inhale and exhale.
Do this a couple of times now in your rhythm.
There's nowhere you need to be right now.
Nothing to do.
Just breathe here in this moment.
Now bring your attention to the space around you.
Retrieve the mental image.
Where are you?
Is it big or small?
Warm or cold?
What sounds can you perceive?
Observe them without judgement and ground yourself in their presence.
When we invite distractions in,
We encourage them to move out.
How does your body feel in this space?
Notice any sensations you may be having between your eyebrows and your jaw,
Chest,
Belly or the lower part of your body.
Whatever comes up,
Allow it to be and ground yourself in its presence.
Focus here for a reason,
To be a part of your impermanent experience.
Maybe there are some body parts you feel they could use some special attention.
Send them love now.
Notice you want to lay your hands on your heart and thank it for beating.
If you have never kissed your hands or your arms,
I invite you to do this now.
This will create a special connection between you and the body that provides a home for your soul.
As we move along,
Your mind will try to impose itself with thoughts.
Loving ourselves isn't always easy,
Because we mistake the thoughts of self-judgment,
The voices of negative self-talk in our minds as for our true selves.
When in fact,
These thoughts and voices are visitors to our mind,
Just like clouds are visitors to the sky trying to cover up the sun.
Acknowledge them and embrace them,
Sending them love and kindness.
Whenever your mind starts to wander,
Return to your breath.
It opens the door to home.
Breathe in and out gently.
Now let's pay attention to the home in your mind.
Imagine your mind would be a house.
What kind of rooms does it have?
Maybe one for getting things done,
One for entertainment and one storage room for limiting beliefs and overthinking.
And what condition is each room?
Beautifully decorated,
Sunny,
Inviting the joy,
Or rather worn off like it could use a refurbish?
Perhaps it's a mixture,
Some are being more curated than others.
Let's walk together into your storage room.
What can you see?
If you can't see anything,
Try to allow yourself to find the light switch.
Are you alone in the room?
Or are they maybe boxes of seemingly forgotten memories,
Old broken stories awaiting repair or limiting beliefs about your self-worth?
Whatever it is,
Explore it openly and non-judgmentally.
Can you hear different voices arguing with each other?
Are these voices of someone else like a family member?
Or are they of self-judgment and unworthiness?
Whatever they are,
It's okay.
They want to be heard,
But that doesn't mean you have to believe them.
Perhaps these limiting beliefs and voices have helped you overcome challenges in the past and had moved in without you knowing.
They may seem real,
But they're not true.
They're not the true you.
So let's clean them out together.
Look towards these voices or objects to examine them.
What can you find there?
Look at them with compassion as if you would with a dear friend who's struggling.
Ask yourself,
How did this serve me in the past?
Does it still serve my well-being today?
If the answer is yes,
Ask yourself why you have stored them away.
What might be the reason for it?
And can you decide to invite them in with love or let them go?
If you can't just yet because it's too uncomfortable,
That's perfectly fine.
Return the focus to your breath as the doorway to home.
Be compassionate with yourself.
Because the only way out is through,
It's not easy to shed deep root of pain and make room for healing.
It comes in your own divine time,
Step by step,
Moment by moment.
You're doing great.
If your answer is that it doesn't serve you today anymore,
Give thanks and let it go.
If you like,
Put your hand on your heart.
Feel your heartbeat and repeat after me.
I make room for self-love.
I make room for remembering who I truly am.
I am enough.
I am lovable.
I matter.
I'm significant.
I am joy.
I am love.
I am the sun.
I am presence.
I am.
I am proud of myself for taking this time to come home to my true self.
Return your attention to your breath.
Settle into the present moment.
Inhale and exhale.
Take a couple of deep breaths here.
Notice the gaps,
The minute pauses between the moments.
Let's try this together.
Think a specific thought like there's a heartbeat and observe what is instantly present before and after the thought.
See the still,
Silent and unbounded nature of this pause,
Pure awareness,
Existence and being.
Let's try this out with our breath.
Pay attention to every moment of your breathing process,
Noting the inhalation,
The pause between inhalation and exhalation,
The exhalation and the pause between exhalation and inhalation.
You can imagine it like observing a clock where the arms on the clock face move around in a circle.
I call this the circle breath.
We'll do one round together and then continue in your own rhythm.
Inhale.
Pause.
Exhale.
Pause.
Inhale again.
Continue in your own rhythm,
Paying attention to the inhalation,
The pause in between,
The exhalation,
The pause in between and then the inhalation again.
Inhale.
Pause.
Inhale.
Pause.
Inhale.
Be present and simply observe the feeling of infinite stillness arising in between your breath.
You're coming home.
Inhale.
Pause.
Inhale.
In this pause,
This gap,
This unlimited awareness,
Lives a true version of you,
The one who loves themselves,
Policing themselves with unbound trust and joy.
If your mind wanders away from the circle breath,
Note it and return your attention to it.
Inhale.
Pause.
Inhale.
Pause.
Inhale.
Pause.
Inhale.
Pause.
Inhale.
Inhale.
Pause.
Inhale.
The real you lives in the gap between your thoughts.
You can come home to your true self at any time by reconnecting to the pause,
The gap in between your thoughts,
Your breath and your heartbeat.
They are the doorways to home.
Now give yourself a hug and take a deep breath.
When you hug yourself,
You hug the world.
When you learn to love yourself,
You learn to love the world.
Self-care is community care.
When you take care of yourself mindfully,
It impacts all the beings in your community.
Breathe into this moment.
Pause.
Pause.
Pause.
Pause.
Pause.
Pause.
Pause.
Before you bring out your light to the world again.
You are the sun,
The infinite gap between your breath,
The eternal soul within your heart,
A unique expression of the expanding universe.
Put your hands together in front of your heart and take a final breath in here,
Bowing in gratitude.
Thank you for coming home to your true self today.
Namaste.

I didn’t realize how much I needed this meditation until I completed it. I felt so much better afterwards and could really feel where I haven’t been caring for myself as well as I could, giving in to my anxiety, feelings of unworthiness, and the inner critic. Thank you for this beautiful meditation, it’s definitely one to bookmark!
