As you settle your focus.
On the one who can get you across the water,
Through the storm,
And over the mountain.
Find your breath.
Breathe in and out.
Allow your mind to settle and your body to relax The book of Matthew describes Peter's encounter with Jesus on the lake.
As the disciples are frightened by his appearance on the water,
Jesus says,
Take courage.
It is I.
Don't be afraid.
Let those words settle your spirit right now.
Jesus is with you through your storm,
In front of your obstacles.
As Peter wants confirmation that it is indeed Jesus on the water,
He says,
Tell me to come to you on the water.
He knows if Jesus says to come,
Even if it's water that separates them,
He can come.
So Jesus,
He simply says,
Come.
Peter's question highlights this faith.
Jesus's response acknowledges it.
And as Peter takes his first step,
He's walking on water until the wind blows.
Was the wind that blowing before?
Was it not a storm all around them?
So then why did Peter notice the wind?
It's because his eyes weren't focused on Jesus anymore.
As you breathe,
Consider what areas of your life have you allowed the wind to distract you.
Train your eyes on Jesus,
Not the wind or the mountain ahead of you,
But on the one who will empower you to do the impossible.
As you encounter the world today,
Don't forget Jesus is right there with you.
And if you feel yourself sinking at any point,
Call out to him and he will help you.
