In a world that emphasizes so much doing rather than being,
Surrender might seem very passive.
However,
It doesn't mean that we don't have an aspiration or a desire to achieve some benefit or something that we would like to come to fruition.
However,
Sometimes it is our grasping and our clinging that gets in the way of things arriving at the proper time.
It's like trying to pick a fruit before it's ripe,
Before the tree is ready to give it away.
So even in prayer,
We might have a petition that means something to us,
Something that's dear to us.
So even the deepest yearnings of our heart,
We say with sincerity,
God,
You take care of this.
And it might not come in the way that we expect.
It might not even appear in the way that we conceived it.
But God looks into your heart,
Knows what is best.
And so rather grasping and holding on to something,
We just let go.
So if you can imagine yourself sitting next to God and hearing these words spoken to you.
How many things I do when the soul and so much spiritual material need turns to me,
Looks at me and says to me,
You take care of it,
Then close its eyes and rests.
In pain,
You pray for me to act,
But that I act in the way that you want.
You do not turn to me.
Instead,
You want me to adapt to your ideas.
You are not sick people who ask the doctor to cure you,
But rather sick people who tell the doctor how to.
You do not act in this way,
But pray as I taught you in the our Father hallowed be thy name that is be glorified in my need thy kingdom come.
That is,
But all that is in us and in the world be in accord with your kingdom.
I will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
That is,
In our need,
Decide as you see fit for our temporal and eternal life.
If you say to me truly,
I will be done,
Which is the same as saying you take care of it.
I will intervene with all my omnipotence and I will resolve the most difficult situations.
And so then we respond 10 times.
Oh Jesus,
I surrender myself to you.
Take care of everything.
Oh Jesus,
I surrender myself to you.

Oh Jesus,
I surrender myself to you.

I surrender myself to you.
Take care of everything.
So we sit for a few moments.
And allow that surrender to fully envelop us.
When in the same moment we feel deeply held in the palm of his hand.
We let that feeling wrap around us and hold us.
As we venture into the rest of our day or evening.
We hold this peace,
This ease,
This surrender deep inside.
Looking about the world in a different way.
And then we open our eyes to new possibilities,
To new directions where God might be pointing us.
