We are often told in times of difficulty to "Let go and let God." This can be more difficult than we anticipate as our understanding of our worldly connections can color our vision of what God can do for us.

Letting go and letting God is the easiest advice given,

And the hardest advice to follow.

In order to let go,

We have to admit that our prized intellect that is so flexible and able to see many perspectives isn't good enough.

In order to let go,

We have to say that our ability to make moves is as ineffective as making chess pieces out of sand.

In order to let go,

We have to relinquish the delusion that we ever understood the situation in its entirety.

So how do we do it?

How do we let go and let God?

We can acknowledge God's understanding,

It far surpasses ours.

We can acknowledge God's goodness,

He grants peace that surpasses all understanding.

But I think the attributes of God that we must acknowledge wholeheartedly,

The attributes that truly allow us to trust,

Are God's love for us and His desire to work all things for our good.

See,

This concept is weird because we've trusted people smarter than us,

And they've used their intelligence to manipulate.

We've known people who appear to be nicer than us,

And we've experienced the treachery behind their smiles.

So it makes sense that we would hunch our shoulders and wrap our arms around the dearest parts of ourselves wanting to trust no one,

Trying to make things work all by ourselves.

But even by ourselves,

We are the subtlest of betrayers because we are always surprised when we let ourselves down.

So we have to commit to our belief that God loves us.

We have to commit to the belief that He works everything out for our good.

Indeed,

After dealing with this treacherous world,

It is a leap of faith.

But if you leap,

You will find yourself securely in God's arms,

Realizing that He was holding you the entire time.

Thank you for listening.
