I Want Vs I Am
by Jamila Perry
Let's have a conversation about aspirations. Dreams are great but they are not enough. At some point, if you're going to manifest, you have to move from dreaming to doing.

I want versus I am.
Lately I've been listening to and reading inspirational texts to help me become my best self.
However,
Until now,
I've always been stumped by the concept of manifesting what I want into reality.
It finally hit me that in order to manifest,
I have to learn the difference between the state of I want and the state of I am.
I want is that beginning stage that allows you to contemplate,
Dream,
And fantasize about your greatest desires of how you would contribute to the world.
It makes for great conversation with our peers who are also in the I want phase.
In this phase,
We get applauded or doubted for our big dreams.
We spend hours making the dreams more elaborate,
But our dreams seem to remain just that,
Dreams.
Note that a lot of time seems to pass and your dreams that once inspired others now get a polite nod whenever you bring them up.
And then someone is brave or honest enough to say to you,
Okay,
So when are you going to get it done?
And then you're silent,
Even a little defensive and find a reason to call the question or a hater so you can continue dreaming.
I am is an action state.
You have moved from dreaming into doing.
You might be in the beginning steps,
But every moment you work,
You move closer and closer to reflecting the I am on the inside to looking like the I am on the outside.
This is manifesting.
This is where we tend to fall short when we ask God to manifest in our lives.
Look at this example.
You want to be a bodybuilder.
You dream it,
Research it,
And talk about it.
While you're in this phase,
You are not a bodybuilder.
You want to be a bodybuilder.
So you step out,
Join a gym and show up for your first bodybuilding training session.
The moment you lift that first weight,
You are a bodybuilder.
Do you look the part?
No,
Not yet.
So why are you considered a bodybuilder?
Because you are now behaving like a bodybuilder.
As long as you continue to behave like a bodybuilder in your workouts,
Your food choices,
Your activities,
You are a bodybuilder.
As long as you behave like this,
No one can convince you that you are not.
Even if you don't look like it yet,
You know you're putting in work.
And then one day you look like what you said you were.
And so it is with what we want in life.
It's great to pray and have faith,
But if we want to move from I want to I am,
We have to be willing to engage in the behavior of the person we want to be.
And as you behave that way,
You open up opportunities for God to add blessings that propel you even faster in the direction you want to go.
It is no coincidence that God is known as the great I am.
He is actively behaving in all the roles and capacities we know and capacities we know Him to be.

TY TY I no longer believe that I AM a title or job. Having been to war & war torn countries & having to start over life from rock bottom multiple times, when I viewed myself as a title, when that title no longer existed; it led to feeling hopeless & helpless, so that made me feel like I had no choices. When I changed the perspective of how I view I AM, it gave me the ability to see that I always have the authority in my life to make choices on the direction in which it is led. I AM: who am I? characteristics of myself. Now, I view I AM as who am I w/o all the external validations or stuff. Who am I whether I have possessions or not? I.E.= 1) I AM Love (no matter what happens or don't happen for me; I will always be love b/c that is my essence, which is something that can't be taken away by external people or things) 2) I AM resilient (no matter what happens or don't happen; I can choose daily to take small steps towards my goals. I agree w/ the other aspects of this concept that were mentioned. I want: desire Faith: the small daily, consistent work to achieve what I want or desire Namaste Peace Shalom πTeeπ

Canβt tell you how on time this is, Thank you, loved this ππΎβ€οΈ! I was just telling a family member, that we are created in His image, so when we speak over ourselves, we should always speak in what we are and believe and act in that manner. I never say I am broke, or I want, etc. Thank you!

I donβt think I ever thought about I AM (God) acting constantly as I AM (God) as a model for us in action vs want. Interesting
