Welcome to this chance to go in and quiet,

Center and settle.

Take a deep breath in.

Let it all out.

Welcome to a hit of hope.

There's something about toddlers.

They can be the cutest darn things as they give you a big,

Sloppy kiss and you smell like peanut butter for the rest of the day.

Inhale.

Exhale.

And we've all probably witnessed the toddler meltdown.

When the parent's grocery cart is full with frozen peas and ice cream and as the child screams,

You can see how exhausted and spent the parent is.

And it's in that moment that the parent has a decision to make.

What do I do?

Inhale.

Exhale.

If you are doing well right now,

That is wonderful.

May you continue to find the goodness and joy in life.

But almost everyone I know feels like their insides are overtired toddlers right now.

They are almost beside themselves with exhaustion and overwhelm.

It reminds me of something the indigenous poet,

Wawa-cha,

Once wrote.

The noise of my spirit shall speak very clear.

Inhale.

Exhale.

What is the noise of your spirit saying to you right now?

What is the deeper message your spirit is trying to tell you in this moment?

If your spirit animal is currently a toddler trapped in the throes of the terrible twos,

The message it might be trying to tell you is,

Let's stop.

Let's snuggle into a chair with something nourishing to eat and drink.

Let's close our eyes and quiet and rest.

Inhale.

Exhale.

As with a toddler,

Getting mad at the overtired spirit isn't going to help,

Nor is dragging it to six more places to get everything accomplished on the to-do list.

Stop.

Feel your sitting bones.

Soften the skin around your eyes and mouth.

Feel the cool breath as it enters your body.

Feel the warm breath as it leaves you.

Allow yourself this moment where you can be quiet,

Where you are enough,

Where you can grow still and centered.

What is it that you will give to your noisy spirit right now?

Stay with the quiet.

Stay with the breath.

Surrender.

Let go.

Be in your body.

Be in this moment.

Sit.

Breathe.

Be tender.

Be kind.

Handle your spirit with care.

And live light.

I have been feeling cranky the past few days. I think I’m more tired than I realized. Thank you for the reminder to check in with myself. This teacher shares so much wisdom with gentle humour. Many thanks.

I LOVE ❤️ infants, toddlers, and children until around the age of ten!! (After that, they are too sassy for me. I would smack them if I could)!! Right now my days are fantastic if I get the chance to hang out with the 2,3,and 4 year olds in my apartment building. The younger ones come from a single mom who is more than happy to let me play with them. They hug me so tight that they make my ❤️ smile! The 4 year old also lives with just his mom. Children are my world no matter what their moods may be. I love ❤️ them unconditionally with all my 🩷!

I had lost touch with you. So glad to find your meditations again. So helpful. I will be spending some time with a two year old tomorrow. Will probably listen to this again tomorrow night. Lol. Bless you Betsy for what you give to us ~

Always wise words exactly when I need them. Trying to live lighter day by day. Thanks for your teachings Betsy! (Ps. I did hand in my notice that day! Watch this space as my new life unfolds or perhaps collapses in on itself?)

You too Betsy. Maybe we should all have those "fragile" stickers you get at the post office...replace our pasted on smiles and let people know how we are really feeling...as you do so well....and we all appreciate it oxo

Did I ever need this right now. I thought I slept well last night. I felt rested. Had a great meditation eager in the morning. Felt positive for the day. Still, every little thing set me off. Cussing at the kitchen drawer because it won't stay open. Swearing horrifically at myself because I can't find my flashlight. Striving not to lash out at my pets simply for being themselves. SO stressed, and I'm not sure why. Until now. I fucking hate the holidays, and, counter to my lofty expectations, I get to spend them alone. Again. I've spent more than 40 hours in meditation over the last 3 weeks, and while it seems super helpful in the moment, 5 minutes out the door and my brow is creased and I'm fighting myself not to lash out. Damn but I need to manufacture a break. This helped. At least for a short time. Thank you.
