This loving-kindness (metta)-inspired prayer is designed to support your emotional healing. It is an invitation to listen to your emotions as if they were messengers informing you of something valuable about your subjective experience. It is an encouragement to befriend them non-judgmentally, welcome them, and offer them your undivided presence so they may move through you and transform. It is a reminder that your emotions may reveal deeper truths about who you are, what you want and need, where you come from, and where you are headed. You may repeat each line after me, write down the prayers that most resonate with you, listen, or leave the recording playing in the background.

May you allow your emotions to speak to you.

May you allow yourself to curiously listen to what they need to say while keeping an open mind.

As you listen,

May you soften your body,

Mind and heart.

May you see your emotions as messengers informing you about your experiences and integrity.

May you trust that your emotions have something valuable to say to you.

May you become aware of any tendency to override your feelings with thinking or expectation and practice returning your awareness to how you feel.

Your emotions are never too much or too little.

May you allow them to be as they are without judgement,

Whatever their intensity and however you are experiencing them at this very moment.

May you allow your emotions to be like visitors,

Welcoming them warmly and listening to them attentively.

May you rest in the knowing that your undivided presence is all your emotions need and that they will eventually leave.

Whenever you notice yourself tensing up against your emotions,

Resisting them,

May you soften by kindly and compassionately breathing into the tension and breathing out with a long exhale.

May you rest your awareness on the ever-changing sensations in your body,

Noticing how your sense of your body morphs and shifts as you tend to your emotions.

May the natural ebb and flow of your breathing and your unwavering presence allow your emotions to swiftly move through the ocean of your being,

Returning to shore.

May you be reminded that your emotions are energy in motion and are therefore constantly moving and transforming if only you allow them to.

May you be the non-judgmental witness your emotions need.

Though it is in our nature as human beings to seek pleasure and avoid difficult experiences,

As best as you can,

May you remain impartial to your emotions as they present themselves to you,

Noticing any resistance you may have towards them.

Fundamentally,

You are unconditional love and therefore can embrace and hold a warm and loving space for each emotion.

May you allow your emotions to deliver the deeper truths of who you are,

What you need and want,

Where you come from and are going in life.

May you allow your emotions to reveal yet another layer of the immensity and complexity of who you are so you may know yourself more deeply and share yourself authentically with others and the world.

As you come to accept your emotions,

May you become more accepting of yourself.
