Today I will give you a tool for accessing your inner knowing.
I was reading a book that I read a passage from everyday called A Journey to the Heart by Melody Beattie and the message was very timely for this meditation.
Whenever you find yourself drifting away,
Losing touch with yourself,
Jumping from the present to some far off point in the future,
Get back in your body.
So today I'm going to share a tool that comes from my yoga teacher training and will help you get back into your body.
You may have experienced it if you've ever done a yoga class.
It's called Ujjayi breathing.
Sometimes we have trouble getting out of our heads and when this happens to me,
I like to do Ujjayi breathing.
Connecting with your breath will help you instantly drop into your body.
So first what you'll do is open your mouth a little bit and relax your jaw.
Ujjayi breathing starts with a deep inhalation through your nose and on your exhalation slightly contract the back of your throat as you do when you whisper.
Softly whisper the sound ahhh as you exhale.
Imagine your breath fogging up a window.
When that feels comfortable,
Close your mouth and do the same thing.
Push the air down the back of your throat on the exhale and make that ocean sound.
This tool can be used when you're having trouble relaxing your mind so practice this often whenever you need to drop out of your head and into your heart.
So let's go within now and try it.
Close your eyes,
Relax your shoulders down your back and take a nice deep breath in through your nose and with your mouth open or closed,
Exhale and make that ahhh sound in the back of your throat.
We'll try this again.
Breathe in through your nose and with your mouth open or closed make that ocean sound from the back of your throat as you exhale.
Breathe in through your nose and on the exhale make that ocean sound in the back of your throat really pushing down the air.
Just continue this for the next few minutes until you feel you've really dropped down into that peaceful loving space between your heart and gut.
Close your breath now and come back to your natural breathing rhythm.
And for the next few minutes we'll drop in to this peaceful loving space and if you feel comfortable you can ask your inner knowing a question and just listen.
If you have trouble hearing anything you can use your ujjayi breathing on the exhale to drop deeper and listen more deeply within.
Now peace helpful.
