This 3 minute meditation introduces the idea of finding a “mute button” for your inner critic, either lowering its volume or turning it off completely. By repeatedly practicing this, you can form a habit of quieting negative self-talk and fostering a more peaceful mindset.

Transcript

So,

Taking a seat,

Relaxing,

Feet on the floor,

Hands on your lap,

Taking a gentle deep breath in and out,

And closing the eyes,

Allowing your eyes to release and relax.

Gently focusing on your breathing now,

Taking your time,

Softening and loosening,

Allowing your body to slow down at its own pace,

Easily and gently.

Most of us,

Without even realising it at times,

Are faced with a bombardment of criticism from our inner self.

Questions,

Concerns,

Worries.

This is so natural that at times we just accept it as the norm.

But there within your mind,

I wonder if you can find a mute button.

The same as you would have on a remote control for a television.

Perhaps you'd prefer just to turn the volume down rather than mute.

It's interesting that the inner mind,

For all its complexity,

Often responds best to something simple.

A gentle press on that mute button,

Or a turning down of the volume.

Now many of us have had that inner critic for years,

And so it may take a little bit of gentle effort to continue to turn down that volume,

To continue to press that mute button,

But that's how habits are created.

And with this simple technique,

A wonderfully positive habit can be created,

Teaching your mind that you no longer need that negative little voice.

Remember your mute button.

So having a gentle stretch,

A slightly deeper breath in and out,

You can open your eyes and return to the day.
