New Moon Chakra Meditation & Yoga Nidra
by Octavia Nasr
Welcome the new moon with a chakra balancing and an intention setting meditation. Raise your vibration to the chanting of the Beej (seed) Mantras to open and balance each chakra and meditate to the vibration. This practice includes full body awareness to invite deep relaxation, then a Chakra Meditation leading to Yoga Nidra. We close the practice with the Shanti Mantra. May you find peace, balance, and grounding as you join me for this auspicious meditation. Namaste!

Now lie down on your back.
Find your nest,
Your yoga nidra nest.
You want to place a blanket or a bolster under your knees to lift the knees to the level of the heart.
Separate your feet,
Separate your legs,
Not too much.
Just about a hip width difference.
Make sure your heels are touching the earth.
Your hips are solid on the earth,
Your spine as well.
Your shoulders,
Your arms,
Turn the palms up.
Move the arms a few inches away from the body.
Feel the back of the head on the floor or on the surface that you're lying down on.
Feel the earth supporting you.
Now the practice of yoga nidra begins.
Tonight's practice is very special.
It welcomes the new moon,
Which is an auspicious time for intention setting.
And today's practice is based on the chakras,
The energetic centers along our spine.
We will be chanting the bhij mantra for each chakra,
The seed mantra for each chakra to energize the chakras,
Awaken them,
Balance.
If you have a mala or a quarter of a mala,
108 beads is a full mala,
We will be chanting a quarter of a mala for each chakra.
I will do the chanting.
You can feel the vibration of the mantra in your body.
You can also hum it,
Repeat it,
You can let your mind repeat it.
There will be moments of silence long enough for your mind to repeat the mantra on its own.
For now,
Be aware of your body.
Be aware of the tips of your toes and the soles of your feet,
The tops of the feet,
The ankles,
The calves,
The shins,
The knees,
The kneecaps,
The space behind the knees.
Be aware of your thighs,
The inside of the legs,
The outside of the legs,
The front of the legs,
And the back of the legs.
Be aware of your hip joints,
Be aware of your groin,
Be aware of your perineum,
Your tailbone,
Your sacrum,
Your thoracic spine,
Your lumbar spine.
Be aware of your abdomen,
Your navel,
Your solar plexus.
Be aware of your right breast and left breast and the center of your chest.
Be aware of your throat,
Your shoulders,
Your armpits,
Your upper arms,
Your elbows,
Your forearms,
Your wrists,
The palms of your hands,
The back of your hands,
Your fingers,
Your finger bones,
The finger joints,
Finger pads,
Fingertips,
Fingernails.
Be aware of the inside of your arms,
The right side of your body,
The left side of the body,
The front of the body,
And the back.
Be aware of your throat,
Be aware of your neck,
Your cervical spine,
Be aware of your chin and your jaw,
And your lower lip and your upper lip,
Your tongue,
Your lower teeth,
Your upper teeth,
Your nose,
Your nostrils,
The bridge of your nose,
Your cheeks,
The cheekbones,
The temples,
The ears,
The eyes,
Your eyelids,
Your eye sockets,
Your eyelashes,
Your eyebrows,
And the center between your eyebrows.
Be aware of the crown of your head,
Be aware of the back of your head,
Be aware of your whole body,
Be aware of your whole body,
Be aware of your whole body.
Feel the earth rise to hold you,
Release more of your weight into the earth,
Trust the earth with your physical body,
Trust the earth with your physical body.
Now start directing the breath from the tailbone to the sacrum through your lumbar spine,
Through your thoracic spine and cervical spine,
Through your throat,
Through the space between the eyebrows and through the crown of the head,
And directly exhale from the crown of the head to the space between the eyebrows,
Through the throat,
Cervical spine,
The thoracic spine,
The lumbar spine,
Sacrum,
And the tailbone.
Inhale through the tailbone,
The navel,
Solar plexus,
Heart center,
Throat center,
Space between the eyebrows center,
Crown of the head,
Exhale crown of the head,
Space between the eyebrows center,
Throat center,
Heart center,
Solar plexus,
Navel,
Tailbone.
Inhale upward through the spine,
Exhale downward through the spine.
As you focus on your inhale and exhale,
As you cross energetically through your chakras,
Upward and downward.
This is a perfect opportunity to set an intention for your practice.
Set your intention for a new moon,
A new beginning,
And you start the things.
Plant your intention to yourself several times,
And then plant your intention at any of those centers,
The tailbone,
The navel,
Solar plexus,
The heart,
The throat,
Center of the eyebrows,
Crown of the head.
And with your next exhale downward,
When you complete that exhale,
Simply release all effort.
Don't think about anything,
Not the breath,
Not the intention,
Not yoga nidra,
Nothing.
And without making any effort,
Without changing anything about where you are and what you're doing,
Direct your attention to the perineum again,
The base of your spine,
The tailbone,
Home of your base chakra,
Muladhara.
The element of this chakra is earth,
To feel grounded,
To feel balanced.
All your physical needs are met.
There's nothing that you need.
You're safe.
The bhij mantra for muladhara is lung.
As I repeat the mantra,
You're welcome to repeat it with me.
You're welcome to feel it in your body,
Especially that part of your body,
The base of your spine.
And then I'll be quiet for a few seconds to allow the body to vibrate with that mantra.
I'll be quiet for a few seconds.
Love,
Love,
Love,
Love,
Love,
Love.
Love,
Love,
Love,
Love,
Love.
Now direct your attention to the space between your tailbone and your navel.
Home of your sacral chakra,
Your second chakra,
Swadhisthana.
The element of this chakra is water.
The bhij mantra for this chakra is vam.
Vam.

Now direct your attention to this side.
Now direct your attention to the space between your navel and your diaphragm.
Direct your attention to the solar plexus,
Home of your third chakra,
Manipura.
The moment of this chakra is fire and the beige is Ram.

The beach mantra of Vishuddha is hum.

.
Ham Ham Ham Ham Ham Ham Ham Ham Ham Ham.

Now direct your attention to the space between the eyebrows,
Home of your Ajna chakra.
The element of the Ajna chakra is consciousness and the Vij mantra is AUM.
AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM OM OM OM OM OM OM OM OM OM OM the the the the the the the And direct your attention to the crown of the head.
Home of Sahasra,
Your crown chakra.
The element of this chakra is enlightenment.
And the beige is silence.
I will chant one Aum.
And you will meditate to the silence after Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.

And as you have raised your vibration,
As you have journeyed upward from the physical chakras all the way up to your Sahasrara,
Feel all the elements in your body.
Remind yourself of your intention.
Invite the intention to repeat itself in your subconscious.
Let it move forward from the subconscious to the unconscious to the conscious.
Feel your intention in your body.
Now we will journey down from the crown of the head,
From Sahasrara,
From enlightenment,
From Aum,
To the space between the eyebrows,
Ajna chakra,
Consciousness,
Aum,
To Vishuddha at your throat center,
The home of your truth,
The home of your voice.
Aum.
Down to your heart center,
Anahata.
Love.
Be love.
Be love.
Aum.
To the solar plexus,
Manipura,
Aum.
Feel the purification of the fire within.
Release anything you can release here,
Anything you don't need,
Let it go.
And down to Swadhisthana,
Aum.
Feel the fluidity and the clarity of water.
Feel the flexibility of water.
Down to the base of your spine,

Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
Aum.
And now release that intention.
Let your intention dissipate in any of the elements within.
Choose whether to plant your intention in the earth,
Whether to let it dissipate in the water,
Whether to burn it and purify it in the fire,
Whether to spread it in the air,
Whether to send it in the ether,
Whether to plant it in your consciousness,
Whether you know the truth.
In this case,
You release it in your enlightenment.
I will close our practice by chanting the Shanti Mantra.
Aum,
Sahana Vadu.
Sahana Munaktu.
Sahavir Yanka Ravavai.
Tejasvina Vadita Mastumavidvi Shavai.
Aum Shanti Shanti Shanti.
Namaste.
