You can lie down on your back or on your side or on your belly or you can sit in meditation for this practice.

You can also sit against a wall or your bed or your couch in which case you want your spine to be supported but not the head.

The head needs to hang on top of your spine.

In whatever position you chose,

Allow yourself to be fully aware of your body.

Be fully aware of the space around you.

Feel the earth underneath you,

Supporting you,

Hugging you,

Holding you.

Feel every point of contact between your body and the earth and see if you can release that just a little bit more.

See if you can merge with the earth,

Feeling its strength,

Feeling its balance.

We'll go through your body point by point,

Something that we call the full body awareness.

It's a practice of directing your awareness,

Directing your consciousness towards energetic points in your body.

So be aware of the tips of your toes.

Be aware of the soles of your feet.

Be aware of the tops of the feet,

The ankles,

The shins,

The calf muscles.

Be aware of your knees,

Kneecaps and the space behind your knees.

Be aware of your thighs,

Your hips,

Your groin,

The tailbone,

The sacrum.

Be aware of the inside of your legs and the outside of the legs.

Be aware of the back side of your legs and the front side of the legs and release all tension in the legs,

The feet,

The toes,

The thighs,

The hips.

Find stillness and melt into the stillness.

Now be aware of your abdomen,

Your navel,

Your solar plexus.

Be aware of your rib cage,

Your chest,

Your right breast and your left breast.

And be aware of the space right behind your sternum,

The size of your fist,

Home of your higher self,

The capital S self.

And be aware of your throat,

Home of your truth,

Home of your voice.

Be aware of your shoulders,

Your armpits,

Your upper arms,

Your elbows,

Your forearms,

Your wrists,

Your hands.

Be aware of the palms of your hands,

The tops of the hands,

The fingers,

Finger bones,

The finger joints,

The finger pads,

The fingertips,

The fingernails.

Be aware of the inside of your arms and the outside of your arms.

And release your hands,

Your fingers,

Your wrists,

Your forearms,

Your elbows,

Your upper arms,

Your shoulders,

Your armpits,

Allow them to melt into the earth.

Melt your whole torso into the earth.

And be aware of your facial muscles.

And gently start releasing those muscles as if you're removing one layer after the other.

Get deeper into your own self.

Be aware of your jaw and your chin,

Your lower lip and your upper lip,

Your teeth,

Your tongue.

Be aware of your ears,

Your earlobes and the soft space behind your ears.

Be aware of your cheeks and your cheekbones.

Be aware of your nose,

Your nostrils.

Be aware of your nasal cavity.

Be aware of your eyes and your eyelids.

And feel your eyes get heavier and heavier as they melt into the earth.

Be aware of your eyebrows and the center between your eyebrows,

Home of your consciousness,

Your awareness.

And be aware of the crown of your head.

Be aware of your whole scalp.

And feel that the head is melting into the earth at that one point of contact between the back of your head and the earth.

If you're seated,

Feel your bindu,

That point at the back of your head.

Imagine drawing a triangle between the back of the head,

The space between the eyebrows and the crown of the head.

And now be aware of the whole body,

Front,

Back,

The right side,

The left side.

Feel that the body is getting really,

Really heavy.

You can't even move it anymore.

But also feel your body become light as it merges with the air surrounding it.

You're feeling both heavy and light at the same time.

And you're not favoring one over the other,

Which brings you to neutrality.

You feel as though your body is hovering in space,

Totally supported,

Totally hugged by both the air and the earth.

And now direct your attention from the crown of the head to the space between the eyebrows,

To the back of the head,

To the throat,

To your heart center.

Keep your attention on your heart center as you take a peek inside your own heart.

Keep your awareness here.

Breathe in and out,

In and out.

Feel the expansion,

Feel the shrinking as you keep your attention at your anahata chakra,

Your heart chakra.

Repeat to yourself the mantra,

Yam.

This is your seed mantra for your heart.

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam.

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam.

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam.

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam.

Keep repeating the mantra to yourself.

You might repeat it out loud.

You might repeat it quietly between your lips.

Or you might repeat it only in your mind,

Hearing it as if it's being played back to you.

As you repeat your mantra,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam,

Yam.

Focus your attention at the base of your spine,

Your muladhara chakra.

And allow the body to either literally or only in your mind,

Allow the body to kind of move around this one point at the base of your spine.

Feel how your whole torso is hanging on this one point of energy.

The bij mantra,

The seed mantra for muladhara is lam.

So you can try to play that out in your mind instead of your anahata bij mantra.

So this one will sound like lam,

Lam,

Lam,

Lam,

Lam,

Lam,

Lam.

Lam,

Lam,

Lam,

Lam,

Lam,

Lam,

Lam.

And now move your attention just about an inch above your muladhara chakra,

The base of the spine.

Move to a space between the base of the spine and the navel.

Focus your attention to this chakra,

Svadhisthana chakra.

The bij mantra for svadhisthana is vam.

So you might hear something like vam,

Vam,

Vam,

Vam,

Vam,

Vam,

Vam.

Vam,

Vam,

Vam,

Vam,

Vam.

And now direct your attention about an inch higher than that,

Right above the navel,

Around the solar plexus.

This is your manipura chakra.

The bij mantra for manipura is ram.

Ram,

Ram,

Ram,

Ram,

Ram,

Ram,

Ram.

Now direct your attention again to your heart center,

Your anahata.

Yum,

Yum,

Yum,

Yum,

Yum,

Yum,

Yum,

Yum,

Yum,

And now direct your attention to your throat.

The Bij mantra of your throat chakra,

Vishuddha,

Is Hum.

Hum,

Hum,

Hum,

Hum,

Hum,

Hum,

Hum,

Hum.

Hum,

Hum,

Hum,

Hum,

Hum,

Hum,

Hum.

Now direct your attention to the space between the eyebrows,

Your Ajna chakra,

And the Bij mantra for Ajna is Aum.

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum.

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum.

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum,

Aum.

And now draw your attention to the crown of the head,

Your Sahasrara chakra.

This is the chakra of enlightenment.

This is the crown center.

The Bij for this chakra is Silence,

The silence after Aum.

So I'll chant one Aum,

And then we'll sit in silence.

But before I do that,

I want you to draw a line.

I want you to imagine the line that links all those chakras together,

Starting at the base of the spine,

To the navel,

To the solar plexus,

To the heart center,

To the throat,

The space between the eyebrows,

The crown of the head.

So you can imagine one line as I chant Aum,

Rising from the base of the spine all the way up to the crown of the head,

And then let the silence be what resonates inside your mind.

Aum.

Silence.

So you want to come to this place of total silence,

Inward,

On the outside,

On the surface,

You'll hear noises,

You'll hear sounds.

You should feel pretty unattached to any of them.

You should feel pretty open,

Pretty balanced.

You should feel grounded.

You might even be able to observe your own body as it lies down or as it sits in meditation.

You should feel that you are not your senses.

You are not the physical body.

You are not your emotions.

You are not your thoughts.

You should feel that you are pure consciousness.

You should feel that you are one with everything around you.

Silence.

Aum.

Silence.

Aum.

Silence.

Shivoham.

Silence.

Aum.

Silence.

And very gently start returning to the physical space.

Return to your physical breath.

Take a deep inhale through the nostrils,

Fill up your whole body,

Exhale through the nostrils or through the mouth,

Just let it all go.

And reintroduce movement to your body.

Squeeze your hands,

Squeeze your toes,

Rotate your ankles,

Your wrists,

Stretch your arms overhead,

Stretch your legs,

Hug your knees to your chest,

Rock side to side if you are lying down on the floor.

If you are seated,

Just squeeze your knees to your chest,

Round your back,

Tuck your chin in,

Feel that rounding,

Feel that the body is waking up.

If you are on the floor,

If you are lying down,

Roll over to one side and come up to your seat.

If you are seated in meditation,

Simply release your legs or keep them crossed or in any position that you are in.

We will close our practice by chanting Aum Shanti Shanti Shanti,

Aum Peace Peace Peace Hari Aum.

Everything is Aum in honor of this wonderful practice we just had together.

You are welcome to chant with me,

You are welcome to simply feel the vibration of the mantra.

Inhale for the mantra.

Aum Shanti Shanti Shanti Hari Aum Shri Guru Bhiyo Namaha Hari Aum

This was exactly what I needed this morning. Was feeling very in my headspace and letting things like noises my husband was making really get to me, especially while being stuck inside during the stay at home measure for COVID-19. The visuals and chanting the instructor gave helped me to center myself (and align my chakras). My crankiness is gone and I feel spaciousness in my thoughts and am able to be in the present moment now. Will definitely be using this again and recommend it to others.
