I'm Allison,
Licensed professional counselor,
Meditation guide,
And registered yoga teacher.
And every day I help people just like you.
Soften their nervous systems.
And reconnect with the versions of themselves that feels grounded,
Authentic,
And whole.
And today.
We're going to answer the question.
What is therapy?
A lot of people imagine therapy as a space where you come in a room and you sit in front of this professional,
You pour out all your problems,
And then they give you this great advice about how to fix yourself.
But a lot of people find therapy is a little bit different.
Instead,
Therapy is a space where we become curious about our thoughts,
Our emotions,
Our core beliefs,
Our behaviors.
We ask questions like,
Why did I react this way?
What's going on with that pattern I'm noticing?
And even what is this feeling trying to tell me that maybe I've just not been getting?
So therapy isn't about being fixed because you're not broken.
Rather,
Therapy is about understanding yourself with compassion.
And greater awareness.
And as that understanding grows,
Naturally changes start to occur.
And we learn how to partner with our nervous system,
Help it calm down,
Regulate,
Which you will like,
I promise.
And we also learn how to care for the hurt parts of ourselves.
Because those hurt parts,
They're not all of you.
They're just pieces.
When we do this,
We start to create a life that feels more aligned with our values.
That's why if you've ever heard this sort of phrase before,
This is what it's talking about.
Therapy is a journey of coming home to yourself.
Home to that true self within.
And while that journey isn't always easy,
It's often not.
In my opinion,
That's one of the most meaningful journeys you'll go on.
