Bookworm's Contemplation Episode 1 Books transforms us,
Lets us time travel and dream an entirely different world for us.
Books have saved countless lives and created deep bonds between humans.
Books do not judge by age,
Gender or backgrounds.
I also believe that for some of us,
Books are meditative prompts.
That is why I will be starting a Bookworm's Contemplation series.
Please find a comfortable seat,
Or if you are out for a walk,
As much as you can,
Walk aimlessly.
Our agendas discourages our free contemplative time.
Today we are guided by Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables.
And here goes.
There's a lot of different Annes in me.
I sometimes think that is why I'm such a troublesome person.
If I was just the one Anne,
It would be even so much more comfortable.
But then,
It wouldn't be half as much interesting.
Of all views of self,
Including yogic philosophy,
This is the most cheerful and optimistic outlook on self for me.
How many times have we lost our tempers,
Only to be bewildered because it is so unlike ourselves?
How many times have we shown generosity without calculating gains and surprised ourselves?
Our emotions show us many faces of who we are.
But especially at times of adversity,
We learn ourselves in the easiest ways.
We humans are truly the most disrupted,
Uncontrolled beings ever to have existed.
Yet,
Who wouldn't want to study us?
We even study ourselves.
Our flaws,
Our darkness,
Ugly parts of us.
All the things we'd like to push down,
We have just as much light,
Generosity,
Kindness and beauty to go with those.
What a paradox humans are.
And we often see this in others.
But why not us?
We tend to be harsh,
Self-criticizing,
Self-hating.
Why do we do that?
Our flaws make us who we are.
Our mistakes are the first step to success.
Despite how many shortcomings you might notice about yourself.
Think of it this way.
You have as much beauty,
Light,
Warmth,
Softness to go with that are precisely the ingredients we need to make us who we are.
Next time,
If you start to notice that you have been criticizing yourself,
Negative talking yourself,
Imagine you are your own best friend.
Would you say those terrible things to your best friend?
You are wired to see the good in your best friend.
In the moments of darkness,
You are wired to lead with the light that you see in your best friend.
Let's be best friends for ourselves.
We are perfect.
If there is one message we cannot ignore from Anne of Green Gables,
Is that in every way possible,
She is perfect,
Which means we are perfect.
Let us sit together.
Take a deep breath in and a long breath out.
Thank you for joining me in today's Bookworms Contemplation.
