Hi,
It's Brit the Valley Bee.
Welcome to Northwest Nights.
I'm so glad that you're here.
Before we arrive at the river,
Take this quiet moment to arrive in your body.
Feel the surface beneath you.
The mattress,
The pillow,
The floor.
Let it carry your full weight.
Notice the back of your head.
Your shoulders.
Your hips.
Your heels.
Nothing to hold up.
Nothing to brace.
If it feels comfortable,
Take one slow breath in through your nose.
And a long,
Easy breath out.
Again,
Inhale gently.
And exhale completely.
One more time.
A deep,
Full breath in.
Hold at your top.
And allow the breath to slowly release.
Let your jaw soften.
Let your tongue rest in your mouth.
Let the muscles around your eyes grow heavy.
You have nowhere else to be right now.
And nothing you need to solve.
Be with this breath.
Be with this body.
And now evening is settling across the Pacific Northwest.
Imagine you are walking along a quiet trail that leads towards a river.
The light is fading into that soft twilight blue.
Not dark yet.
But the day is gently closing now.
Tall evergreens stand along the path.
Their silhouettes stretch calmly into the evening sky.
The air is cool and fresh.
Carrying the faint scent of damp soil,
Cedar and water nearby.
You walk slowly now.
Gravel shifting softly beneath your feet.
Each step is unhurried.
Each step bringing you further from the noise of the day.
Notice your breath again.
Inhale slowly.
Exhale gently.
Your shoulders soften a little more.
Your hands loosen at your sides.
As the path opens,
You begin to hear it.
The river.
Not rushing.
Not roaring.
Just a steady,
Patient current moving across smooth stones.
You step closer to the riverbank.
The water reflects the last fading light of the sky.
Silver and deep blue moving together.
And you find a place to sit along the bank.
Perhaps on a smooth stone.
Or a patch of cool moss.
Feel your body settling again.
Notice the weight of your hips.
The gentle support beneath you.
Your spine rising naturally.
Your breath moves slowly in and out.
And the river continues flowing beside you.
Constant,
Yet unhurried.
There is something about moving water that understands how to carry things without force.
Without struggle.
Just simply movement.
Take a slow inhale.
And as you exhale,
Imagine becoming aware of anything you may still be carrying from the day.
A conversation.
A worry.
A small tension somewhere in your body.
You don't need to push it away.
Just notice it with kindness.
Compassion for yourself.
Because being human means sometimes carrying more than we were meant to.
Look towards the river once again.
See the current moving steadily past.
Imagine placing that small piece of weight onto the water.
Not throwing it.
Not forcing it.
Just offering it.
The river accepts it gently.
And carries it downstream.
Watch it drift further away.
Notice your body again.
Has your forehead softened?
Your jaw?
Your shoulders?
Take another slow breath in.
And an even longer breath out.
Perhaps there is something else that has been resting quietly inside you.
A worry about tomorrow.
Something left unfinished.
Again,
May you offer it to the river.
Let it rest on the surface of the water.
Watch as the current slowly carries it away.
You are not abandoning it.
You are allowing the river to hold it for now.
The sky grows deeper as the twilight sets in.
The first stars appear faintly above the trees.
The air cools slightly against your skin.
The river continues moving,
Stone by stone,
Bend by bend,
Without ever needing to hurry.
Notice your breath once again.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Your body is becoming heavier now.
More supported.
As if the earth beneath you is gently welcoming the weight of your body.
You lean back slightly.
Feeling the ground steady beneath you.
Supported by soil,
Roots,
And stone.
The same earth that holds the forest.
The same earth that holds the mountains.
The river flows beside you.
Endlessly patient.
Carrying leaves,
Small branches,
Tiny reflections of starlight.
Everything moving onwards in its own time.
Nothing clinging.
Nothing stuck.
If another thought drifts through your mind,
Let it follow the river.
Arrive.
And then drift onward.
Your breath grows slower now.
Your eyes are heavier.
The sounds of the river become softer and more distant.
The steady movement of water begins to feel like a lullaby.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Allow your body to soften further into the place where you are resting.
Your legs are heavy.
Your arms relaxed.
Your forehead smooth.
Your jaw unclenched.
There is nothing left to carry tonight.
The river is moving gently through the valley.
The stars are spreading quietly across the sky.
Your body is remembering how to rest.
If sleep begins to come,
You're safe to follow it.
The river will keep flowing.
The night will continue deepening.
And the earth beneath you will keep holding your weight.
Let your breath become soft and effortless now.
Let your body grow warm and heavy.
Let your mind drift like a leaf floating downstream.
There is nothing left to do.
Only rest.
I'm Brit,
And this is the Valley Bee.
Thank you for sharing this quiet with me.
Rest well.
