Welcome to this winter solstice meditation.

As we settle into the quiet of winter,

Today's meditation invites us to explore the theme of stillness.

During this season,

Nature slows down and rests,

Offering us a reminder to do the same.

Stillness doesn't always mean absence of activity.

It can also be an invitation to create space for calmness and reflection.

As we move through this practice,

We'll connect with our bodies,

Notice our mind's activity,

And allow ourselves to gently rest in the present moment.

Take a comfortable seated or lying position,

Making any small adjustments that allow you to feel at ease.

If it feels comfortable,

Close your eyes or soften your gaze.

Begin by drawing attention to your breath.

Notice its natural rhythm.

There's no need to change it.

Just observe the gentle rise and fall of your chest and belly.

Allow yourself to feel the support of the ground beneath you.

Notice any points of contact—your feet,

Your legs,

Your back—anywhere that touches the surface below you.

With each exhale,

Feel yourself settling deeper into your support and into this moment,

Letting go of any tension that you might be carrying.

Now slowly bring your attention to your body,

Scanning from the top of your head down to your feet.

And as you move your awareness through each part of your body,

Notice any areas of tightness,

Tension,

Or discomfort,

And allow yourself to simply observe them without judgment.

And as you notice these places where you may feel tense,

See if you can soften them with your exhale,

Allowing those muscles to relax,

Even if just a little.

Bring special attention to your face,

Your jaw,

And your shoulders—areas where we often hold tension without noticing.

With each exhale,

Imagine these parts of your body releasing tension and softening.

Now that you've settled into your body,

Bring your attention back to your breath.

Notice how in between each inhale and exhale,

There's a moment of stillness—a pause between breaths.

It's subtle,

But it's there.

This micro moment of stillness is a reminder that within each cycle,

There's a space of quiet—a space where nothing is happening,

Yet everything is okay.

Rest your attention here in the natural pause of your breath.

As you sit in this stillness,

Notice if your mind begins to wander.

This is completely okay,

Totally natural,

But if you notice your attention drifting,

Gently guide it back to your breath,

Back to the stillness between each inhale and exhale,

Perhaps even saying the word stillness silently to yourself in that moment of pause.

As we near the end of this practice,

Take a moment.

Stillness isn't the absence of thoughts or sensations,

But a gentle acceptance of whatever arises without the need to react.

Perhaps you feel a sense of calm or maybe even restlessness,

Whatever your feeling is okay.

Can you allow yourself to simply be with it?

Take a few more deep breaths,

Allowing yourself to rest in this space,

Knowing that this sense of stillness is something you can return to whenever you need it.

When you're ready,

Begin to deepen your breath and gently bring movement back into your fingers and your toes.

If your eyes are closed,

Gently blink them open and return to the space around you.

As you move through the rest of your day,

Carry with you the reminder that stillness is always accessible.

Just like nature rests and resets,

You too can find moments of pause no matter how busy or chaotic life feels.

Thank you for practicing stillness with me today.
