Healing Our Gallbladder To Take Action
Our Acupuncture meridians provide answers to critical questions about natural cycles and the body/ mind link. In this guided insight meditation, we connect to our Gallbladder channel. In Chinese medicine, The Gallbladder (our Lizard archetype) is brother to the Liver and represents growth and transformation and the act of leaving behind what you’ve outgrown. Just as a lizard sheds its skin, our Gallbladder teaches us courage, judgement and decision making. It is our sense of purpose, order, self-assertion, optimism and hope in guiding our lives towards our vision and dreams. Part of the wood element this channel is one that helps us seek ways to grow and expand with kindness, foresight and independence. By exploring this ancient wisdom, we can honour our own spirit, tune into our inner Lizard and reset and re-organise our system.
Transcript
In the classics of Chinese medicine,
The gallbladder channel is associated with the ability to make decisions and take action.
He is believed to be responsible for courage,
Initiative and the ability to move forward with confidence.
When our gallbladder channel is balanced and flowing smoothly,
He can help us make clear,
Decisive choices and take risks when necessary.
He is part of our wood element that grows in seasons,
Bursting forth in spring and withdrawing in winter.
Our wood element is cyclical,
Withdraws and reaffirms.
He works to support our life quests,
Our vision,
From his big sister the liver,
And then helps us to burst forth with conviction and right action.
Our wood energy is pulled in two or more directions,
Like a tree stretching to the heavens,
Its branches out and up,
The wind blowing in all directions,
The tree grows up and simultaneously downwards with its roots.
By satisfying all these directions,
Our wood energy can thrive.
To become creative is a truly profound way to free our wood gallbladder energy and let us go deeper on our life's quests.
The third chakra,
Our solar plexus,
Houses our gallbladder.
Its colour is yellow and essence and instinct is our expression in the outside world.
Here is our power centre,
Where energy can be used creatively to manifest our aspirations in the world.
Here is our truest and purest courage and power.
If you have a citrine,
Also known as the stone of success,
And is believed to help with detoxification and cleansing of the body,
Or a blood stone,
A powerful healing stone that is believed to help with detoxification and purification of the body,
Place these on your solar plexus now.
The lizard is our gallbladder channel archetype.
Our lizard teaches us how to ignite the flames of our greatest passions,
All the while showing us how to let go of habits or beliefs that hinder our success.
He arrives to help break a cycle and provide a fresh perspective for us.
So find a quiet place,
Sit or lay down,
Uncross your legs and allow your spine to go soft.
And let's begin with four deep cleansing breaths to supplement our gallbladder qi.
Soften your eyes behind your eyelids or gaze.
Soften your jaw.
Allow your tongue to go loose in the bottom of the palate.
Lower your chin onto your chest and feel the neck elongate up into the back of the skull and feel the weight of that neck soften.
Feel your shoulders drop,
Shoulder blades widen and the top of the spine becoming heavier and softer.
Put your attention on the palms of your hands.
Feel them soften and become heavier.
Put your attention on the soles of your feet.
Feel them soften and become heavier.
Visualise our lizard behind the solar plexus.
See with his eyes.
Note his green iridescent beauty.
Notice how his energy vibrates,
How authentic and connected to nature and the ecosystem he seems.
Visualise him gently and gracefully exiting from your third chakra and coming to rest beside you.
Our lizard is especially powerful if we are facing any blockages.
He reminds us setbacks are only temporary and may have many lessons to offer us.
In health he will always assure us there are exciting opportunities ahead.
Our lizard symbolises adaptability,
Agility and the ability to navigate through challenging situations with ease.
This ancient,
Most resilient reptilian reminds us to move swiftly and with precision in our actions,
Making bold decisions when needed.
He brings a sense of balance and harmony,
Unshakable support and strength and endurance for our body,
Mind and spirit.
Known for his ability to regenerate lost limbs,
He can be seen as a metaphor for the healing powers of our gallbladder channel.
By tapping into the energy of the gallbladder we can experience a sense of renewal and rejuvenation.
So,
Like a powerful oak tree or strong bamboo shoot,
The gallbladder channel runs from the outer edge of the eyes,
Around the ear,
Over the skull and then zigzags down the sides of our body,
Down the outer leg and through to our fourth toe.
Visualise your lizard on this journey.
He will encourage you to be more aware of your innermost thoughts and feelings and intuition as he slowly accompanies you along your gallbladder channel.
He may pause or rest at each point,
Allowing our wood energy to withdraw,
Reconnect and reaffirm and then burst forth with right action and conviction.
Beginning at the outer edge or the canthus of the eyes is gallbladder one,
Orbit bone.
The eye sees so much more than just physically.
We are also always seeing with the mind's eye.
Seeing with the inner eye,
We can see the spirit inherent in all things and evaluate and choose what is right for us.
This starting point strengthens and stabilises our innate clarity of vision.
Just as the bones provide support and foundational strength to the body,
Orbit bone provides unshakable support,
Strength and endurance at the spirit level,
So we feel more secure,
Optimistic and clear in our decisions.
If we now trace the channel from gallbladder 2 at the base of the ear,
Zigzagging up to gallbladder 7 at the top of the ear,
We can imagine the start of the channel as a hook.
These points harmonise anger that tightens the jaw and obscures hearing,
Empowering the virtue of benevolence,
Listening and intuition.
Here this place helps provide perspective on life's conflicts,
Reduced jaw clenching or seething,
Easing mind and tension in the body.
And then gallbladder 2,
Hearing assembly,
Also known as hearing laughter.
It's like hitting the button for joy,
To listen to our heart's intuition and allow any habits of anger to dissipate,
Which we can make us lose contact with our own heart and hearts of the others.
Then we move to gallbladder 8 to 20.
Here is like the rope attached to the hook,
Looping over and around the back of the ear and then back to the forehead and then back again over the head.
A hook and a rope suspending and lifting the skull.
Mind cleared,
Vision improved and the virtue of patience empowered.
These points have some of the most beautiful names,
Upright living,
Receiving spirit and heaven rushing.
All empower living in a way aligned and congruent with our original nature,
Nourishing and strengthening the vision of ourself.
A hook and rope pulling us tall and strong with a clear head ready to receive our gifts.
Pausing now at gallbladder 20,
Wind pond at the base of our skull.
It is helpful to consider the word pond here,
A small body of still water,
Effortlessly reflecting reality as it is.
The effect of wind on a pond causes ripples,
Analogous to turbulent thoughts and emotions,
Which disturb the state of natural stillness,
Quiet,
Peace of mind and our ability to make clear decisions.
This point releases this turbulent wind,
The distractions of thoughts that can sweep us into the endless illusions and stories,
Giving them reality that they do not have.
As the mind is stilled,
These fragmented aspects dissolve and we become whole at peace,
Like a still pond,
Reflecting movement and change as it occurs,
Without attachment,
Frustration or disturbance to our true self.
In fact,
Gallbladder 20,
Wind pond,
A head point,
Gallbladder 21,
Shoulder well,
On the shoulder,
And gallbladder 22,
Armpit abyss,
On the body,
All allude to water in their names,
Progression from a pond to a deep whirlpool or an abyss.
Three key transitions,
Just like from head to shoulder to body,
A transition smoothly moving from heaven to earth.
The acupuncture channel can be compared with a fluorescent light tube.
The activation of the channel does not just activate these single points,
But the entire channel as a holistic vibration.
This activation passes downwards to gallbladder 23 through to gallbladder 30,
Zigzags down the side of our torsos to reach the hip.
The ripples that started at the eye slowly dissolving downwards,
Decades of accumulated stagnation at body,
Mind and spirit level.
One of these body points is gallbladder 24,
Nestled in between the lower ribcage,
Known as sun and moon.
The sun is the vision,
Our illuminations that bring things into the world,
Opened by the orifice and senses.
The moon is the quality of the light at night that blends all things into one.
Our inner illumination is ignited as we shut off our senses to now look within.
We move now to gallbladder 30 on the hip,
Jumping circle.
This inner illumination now clears the path as it passes through this major joint.
It is frequently the embodiment of a limited perspective that allows us to see only one side of a given issue.
So any pain,
Tension or stiffness can be released here and now.
Moving now to gallbladder 31 and 33 which are around the top of the knee and the bottom of the knee.
Joints,
Knees and hips in this case are the articulations where we literally branch out,
Step out in life.
How we regulate our growth to move around obstacles we face.
Like giant knots in the tree,
Our joints can become disfigured and dysfunctional,
Congruent with our failure to smoothly implement our plans in the world.
Freeing and nourishing the flow now enables smooth steps forward,
Sideways,
Backwards and upwards.
Finally we transition through our command points on the channel.
Our lizard enlivened and nourished.
Our reptilian brains awakened and transformation and change receptors ignited.
Just as our lizard sheds their skin and regrows its tail as if we are reborn.
Just below the side of the knee gallbladder 34 yang mound spring provides stability and nourishment to our wood element.
Essential for the body's free and easy movement without pain or obstruction.
Halfway down the side of the leg standing side-by-side our gallbladder 35 yang crossing and gallbladder 36 outer mound.
Invigorating the mind,
Clearing and stimulating thoughts,
Bringing clarity and a fresh perspective here.
A hand's width up from the ankle is a junction point.
A sister to the liver.
Gallbladder 37 bright and clear.
This point embodies and harmonizes the relationships between our inner and outer bright and clear visions.
In order to see our vision and decide wisely we need light and brightness.
We need clarity,
A mind and spirit free of distractions and confusions.
When the way is clear it is suddenly obvious when the next indicated steps should happen.
Gallbladder 38 yang support is a fire point four finger widths up from the outer edge of the ankle.
This place quells our inner fire,
Harmonizes both resignation and or excessive striving and encourages and motivates forward movement.
The yang aspect of the point implies upward and forward action.
It is the nature of wood to be assertive,
Determined and forceful.
The warmth of fire at this point awakens,
Supports and encourages this expression in us all.
Because after all plans and decisions are of relatively little use if they are never put into action.
Three finger widths up from the outer side of the ankle is gallbladder 39 hanging cup.
All three yang meridians of the leg,
Gallbladder,
The stomach and the bladder are considered to meet here giving emphasis to support the bones in the leg and their correct movement also known as our sea of marrow.
Marrow is deep-seated and precious both for the nourishment of the bones and also our brain.
This hanging cup receives input and energy from any direction and source,
Sees and evaluates it with clarity and makes an appropriate decision to take steps forward based upon the reality of a situation rather than any preconceived fixed idea.
Gallbladder 40 just below the ankle is wilderness mound.
This point brings just the right amount of energy from deep within to strengthen,
Harmonise and balance.
Here our lizard pauses as if he is warming himself on top of that mound.
He elevates us to a higher level to gain perspective and greater clarity and from on top of the security of this mound we can once again see and regain our path,
Get on track and find our way home.
Gallbladder 41,
Foot above tiers or perhaps near to tiers,
Is on the top of the foot halfway towards the fourth toe.
It is our wood point on our wood channel.
An especially strong and forceful burst of energy empowers the acknowledgement and expression of frustration and anger so tears can be released and stagnant emotions resolved.
This place clears away our old,
Dead debris and broken branches to make way for our new beginnings,
Our vision.
Gallbladder 42,
Earth five meetings,
Is a place at the top of the foot just at the knuckle joint of the little and fourth toe.
Found where the five toes meet the earth.
Toes,
Like roots,
Bind us to the earth providing a strong foundation to empower flexible growth,
Convergence and influence,
Stability of a solid centre,
Our own earth,
Through all life's transitions.
This is where we connect deeply with Mother Earth and feel her supporting and nourishing our own roots.
Gallbladder 43,
Valiant stream,
Is at the base of that fourth toe.
Our water point to sustain our wood growth and to empower our ability to flow with grace around all life's obstacles.
And now,
Lastly,
We rest at gallbladder 44,
Foot whole yin,
On the edge of the toenail on the fourth toe.
Our newly renewed energy exits the gallbladder channel to join his sister,
The liver channel here.
As we step into our vision,
Our sensory orifices open and help us to let go of what is not essential,
Discern what is precious,
And this in turn empowers our strong,
Balanced growth.
Now smile the length of your gallbladder channel.
Thank your lizard spirit and remember he reminds us we have the power to regenerate anything that we feel that we may have lost.
Remember to dream and connect to his healing and medicine every day.

Absolutely incredible meditation on this channel, I’ll be listening to your entire collection. I was an acupuncture student for years, but left school due to worsening chronic illness. I miss the medicine, and recently had a GB issue come to light. The themes of the GB make so much sense with everything I’m facing- no ability to have dreams or vision, or to take action, just getting through each day while trying to trust that I’m healing, and doing everything I can to support that healing. So of course my GB would be affected. Grateful for your clear synthesis of the qualities and themes of the channels!! Thank you. 🙂
